Bill in Texas to label attacks against first responders as Hate Crimes.

Recommended Posts

A few states (NY, MS, KY) have proposed this in the past few months. It shouldn't be a hate crime though. It should be a bullet in the chest crime

That works too.

“Will it end attacks on police officers? No,”

Seems like a pretty worthless article , if not a meaningless gesture.

Does it require some kind of mandatory minimum? Lower burden

of proof? Anything?

I'm all for it if it does something. If not, pretty pointless.

I'd rather get rid of all 'hate crime' bullshiit. We've got

enough damn laws, enforce them.

The point of the law isn't to label it a hate crime so much as it is meant to amplify the punishment of those that commit crimes against first responders.

Hate crimes are normally next to impossible to prove due to the "mindset" burden of proof. This removes that aspect in essence (for these crimes) from what I can tell.

Sure, they could call it something else or just make it more severe. But it's better than nothing. And every state should have rules like this. Shoot at a cop, firefighter, medic and get reemed.

I think all crimes, even the ones done out of love, should be labeled hate crimes.

"The point Of the law isn't too label It a hate crime"

-Yet, That's exactly what the article States.

"But, to amplify the punishment"

-Yet, the article doesn't say anything about that.

Like I said, It's either a worthless article Or a meaningless gesture.

Just Playing devil's advocate here. What about Good Samaritans who intervene and get shot? I mean one could pretty easily argue The cops are doing their job and they are armed and protected by Kevlar whereas Individual Good Samaritans are not.

And, I'm pretty sure whether it's codified or not, You shoot a cop Or a firefighter And Juries and judges are more likely To hand down a harsher sentence.
