Crazy but Lawrence over Allen

Recommended Posts

Last year when the Bills faced the Jets, the scores were 20-17 Jets win and 20 -12 Bills win.

Both teams have improved their defenses from last year, so I am thinking of starting Trevor Lawrence over Allen.

Thoughts?

I think you have a very good problem.  I would go either way.

I know Lawrence is a stud in waiting.  but hes not quite there (though that could change this year I admit).

and Allen has proven himself to be more or less matchup proof.    if you invested the kind of draft capital you did to get this stud QB you dont sit him on the bench.

Play your stud.  (Allen)  unless hes hurt you play him.

Agree, but in 2 games last year Allen threw for about 350 yards 1 TD and 2 Int total.  If not for his running making up for his points, he would have not be a QB1 at all against the Jets and I am not sure he will be able to run against them the same as he did last year.

you could probably make this argument about any running QB1 out there.

but hes pretty reliable as a QB1.   possibly the best fantasy QB in the NFL this year.    for me its him, Mahomes, or Herbert.   none of these guys should be benched for any reason other than injury.    and I"m not seeing an injury that would prevent him from running or throwing.

Not crazy at all. The Jets secondary would drive anyone nuts. The only downside in using Lawrence is they jump out early and run the entire second half.

Well, went with Allen over Lawrence and ended up losing week 1 by 5.9 pts.  Lawrence outscored Allen by 8.75 pts.
-8 focking pts for 4 turnovers

Should have stuck with my gut.

sorry man.

I could not have predicted this meltdown from a guy who has historically been very consistent.

Hopefully a lesson learned.  It's your team - you should always own your decisions.  This board can be useful in determining if your gut is way out in left field, but couple of the responses did indicate that going with Lawrence wasn't a crazy idea.

yeah, but sometimes on any given sunday anything can (and does) happen.

if these same teams were to play tomorrow, I'd still put my money on Josh Allen.

the number of actual bad games over the last 2 years you can count on one hand and probably wont even use up all your fingers.    There is a reason hes a top 2 fantasy football QB.    He had a bad game.   and I apologize for the way it turned out but I dont apologize for the prediction.  I think it was based on sound judgement.   I think its one of those cases where the fantasy gods decided to punish you and there was not a thing you could do to change it.

I fully agree Lawrence is a good player, but for me it was never about that.   Josh Allen has been THAT good.   just not yesterday.....  for whatever reason.

For the record, I'm not faulting you for your advice.  It was sound, but as you say anything can happen so why not go with what your gut is telling you once in a while (especially when it's not totally insane).  Sure, that could have turned out badly but the OP had done his homework and noted Allen's previous recent struggles against a Jets D that is arguably even better this year.

well, the jets did a great job of figuring out how to contain Allen and stop him from running with the ball.   whenever it looked like he was gonna break the containment someone stepped up to stop that from happening or to limit the gain.

other than a couple bad passes (or great plays on D) Allen looked like he was able to move the ball fairly well for most of the game.    it was the INT's that killed his value and killed the drives.

but arguably that happens a lot when a top QB has a bad game.

but the defense did do a good job of keeping his game fairly one dimensional.   they kept him in the pocket and sacked him a few times to keep him a bit off balance.

It was a pretty impressive performance.

I do think the Jets D may be a good candidate for pickup in fantasy if they are not already owned by someone.   They looked pretty good
