Official Gavin Newsom Thread

The Republicans gerrymandered 5 new seats in Texas, a deliberate act AGAINST democracy. Newsom in California said “I want to counter this, but I will let the voters of California decide if they want me to.” We did. Overwhelmingly. That’s how democracy works.

Do you even read what you post?

When Trump does it, it's against democracy.

When Greasy Gav does it, it's democracy.

ETA: thanks for confirming that CA dems and their voters have zero integrity.

From Grok at the Twitters:

Comedian Jeff Dye Moves from California to Texas Over Newsom and Wildfire Handling
Last updated Nov 16

Comedian Jeff Dye announced his relocation from California to Texas, expressing fears of Governor Gavin Newsom's leadership and the state's response to the January 2025 wildfires that destroyed thousands of structures in Los Angeles. On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Dye highlighted issues like water shortages and delayed aid, joining a trend of celebrities leaving due to taxes, crime, and disaster management. His GoFundMe for moving expenses faced online backlash, prompting him to delete it and refund donors.

FILMING IN CALIFORNIA as part of our @FilmCalifornia Tax Credit Program.”

Louisiana under its Republican Governor has killed its tax credit program, & it’s gone from the country’s top location for productions to somewhere way down the list. Crazy thing is it was originally an Old Republican idea - tax credits! - it was successful, but then maga killed it. So now California reaps the benefits.

CA trying to get construction going on the first 120 miles of high speed rail between San Fran and LA next year. Trump admin already pulled all the FRA funding of course. No way they help Newsome accomplish something.

Omg are you focking kidding me with that?  Might want to look up the history of the high speed rail in California.  Look up exactly how much we the people have spent over the last 30 focking years on this disaster. And zero has been done. But Trump!!!

AI Overview

+10

Gavin Newsom's "train project" refers to California's high-speed rail system, a project he has publicly supported despite initial skepticism
. The project, which has faced significant cost overruns and delays, is now focused on completing a 171-mile segment in the Central Valley between Merced and Bakersfield. Newsom has secured new funding through federal grants, including a $3.1 billion grant from the Biden administration, and proposed a long-term state funding plan.

Project status and challenges
  • Cost and timeline: The project's estimated costs have risen significantly from the original $45 billion, now ranging from an estimated $88 to $128 billion.
  • Central Valley focus: The initial, operational phase will be a 171-mile track in the Central Valley, with a goal for this segment to be completed by 2032. A statewide, 220-mph electric line connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles is the ultimate goal, though a timeline for completion of the full system is not yet available.
  • Funding:
    • The project is receiving new momentum from a $3.1 billion federal grant from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
    • Newsom has proposed a long-term state funding plan, with a deal struck for approximately $1 billion per year through 2045.
    • Federal funding has been threatened, leading the state to take legal action to fight back against what Governor Newsom calls "politically motivated attacks".

CA is bidding out the first 120 miles of HSR right now. I hope they get it done. The UK and Japan manage to have HSR, why can’t we?

Trump admin cancelled grants for the Hudson Tunnel Project in NY too btw.

Completely oblivious that California has already funded 80 some billion for it and it’s gotten nowhere. But again Trump.  This is a project going on 20+ years. You don’t live here. You don’t really know anything about it

public transportation is a state issue

About $15b has been spent on buying land, civil works, tunnels etc. Not sure where you’re getting the $80b figure from. Estimates for the total cost are $90-$130b and it hasn’t been built yet.

HS2 in the UK cost over $100b. Major infrastructure works are expensive.

meaning its already been allocated our state taxes and gas taxes have been increased to pay for this

I get major infrastructure is expensive, but you are so focused on Trump you cant see the failure of California public transportation (much less the roads) despite having the highest dmv, registration and gas taxes in the nation

This is a train going to nowhere

Bakersfield to Merced, meanwhile a privately funded HSR from LA to Vegas has been stopped multiple times, so spare us, its a money stealing project and always has been so how much do you think it will cost to complete, cause I guarantee that ESTIMATE CHANGES another dozen times

$33 billion

HS2 in the UK is roughly the same length at a price tag of around $90b. How come the UK and Japan manage to get HSR done and we can’t?

Trump made it about himself when he started canceling federal grants out of spite.

Like I said, they’re shooting to start laying track in 2026. I hope it succeeds. It would be a nice change of pace to see government deliver on something bold.

wow give them credit 18 years later they are shooting for 2026!!!! amazing he should be president!!

it was a stupid project in the first place even when it was campaigned idiots that just vote blue no matter voted for this garbage

meanwhile logical people were saying why not LA to SF or LA to Vegas, but hey lets start Bakersfield to Merced, cause thats really needed!!!

I dunno about you, I mean im no train enthusiast, but when I built trains as a kid, I started at point A and worked towards point B, I didnt start 200 miles away from the starting or ending point and have no direction
