SUXBNME 1,594 Posted March 27, 2013 I like to eat at nice restaurants. I may have biitched about that focking roach infested curry smelling hell hole I had to stay at in Hartford, CT when I was working there. If that makes me high maintenance... whatever. However I think that place would have repulsed even a low expectation having mother effer such as yourself. Mebbe I'm thinking of your evil twin, OM.

IGotWorms 4,063 Posted March 27, 2013 We don't really charge for luggage by weight since I think airlines generally charge one flat rate per bag within a reasonable limit. I'd lean toward no on charging passengers by weight but I do think CBFs who can't fit into a human sized seat should either have to pay for an upgrade to a bigger seat if its available or be outright declined with a refund at the gate. When I buy a ticket I am paying for a unit of space on that flight. If the CBF's blubber rolls are spilling over into my space he's essentially stealing what I paid for in addition to making me put up with an uncomfortable flight. Yes I've been there. Hate it when some fatty spills over into your seat. Especially when they ask if they can put the armrest up. Fock no! It's my g0ddamn seat you fat fock. IGotWorms 4,063 Posted March 27, 2013 Mebe we should just get gas prices back to where they were a few years ago, then this 'problem' would go away What a genius! Just get gas prices back where they were!!! How come nobody has thought of this yet?? Holy sh!t this guy is focking dumb

penultimatestraw 473 Posted March 27, 2013 Yes. I am weight conscious and I've lost 10 pounds in the past 2 months. However, my sensitivity comes from someone suggesting that the process of getting on a plane gets any harder/more time consuming than it already is. After doing that every single week for about 9 years, you begin to wish death upon yourself. Or you quit working and sit around on your ass for a year because the thought of doing that again makes you wish death upon yourself. What? The only time I fly first class is if I'm going overseas and the company pays for it, which they usually do for overseas flights. Congrats on the weight loss. Agree that flying is already pretty painful, but I think we can eliminate much of the security dog-and-pony show to allow time to adopt a more rational pricing system for tickets. penultimatestraw 473 Posted March 27, 2013 Serious answer: The amount most commerical airlines can carry is FAR above even if the entire cabin is filled with 300 lb CBF. 4 engine planes are designed - and have - run safely with one engine. 2nd: Let's ignore ya know, facts like above: If the engines / lift coefficeint is SO impacted by say 8-9 CBF's, when do you hold the airline responsible for putting 130 seats on a plane at an average of 145 lbs/body vs. 100 seats on a plane at a slightly different average. In short, no. It's a stupid idea. However, if you take up more than one seat, you should pay for two in principle. In principle meaning: If the seat only accomodates people with a BMI of the Olsen Twins - you lose. Is weighing luggage a good idea then?

jerryskids 7,085 Posted April 2, 2013 Pay by the Pound: Samoa Air Becomes First Airline to Charge Overweight Passengers More Samoa Air has become the first airline to start charging customers according to how much they weigh. The company, based in the Samoan capital Apia, is the first to bring in the controversial measure that means overweight passengers pay more for their ticket. A statement from Samoa Air said: "We at Samoa Air are keeping airfares fair, by charging our passengers only for what they weigh. "You are the master of your air 'fair', you decide how much (or little) your ticket will cost. No more exorbitant excess baggage fees or being charged for baggage you may not carry. Your weight plus your baggage items, is what you pay for. Simple." When booking online, customers are asked to enter their details, including the estimated weight of passengers and their baggage, and the fare is then calculated accordingly. Customers prepay the estimated cost and the airline then weighs them at the airport, to ensure they have paid the correct amount. Samoa Air chief executive Chris Langton said paying by weight is the fairest way to calculate fares. He told ABC radio: "People have always travelled on the basis of their seat but as many airline operators, know airlines don't run on seats - they run on weight. "The smaller the aircraft you are in, the less variance you can accept in terms of the difference in weight between passengers. "We have worked out a figure per kilo. This is the fairest way of you travelling with your family or yourself. You can put your baggage on, there are no separate fees because of excess baggage - a kilo is a kilo is a kilo. "The people that have been most pleasantly surprised are families because we don't charge on the seat requirement, even though a child is required to have a seat - we just weigh them. "So a family of maybe two adults and a couple of mid-sized kids and younger children can travel for considerably less than what they were being charged before." Rates per kilo for fares vary according to how long the flight is. "There is no doubt in my mind that this is the concept of the future. We always weigh the mass that is on an aircraft," Langton said. "And that always has to pay for the transportation; it doesn't matter whether you are carrying freight or people. " Samoa Air's fare policy follows comments made by Norwegian professor Bharat Bhatta, who said overweight passengers should be charged more because of the extra fuel needed to transport them to their destination. IGotWorms 4,063 Posted April 2, 2013 Pay by the Pound: Samoa Air Becomes First Airline to Charge Overweight Passengers More My link Interesting. Thanks for posting. It's nice that a family with small children could save a lot of money. I hadn't thought about that before. I'm curious what the fare difference would be for a "normal" man. Let's say 200 lbs to give some leeway for tall or muscular dudes. Would they be paying more or about the same?
