Best Prize You Got From A Box Of Cereal Growing Up

Recommended Posts

I can't remember which cereal but they had a 45 record of the Archies singing Sugar Sugar manufactured into the cereal box.  You had to cut it out with scissors.  It was constructed of cardboard and wax.  It did play, and more than once.

Captain Crunch would send you stuff if you clipped  their box tops and sent them in to Battlecreek Michigan.  My brotheer sent away for a treasure chest with a real lock.  On the ceral box it looked to be made of wood and metal and to be about the size of a foot locker.  When it came it was made of plastic.  It was big enough to hold 4 by 6 index cards.  It did, however, have a lock and key. which did sort of work.

Sugar Frosted Flakes sent me a beach towel featuring Tony the Tiger when I sent in box tops.

Inside the cereal boxes themselves, i don't remember a single item though my brothers and I would fight over getting them, whatever they were.

Nothing.

We were told that we could get the prize when we finished all our cereal.  I would do just that, eat the cereal and hope that when I pour it into the bowl I would get a prize. My brother through would sneak into the kitchen and dig through every box and get every prize.

I remember that 45. It was either Sugar Pops or Sugar Smacks cereal.

I'm still waiting for my Jean Lafoote football I ordered in 1971 with a bunch of Captain Crunch box tops.

It was an ongoing battle in our house as well.

I came home one night after tripping and drinking and ate a bowl of cereal and could swear that morning I found a note that read “tricks are for kids you silly rabbit”. Damn labels.🤨
