Mr. Pinky is about to turn two. I'm hoping it will change, but I doubt it.

We have 6, all community cats that have adopted us, ranging in age from 12 to 2 and 2 are orange and are zoomie experts at 1am

I got mine from a rescue. They had named him Pinky, so I added the Mr. to give him a little dignity.

We've got a lot of fosters right now, with only about a half dozen of them adoptable.

The unadoptable ones include semi-feral, super old, shy or unhealthy.

For example, awhile back we got a call about an old female tortie cat living at a small-town gas station.

The poor thing was sick, skin and bones and eating garbage. We got her fixed up, and she spends most of the day comfortably resting in a cubby hole. She's not mean at all, and I can give her scritches and even pick her up sometimes, but mainly she just quietly lives her life in a back bedroom. She uses the litter box, doesn't scratch up the furniture or make a bunch a noise, so she's no trouble at all.

I tried fostering for a dog rescue org, but ended up adopting any that I fostered. I couldn't let them go. LOL

Fitting that the latest "Gutterboy" thread turned into a cat thread.

Yeah, it's kind of bittersweet when we get them adopted out. We have a kitten that was living at a car-rental place, and she's such a well-rounded cat that will be hard to let go, but it's also rewarding for them to go into a home where they will be the center of attention rather than a member of the colony.

Sandy has to be the center of attention. She can't stand it.  It's drama all day long with you weaklings.

Yeah, I only had a couple, so we got attached quickly. I had one that was old so no one wanted him. He turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever had. What you are doing is a wonderful thing, but obviously it wasn't for me.

We could never foster, we would just keep them sad to say.

One of our community cats got preggo and gave birth under my trailer smoker, we caught the litter (4) and got them inside and turned a extra bedroom into a cat room, kept them for 7 weeks and took them to the Humane Soc., that about killed me.  Then the little sh!t went and got preggo again before we could get her fixed and gave birth in our bedroom closet.  Another litter of 3 for 7 more weeks and another gut wrenching trip to the HS.

Of course once we fixed here she decided this was home, she is the latest to adopt us.

Over the last 10 years we have had 11 adopt us, they just seem to know that showing up on our back patio mean they get a new life.  We've lost 3 to old age and 2 to jacka$$es driving to fast.

One of my favorites is a cat we call Uncle Lionel. This focker was the king tomcat of the neighborhood, beating the crap out of other cats siring countless litters.

We caught some of the kittens and got them adopted. The mom was feral, so we trapped her, got her fixed and put her back.

Then we trapped Lionel, and he was a berserker, built like Mike Tyson in his prime. I've never seen such a muscular cat. We took him to the vet to get fixed, and a tech said he was the meanest damned cat they'd ever seen. The plan was to get him fixed and put him back.

But he transformed bigly after he got fixed. We brought him home, where all the foster kittens immediately took to him. He cuddled with them and gave them baths. Now he's a big, fat couch potato with a resting dopey look on his face. He's got FIV, the feline equivalent of HIV. They get that from deep puncture wounds during brawls, but they can live a long time and are not threat to other cats if they're docile.

Nah, it's a great direction for a Shefoam thread, particularly since I don't see any of his imbecilic comments because he's on ignore.

He hasn't posted in this thread for a bit. I guess it's hard for him to type while holding my pocket.

Ours our indoors only. Years ago, we had a cat that couldn't be kept inside. He'd dart out every chance he got. Finally, we just said focking it and let him go in and out. Sometimes I'd see him way back in the woods behind out house. One day he went out and never came back. I suspect a coyote or bobcat got him, but for all we know, he's lying on some girl's bed in a nearby neighborhood.

As for giving them up, we've brought a lot of joy into people's lives, so it's rewarding. Some love their cats so much that they start Facebook pages for them.

We have a large wooden dial that we put in the back glass sliding door track that allows the back door to stay open enogh for the cats to come and go as they please.  Each night we bring all 6 inside for the night around 9 or 10 and close the slider and then I typically open the slider back up at around 530am so they can come and go while we are at work

I've had everything from Dobermans to Poodles. One of my first when I was a kid was a mix of Basset hound and Beagle. I can't count the times someone would say, "That's the ugliest dog I've ever seen. Can I buy him." LOL. They are all great.

A back room has a doggie door leading to the back porch, and once the weather cools off, I plan to built a cattery so they can go in and out. There are a lot of coyotes in the woods, and my game cam caught a pic of a bobcat, so it's way too dangerous for cats to roam freely outside. The woods are kind of creepy, too. I only go back there in the winter, and even then it feels like I'm being watched. Lots of snakes and poison ivy out there in the warm months.

Our last dog was a Great Pyrenees, and he was such an Eeyore. A new cat would be terrified of him at first but then quickly figured out he was no threat. He'd be on the couch with five cats all snuggled up, and he'd have this look of resignation on his face. I've got a great video of him lumbering through the living room with a kitten attached to his tail and going nuts. Focker shed like a cotton-candy machine, though. He made more of a mess than all the cats combined.

were are in the suberbs so we only have racoons and opossums to worry about, and other cats of course but we have a large large male who kind of rules the roost so other cats don't really bother ours

We have a possum that likes to come up on our front porch, get into kitty-litter bags and pizz on the front-door mat. We call him Pee Pee the Possum. He was chest deep in a box one time, and I reached down and gave him a butt scritch, which he didn't like. The wife and I like to drink coffee on the porch in the morning, and earlier this week there was raccoon hair all over my lounge mattress. Some raccoon just decided to have himself a relaxing evening. Can't say I blame him. It's pretty peaceful out there.
