Mike Honcho 5,096 Posted November 6, 2023 Howdy all. Got back visiting Brother and Mother in Florida. I had a great time, Halloween parties, hikes with alligators and great weather. Highlight had to be snorkeling in crystal clear water during slack tide when I saw a big sea turtle. At the same time my brother found himself in a school of tarpon that he estimated weighed about 200 pounds each. Then we went to the reefs and saw all the tiny colorful fish around the reefs, including a few larger parrot fish that were just beautiful. On the way out it didn't look like it was going to happen, as we saw just dozens and dozens of man-o'war, but on the downwind side of the island, really didn't see any. Great week, lots of fun. On this day in 2005 "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", the 4th film based on the books by J. K. Rowling, premieres in London. Goes on to become most successful film of the year, earning almost US$ 900 million. --- The only won that someone dragged me to see in the theater. Every geek, have a great week.

The path at one point was probably 15 feet wide, one side a think grove of trees and the other side a pond. Right up against the pond, sunning himself was a 10 footer. We chose to skirt past it, rather than turn around and walk back 2 miles, since going forward was only another half mile to the end of the path. I took a selfie with the gator over my shoulder as I went by...more evidence I might not be the sharpest crayon in the pack.

And, to be clear, had you been eaten by an alligator while trying to take a selfie with it I believe that all of us here would have congratulated the alligator! I mean, we can't reward stupidity, can we? I hope you understand.

If it did happen, my greatest regret would be that I wouldn't get to read the thread/story about the Florida Man who got eaten by a gator taking a selfie.
