swirvenirvin 25 Posted May 29, 2011 Not sure if this has ever been a topic or not, or we know who has served. Just wondering where you served and for how long, and I guess if you saw real action. Also would like to thank-you for your service

Voltaire 5,322 Posted May 29, 2011 From 1989-92 active then 92-97 in the Michigan National Guard. I ordered repair parts and kept vehicle maintenance/dispatch records. 76C. I was in Fort Hood and Germany and took four months to run around Iraq in 2nd Armor Division (Forward) for the good George Bush Jan 5-May 10, 1991. Whether or not I saw action depends on your definition. I was in maintenance support for front line tanker units but I was always a couple of miles back. Further what the Gulf War was to 'combat' is the same what a father spanking a four year old is to 'fighting'. If what you mean by 'action' is somebody shooting at me, no I didn't get that. We shot at them and they died. And the 'we' doesn't include me, I was never in the position to shoot at anybody. We were moving around all the time relocating. These long, long convoys of trucks -one behind the other- snaking through the desert. We weren't even sure the war had started, we thought it was just another move, until we saw all the blown up Iraqi tanks and dead bodies. But we didn't bug with them, we just knew to follow the truck ahead of us and all he knew was to follow the truck ahead of him. Because we were vehicle maintenance, we were the very last trucks at the tail end of the convoy. Mercifully, I completely missed the Bulls/Pistons playoff series so my memory of the '80s Bulls as doormat for the Pistons remains intact. Also when I left home the music was really good and when I got back three years later, the music sucked. It was really disappointing.

JT 137 Posted May 29, 2011 Too tall to enlist. Thank you to all who served in defense of our country, in whatever capacity. It is the ultimate in public service and regardless your individual views, you have to acknowledge the debt owed to those willing to sacrifice whatever was required to support our freedom and way of life. Thank you.
Mungwater 597 Posted May 29, 2011 Too tall to enlist. Really? I've heard of that for certain MOSs, but never just a blanket too tall, and thr tallest guy I seen on active duty was about 6-10. How tall are you?
Big Blue 06 195 Posted May 29, 2011 Wasn't permitted to enlist, as I have a degenerative physical condition. God bless our troops, without them we'd be all focked.

Little over 6'8". In 1979 when I attempted to enlist in the Air Force, I was turned down due to height. Army turned me down due to multiple knee operations. That's as far as I pursued it.
