 Alice In Chains song “Rooster” is about one of the band members father who died in the Vietnam war. The Rooster was a nickname for the soldiers that carried the communication devices. Pretty powerful song when you understand the origin of the song.

Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day is about Billie Joe Armstrong's dad dying of throat cancer on a day early in September.  I've mentioned it here before in another thread.  Having had throat cancer myself, that hit close to home.

 I didn’t know that. I love that song. When the Super Dome reopened for that first MNF game, they and U2 played together. Beyond incredible. They played that song together and they wrote this…I cried
