The Departed is great the way it is. Love Scorsese directed movies. Fast paced and not one scene last to long. I think The Departed got sucked into that “must have a huge twist” theme that was going on in every movie 2004ish-2012ish, but still a great movie. 

If you like Scorsese you all should check out Mean Streets

horribly paced ... the scenes with the shrink were abysmal. DiCaprio ruined both this and GONY - not to mention "The Basketball Diaries" ... Hermoine Gingold would've been a more convincing tough guy/street urchin. 

Scorsese has lost a ton off his fastball since "Goodfellas" - most notably falling in love with that twit Leo.
