The department said “a gator is believed to be involved in the death,” though the medical examiner had yet to determine the cause of death. The victim was identified Wednesday as Sean Thomas McGuinness, 47. Police believed McGuinness had entered the lake during nighttime hours, as his body did not appear to have been in the lake for a long period when a person walking their dog discovered it along the shoreline at about 8 a.m. Tuesday. McGuinness was a “transient” person who made a living by selling the Frisbees to people who played disc golf at a course that runs parallel to the lake, and “he died as a result of an alligator attack,” Paul Cozzie, director of Parks and Conservation Resources in Pinellas County, said in a telephone interview. The man, now identified as 47-year-old Sean McGuinness, was reportedly retrieving lost disc golf discs in a body of water that is adjacent to a disc golf course. WFLA News Channel 8 is reporting that McGuiness was repeatedly warned numerous times to stay out of the water at the course. Avoid dirty water, don't swim at night, and take a good long look before walking near shoreline.... Those practices have kept Floridians safe for 70+ years. When you shine that light on them, all you see is two red dots. Same on land. Not scared of them, they’re stoopid. It’s the mocisons that scre me.
