Drafting an injured guy in a keeper league to keep for next season. Common or dirty pool?

Recommended Posts

So pretty much this was just the first year the commish has done keeper, so it's a bit wonky. The commish also drafted Deangelo Williams in rnd 3 so...First time for me too so I had no idea what it was supposed to look like, hence this thread.

Yeah he isn't supposed to draft swill in the third. Horrible pick.

Still sounds cry babyish.

Well it promotes people to look ahead more and plan their keepers in the draft better. Instead of just assuming the most likely keeper is one of the guys drafted in the 1st two rounds.

When someone is keeping Antonio Brown at face value in the 1st, I am keeping David Johnson in the 15th or whatever round it was. I planned it that way. So I would be rewarded for being better at planning and scouting, along with execution to make sure I got that player.

If someone else wants that good of value out of their keeper then they should get better at fball. Pretty simple.

I'll put the B.S. card on your claim to "planning" anything. You don't even know what round it was.. that is your so called "diligence"?

This method of determining keepers comes down to picking your best players drafted late... It is a result of flukiness - nothing else. Why bother having keepers at all?

This thread is about drafting guys who are on IR for the year so that next year they're good values... Really? that is some big strategy?

We also had the misguided "you can only keep drafted players" because these people wrapped themselves around the axle with a stupid rule.

In my system, You have Johnson, I have Gurley... someone else has Antonio Brown and another guy has Beckham. Just like the NFL, let's draft and get on with the season. There is no correlation between these players values and their original draft slot.

I drafted Jordy in 14th round last year so this year I can keep him with my 2016 14th round pick.

So I've run a keeper league since 2000 and the way we do it is you can protect up to 3 players but the keepers are your 1st through 3rd round picks, so they don't correlate with the round you drafted them in. We have one IR spot in our league and for some reason the Le'Veon Bell owner dropped him last season for some unknown reason so I grabbed him and put him in my IR spot. So now I'll be keeping him in 2016.

So say you drafted David Johnson in the 14th round in 2015 - then you keep him in the 14th in 2016. So where do you draft him in 2017, 2018, etc? Just curious if the "keep them in the round you drafted them" is pretty common and the way my league does it is goofy? I just like it because it's easier to keep track of and brings in a lot of strategy in regards to who other owners are keeping and how to get the touted rookies like Gurley last year and Zeke this year. Last year someone didn't protect any players to guarantee he'd get Gurley.

The reasons I don't remember exactly what round

It's a large draft with 18 rounds since we have IDP. So I dont remember which round exactly.

We are not keeping anyone for this year because we are transitioning from snake to auction. Thus there is no reason for me to remember exactly when I drafted Djohns.

If you paid attention to anything that was said about Djohns last year I was one of his biggest supporters. I drafted him in literally every league but one dynasty. The two redraft/keeper leagues were at the end of the draft. I planned it that way because I knew I could get him there.

In our league the old rules were, keep one player from any round. Keep a second player from the 10th round or later. Soooo if I see a player who might not be useful immediately thus suppressing his value, I would target him as late as I thought possible to maximize his value.

Yes I did this on purpose. The fact that you can't wrap your brain around purposefully using this strategy is amusing me very much. I got a few chuckles out of reading your absolute confusion :)
