Out of curiosity, have you been outside of the tourist cities on HI, the more remote ends of the islands that get no tourist dollars?

Been to all the islands except Lanai. Favorite vacation spot. Got a trip next June to area north of Kona, can’t wait.

Driven all around Big Island and Maui in particular. I didn’t see much difference in the locals there versus some hillbillies in rural parts of rest of the US.

Walk into a bar in some backwoods bar in Idaho. Stink eye coming. These days you might get shot 😂

Regardless Hawaii getting any votes over Iowa, Wyoming, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, is absurd!

I guess I was thinking travel as well.  Things to do, scenery, dining and recreation...

My wife and I have a map of the country with places for pictures of us for every state we visit.  First started dating a little over four years ago and we have 15 states knocked out.  I enjoy the intentionality it brings in getting to see different places in the country.  Obviously our neighboring states (Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas) have been the easiest to get to, and of the eight states bordering Missouri we've now been to all but Oklahoma, which we can also make happen in a 4-hour trip so that'll come soon enough.  The furthest states in our adventures would be Hawaii, California, Florida and Nevada, and there will be some effort to get to those we haven't visited in the Pacific Northwest and Northeast part of the country, but I'm looking forward to it.  States like North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming may or may not come through business travel she'd accompany me on, but otherwise I could see why you might not get as excited by those but I'm sure they still have much to offer.

When I think of why people may or may not want to visit states I'm most familiar with (Missouri, then Kansas) I can see why the allure might not be there.  For Missouri, Branson is kind of overrated in my opinion.  Lake of the Ozarks might be nice if you're not far and can get a lakefront house or condo and boat to rent, but you also might be able to do that a lot closer to where you're from.  Then it's either St. Louis or Kansas City, and while I think both cities have a lot to offer, I also see how it'd be just as easy to choose a different large city that'll cost you about the same to travel to.  I am excited to bring Rusty and TRF here and show them around, because they might not ever choose to come here otherwise.  But the Negro Leagues Museum, WWI museum, College Basketball Experience, dining, sports and other things I know they'll enjoy.

Kansas, kinda meh options in terms of taking several days to vacation, IMO.  Wichita?  Topeka?  There's some cool museum options and stuff throughout the state, but it feels more like a North or South Dakota option to me than what you'd find in Missouri.

:dunno:

You drove all around past Hana on Maui...I doubt that.

Wrong! Driven past Hana around the south side all the way through. Driven the north loop past Kaanapli. Driven around the upcountry area on way to Haleakala.

I’m not pulling in and talking to every local I see and asking them about their experience with the white man…but have felt way more unsafe in numerous places across US.

Very odd people are voting for Hawaii over places like Iowa and Indiana. But this place is filled with unique characters 😂
