Scheffler joins Woods with fourth PGA Tour award

Quote

Scottie Scheffler has become just the second man after Tiger Woods to win the PGA Tour's player of the year award for four seasons in a row.

The 29-year-old American won six times in 2025, including two majors - The Open and the PGA Championship - and recorded a PGA Tour-best 17 top-10 finishes as well as not missing a single cut.

He is just the second player to claim the Jack Nicklaus Award in at least four straight seasons after Woods (five in succession between 1999 and 2003 - and 11 overall).

World number one Scheffler won the vote of PGA Tour members ahead of his fellow American Ben Griffin, England's Tommy Fleetwood and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy.

PGA Tour chief executive Brian Rolapp said: "Scottie's consistent level of success has been nothing short of spectacular as he continues to chase history on the PGA Tour, and we're excited to see what he will deliver in 2026."

South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter received the Arnold Palmer Award as the PGA Tour rookie of the year after a season in which he was the only newcomer to qualify for the FedEx Cup Play-offs.

Potgieter, one of five rookies to win on the tour this season, is the third South African winner of the prize, joining Ernie Els (1994) and Trevor Immelman (2006).

Please stop comparing him to Tiger.

BORING!!

Career grand slam at Shinnecock in June.

Wouldn't bet against it.  With his distance and iron play, I'm surprised he hasn't won it yet.

Pebble in 27 likely suits his game better, but I won't ever bet against him .

Colt Knost is getting promoted to the booth at CBS. Johnson Wagner is leaving Golf Channel and will replace Knost as the on course reporter.

I’m going Monday to get new grips. I don’t usually pay attention to the grip market. Anyone got any recommendations?  I currently have Tour Velvet mid-size and would not be opposed to getting the same, but open to switching it up.

I’ve been playing Tour Velvet or tour wrap for years.  I tried some Winns a few years ago and was severely disappointed.  They wore terribly. I prob change my grips more than most do, I only use painters tape under the grip and change them with air compressor.  2 wraps of blue painters tape holds surprisingly well.  I tinker with shafts too, so this allows me to move grips from shaft to shaft. I’d stick with what you got, personally.  If it works, don’t overthink it.  Tour velvet mids are 52 or 53 grams, close to a standard grip.  If you’re going to something else, say a tour wrap G2, midsize is like 58g.  It doesn’t sound like much,  but enough to effect swing weight if your into that.

I will likely stick with the velvets. I’m going to pay to have it done though. I changed my own about 20 years ago and it was a giant pain in my ass. The tape, the glue, the stuff that smells like airplane glue- no thanks.

tour velvet or lamkin crossline... do they still make those?  I'm the opposite of fireballer, i rarely change my grips. old toothbrush and some soapy water every few months keeps them great. I also tend to keep whatever comes stock as its usually some form of company branded tour velvet. I think my irons and driver have golf pride "z grip", its the same thing.

it's pretty simple. i don't know of any glue.

hook knife to strip the old grip unless you want to blow it off to save it, grip tape, grip solvent.

This is timely, as I'm long overdue to regrip.  I might do it tomorrow as well.

I've historically preferred corded grips; what say you all?

I’ve never tried corded grips, but I’m intrigued after seeing this.

The pros: best possible grip in damp conditions, wear like iron and last years, will remain tacky forever if cleaned once in a while. For many players cord grips eliminate the need for a glove.

The cons: harsh and will chew up your hands if your grip is poor. Initially more expensive than non-cord”

The putter is where I might try something new. I currently have the Super Stroke pistol grip and don’t have any complaints other than I’m a sh1tty putter.

I pay to have 2 things done for me-

New grips

Ripping the membrane off a rack of ribs.

Two tedious tasks that test my patience.

Nah I get it. It’s still effort involved. But if you have the vice adapter, all you need to buy is a roll of grip tape and a bottle of solvent (or mineral spirits). Put a drip tray underneath to catch the excess solvent and it will last forever.
