That's FIV, and we have a foster cat with that. It's usually brawling tomcats that get it through deep puncture wounds.

This palooka was The King and sired gawd knows how many litters. We caught a few of his kittens and got them adopted out, and our objective with him was to catch, fix and release.

We caught this guy - a gray-and-white, medium-haired tomcat built like Mike Tyson in his prime - and brought him to the vet. He was a focking berserker, and a vet tech labeled him the meanest, angriest, most powerful cat she had ever seen.

Once snipped, the transformation was remarkable. He turned into a lazy, lovable, dopey-faced lap cat and a kitten magnet. All the kittens cuddled up around him, so we called him Uncle Lionel. 

He has lost his muscle definition and spends almost all day lounging on the couch. He's still pretty strong. When he wants in a lap, he'll just keep moving the legs like an NFL running back driving the pile.

He would be a danger to other cats only if he were aggressive, and he's the opposite of that.
