Wisconsin rose from mediocracy to relevance and even top ten to twenty for twenty years but has been on a steady decent back to mediocracy for the lst few years.  I don't see that changing.  I hope it will, but I don't see it.

Sounds a bit like Florida who had an 80 year history of being terrible to mediocre - never even won the SEC. Then came Spurrier in the 90's followed by Meyer winning 2 more titles the last in '08. Then it's been back to mediocrity. They keep hiring bad coaches and their latest hire out of Tulane doesn't inspire much hope from fans.  At least he has a huge NIL budget to work with.

Duh.  But the point is Mark Cuban funded the NIL for Indiana.   Now that teams can legally pay players, like the SEC and OSU did under the table for years, these little guys will have a chance, as long a they have a funder or two out there.

Indiana won because Cuban funded them

Cuban and other donors only put Indiana on a level playing field in the money aspect.  But IU lacked the name to attract the best athletes so they had a bunch of three star recruits vs a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits like OSU, Oregon' Alabama and Miami had.   It had little to do with money but a miraculous job by Cignetti and his staff.  IUnwas the best coached team in college football
