wiffleball 4,657 Posted October 14, 2017 I brought this up before in another context. I honestly think the heads of ESPN see this as the future of their Network. It's huge in Japan. F****** will fill stadiums with people watching kids play video games. I don't get it. But then again I also don't do any of the first person shooter games or anything else like that. I can't imagine this becoming a spectator sport. But between the head injury crap and all the other things and just the nature of our Millennial Society, I honestly think this is what ESPN is seeing in the future. F***, these commentators crack me up. But I give them props for trying to make watching dorks play video games exciting.
GobbleDog 822 Posted October 14, 2017 I'm 40's and play limited PC games. I wouldn't watch Esports. Even if you loved whatever game they play, hard to see how it sustains audience attention. Yet I read they get amazing ratings.?.
wiffleball 4,657 Posted October 14, 2017 Honestly, the more I think about it, and the kind of things that we see more and more on ESPN, yeah I know right now this is on TBS, but it reminds me of what yes PN was when they first came out. They didn't have any major sports contracts and so they showed the most random wild weird s*** there was kind of sort of sports-related from all over the world. With people unplugging at a record rate, there's no way that they are going to be able to pay a billion dollars to the NFL for TV rights much longer. If revenues are going down, then expenses have to go down too.

giraldi02 470 Posted October 14, 2017 I dont watch competitive ESports, however I watch a lot of Youtube on the game of choice that I am playing for tips, builds etc Sometimes at work I'll fire up Twitch or YouTube to see strategy for games like Overwatch. Mainly i like watching the pros do handicap matches against scrubs. 3 grandmasters facing 6 bronze dudes. In essence, a pro team facing a college team. fandandy 3,311 Posted October 14, 2017 I have watched a couple times. I think they were playing Counter Strike or something similar. I actually enjoy watching the Madden tournaments. I could see, if it was done in a way that all could participate, becoming bigger in time. It would be kinda cool to play Madden or a game you really enjoyed online and getting to compete in some sort of league with the possibility of actually being on TV and winning X amount of dollars.
