Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Yes it's true that I have unlimited access to my Mom's Miata. Next level up is my Step Dad's Prius, which is nice on gas. And then they have .... chuckah ... chukah ... Oh yeah ... just purchased, rare BMW, M Roadster. They have not been out of town yet since they bought it ... but I am a way better driver than either of them. Lawsuit settled. It's safe to say I put some auto parts on my credit card when I was restoring the Merc. I actually stopped working on the car in case I needed to have some kind of appraisal. It's worth, about as much as the M Roadster and has a higher ceiling. Moot now. Lawsuit is over, I sent out the settlement check today. It's mine. It's all mine! I can finish it now, and not worry about them taking it from me. I can finish it! This car is gonna be so bad ass. http://www.flickr.com/photos/arizonaclassiccars/4329217237/ That quarterpanel ... I got hundreds of hours in. I took a torch to it. Burned out the old Bondo, rebuilt it where it was rusted and banged that tail light dent in. That's all fixed now. I saved it. The trunk was about to go, but I stopped the rust and reinforced it with fiberglass and covered it with Herculiner. I've put a lot of time into the trunk area. Plan on having a banging stereo. Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Yeah, took me a couple years, but I did it all myself. Had some advice, sure ... still needs blocking and finishing ... but it's all there, Holmes. Maybe look like a lot of Bondo and fiberglass right now ... almost a really nice car. That's a 14 inch wheel actually, in the back. I've only got 2 of those, Cragar SS rims. Unilugs. Gonna use those as fronts and buy some 15's for the back.
SUXBNME 1,363 Posted January 17, 2013 Awesome Not the car necessarily, but the fact that you talk to yourself on your flicker account. Also, ditch the unilugs if you can. Damn, but I hated those focking things back in the day
Chronic Husker 85 Posted January 17, 2013 This car will no longer be yours due to poker sooner than you think. At that point, you should start listening.
Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 You can actually see the original trunk lid, in the background here if you look real close. I went to that place that had the TV Show, Desert Car Kings, and they had a real nice 65 Montclair trunk lid. I told them it was for a Monterey, and they said $175 on the phone and then tried to charge me $300 when I drove up from Tucson. I had to complain like a mutha fugga to get the quoted price. See, the thing is, those old Park Lane's are drilled for trim and they rust out. Montclair and Monterey don't have that trim. They dunno ... suckers. Sold me the nicest trunk lid they had in the lot for like $180. No drill holes, yet. I have all the trim, locks, keys, etc.
Chronic Husker 85 Posted January 17, 2013 When you get this pos restored fully and need $ to pay said gambling debt, I'll buy it. At that point Im going to withhold it from you until you quit acting like a jackass and get a job.
Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Awesome Also, ditch the unilugs if you can. Damn, but I hated those focking things back in the day I can't tell you how long I have been looking for the proper Ford 15 x 6 rims for the back. 14 X 6 unilugs will only be on the front. PIA to change tires without a socket wrench, unless you wanna scrape up yer rims with an old tire iron. I hate unilugs. Just for the front though. I have a set of chrome lug nuts and locks. I even have 4 brand new Cragar SS center caps ... brand new rims, for a pair, delivered ... about $350. I don't have $350.

At that point Im going to withhold it from you until you quit acting like a jackass and get a job. I'm actually thinking ... if I can finish it before this summer and sell it, with brand new paint on it. Prolly be somewhere in the 12 to 15k area. I might just take a trip to Vegas when I sell it. I know better. I would leave like 75 percent at home where I couldn't touch it.
Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Before you say, $15K, yer crazy! Remember: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arizonaclassiccars/5446716685/in/set-72157623491547733 That's an original 428 service block. No found partial vin numbers, external reinforced webbing. 1U marked (correct for Cobra Jet) crankshaft. It's like if a racecar blew up ... they use a service block. Rare and desirable motor. Not original to the car, but instead and upgrade that wasn't available in 1965. Same size, Ford FE big block, came in the car from the factory. Standard FE heads, but you could build that motor into a monster. Trans and driveshaft, also came out of a Q code car. Heavy duty shiat, up until the standard Ford 9 inch. Too bad I still don't have that parts car. Was a 67/68 4 door, just like the Hawaii 5.0 car, but like a golden tan color. Real Q code car. No title though. Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 I haven't played poker in a casino since last year. Technically. The last time I played with friends I won. Friend still owes me like a hundo, actually. NFL betting and cards, I cleaned up. He still hasn't paid me. No juice. Doesn't count. Haven't been playing. Lately. It's not a career for me. It's a hobby. Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Just like the car. I paid $900 for the car. Then I had to ship it, and strip it, and it turned into a lot more work than I expected. I likely would have done better putting my money in a savings account. But for the fact that ... nevermind. I got about, $6500 in it so far. Years of work. I been building it like, if I get stuck with it ... at least I have a bad ass car .. doing it right. if I make 50 cents an hour I worked on it ... that'd be great. If I get stuck with a really sick focking car ... I can live with that too. New top was like $1100. The value of the drivetrain ... I dunno. Maybe $3k. The crankshaft alone is like a $600 item. Fock, the quarterpanel "Park Lane" emblems I have ... $300 easy for the pair. Impossible to find. Nice ones. Don't plan on putting them on the car, partially because they are so valuable and could be easily stolen. I bought a lot of 65 Mercury parts, for about $200 and those badges were included. Sold the beat up ones that came on the car. Think I got like $165 for them. Buyer was thrilled ... no NOS ... no repros ... impossible to find.

Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 I've had, I think, 4 different pairs of Cragar rims. Tried on others. After it was all said and done, I got my 2 front 14 inch unilugs for free. I bought and traded for ... look too small on the back. Need 15's on the back, and tried many sizes. Wont fit the wheel well. Need 15 x 6. No wider, no thinner. Giants Fan 85 Posted January 17, 2013 Career. What's your career? You haven't had a job since Tarhole was here. What, you mean besides working for the biggest ad agencies and publishers in the world in my 20's? Besides having 3 college degrees in design? Besides that past career when I actually made decent money? Yeah ... I dunno. Times have been tough. I'm officially a VP now. Marketing. Company doesn't make any money, but I have equity. Family company. I should consider myself fortunate, but I don't really like African art. Wanna buy some African art? Lotta beads. I'd like to sell it all, one big inventory lot ... close shop, and focus on a handful of clients. Couple things we do, that nobody else does. Lean and mean. Never gonna happen. Mom just got back from the Philippines, and now she's going to the Ivory Coast. She's intrepid, I'll give her that ... but at some point ... she has to stop. Bruce Benedict 0 Posted January 17, 2013 If Mom stops working, how will her POS, pot-head, slacker son survive? I'd pay him just to cruise past my crib in that sweet ride and up my block's hip hop cred. It does bounce up and down like a rap video car, right? Because if not, I've got nothing for you. WhiteWonder 2,235 Posted January 18, 2013 Yes it's true that sometimes I borrow my Mom's Miata when she lets me. Next level up is my Step Dad's Prius, which is nice on gas. And then they have .... chuckah ... chukah ... Oh yeah ... just purchased, old BMW roadster to give the appearance of wealth. They have not been out of town yet since they bought it ...so i have no had a chance to sneak it out for a ride. Lawsuit settled. It's safe to say I put some auto parts on my credit card when I was restoring the Merc. I actually stopped working on the car because i'm a lazy fock. It's worth, not much and will most likely never be finished. Moot now. Lawsuit is over, I sent out the settlement check today. It's mine. It's all mine! I'll probably never finish it This car could have been so bad ass. That quarterpanel ... I got several hours in. I took a torch to it. Burned out the old Bondo, rebuilt it where it was rusted and banged that tail light dent in. That's all fixed now. I saved it like those 9/11 victims. The trunk was about to go, but I stopped the rust and reinforced it with fiberglass and covered it with Herculiner. I've put a lot of time (for me) into the trunk area. Plan on having a banging stereo, but likely never will.
