30th Anniversary: Cal Ripken Jr. becomes MLBs new “Iron Man”…

Recommended Posts

I was at the game in Cleveland the day after he broke the record.  The Indians were really cool and did a tribute for him and showed a fairly long highlight video.

I no longer have it (the picture) but I had great seats at Camden Yards about this time (3rd base side 1st row) and Griffey was on third and someone yelled something and both Cal and Ken turned towards us and I got a great pic of them seemingly looking at me. That and a shot of their jerseys from behind. I had them blown up to 8X10 and framed. Was a nice conversation piece.

This followed by Sosa/McGwire then Bonds brought baseball back from the decline of the 94 strike and restored the popularity of the game.

Moose threw a gem this game going 7.2 while Raffy hit two dingers and Bonilla added another.

I have the Baltimore Sun from September 7th, 1995 signed by Cal, framed and hanging in my office.

Bonds was productive until he was blackballed. Ripken had 2 season with an ops over .750 his last 10 seasons. hack
