Guest TheCheat Posted August 12, 2005 In the uber-thread, I floated the idea of basing our teams where we're from, choosing climate factors accordingly, and creating the divisions based on geography, and a few ppl. supported the idea. If you *do* want to do this, pls. post where you're basing your team here. Maybe some natural divisions (North, South, East, West?) will become apparent. (Well, as natural as the NFL, anyway. ) My team will be from Boston (tho I could relocate to Maine if someone else is from here). Finally, I was thinking of building NE's first pro sports dome as I was looking over the guide, but it occured to me that others might want domes too and we probably don't want 14 domes. Anyone else building a dome? If a lot, maybe we could roll e-dice to decide who gets them. (I dunno...just typing out loud here.) Antonio Gates' Gate 0 Posted August 12, 2005 I am not 100% certain yet, but I am thinking beautiful Fresno, CA, home of my beloved Fresno State Bulldogs. I want to find out more about how demographics or population of a community may affect attendance though before I commit. My stadium will still be somewhere in Cali regardless. Guess that puts me in the Western division.
Antonio Gates' Gate 0 Posted August 12, 2005 Oh yes, I forgot my stadium is definitely going to be outdoor and have the surface that God intended football to be played on NATURAL GRASS!!
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 13, 2005 I'm not sure. I'll have to review the impact of stadiums and climate on the game. If I stuck close to home I'd be in Buffalo-esque weather. I just might prefer a nice balmy locale. Is Hawaii an option?

rexnervous 0 Posted August 13, 2005 Hmmm, looks like the NE is taken. More likely than not I will be going with either Oregon or North Carolina then. Gots to think about it a little more. And I'm 99% sure I'll be doing an outdoor stadium, regardless.
SmoovJello 0 Posted August 14, 2005 Northern Virginia here!!! I'm going with open air & grass as football is truly intended to be played on. Another for the East Coast division
Guest biggtyme13 Posted August 15, 2005 Well Id love to throw a team in the capital city of NY Albany and represent the 518 but if we are going big market put me in the heart of manhatten out doors grass
Theyhateme459 0 Posted August 15, 2005 I'm gonna build a nice country stadium... maybe dome in the great state of S.Carolina..... Building a dome vs out door will depend on my GAMEDAY strategy.
Wildman 0 Posted August 19, 2005 I actually would like to incorporate my stadium/climate into my strategy so I'd prefer to have more of a choice than Georgia weather
Blitzen 0 Posted August 19, 2005 I located at the Louisiana Superdome since I can't choose a stadium in Ottawa.

Didn't think the option was there...I'll look into it. I'm guessing the population size may be a problem for attendance though.
Dan Sez 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Are you guys already in the League area or are you setting up general parameters? If it is in general parameters, can two or more franchises be in the same area? I just got registered this morning and am trying to catch up. thanks

Also, I don't think attendance matters, for those worried about that.

I just got registered this morning and am trying to catch up. thanks You just write in where you're located. Don't think the machine actually makes anything of the locale. If it's an outdoor stadium, then you set the conditions. That's what matters. So yes I believe two franchises could be in the same are. Didn't think the option was there...I'll look into it. I'm guessing the population size may be a problem for attendance though. It is, you just rename it Ottawa Dome or whatever. Similarly you could load an existing stadium like Miami's, tweak the settings to make it colder, etc., and call it the Anchorage Memorial Stadium. The local population isn't an issue for attendance, as attendance is simply a calculation of how "successful" your franchise is (both w/in the context of our league and w/in the context of all of the leagues of our size in GDR). IIRC the calculation is a % of the capacity you set based on how well your club and our league's doing...so, if your club's undefeated and well-run and our league is a strong one, (and here I'm making stuff up, as I don't know the actual calculations GDR uses) you might get 95% of the capacity you specified as your attendance figure. If you set your capacity to 50,000, attendance would be 47,500 in this case; if set to 30,000, attendance would be 28,500.
Dan Sez 0 Posted August 19, 2005 So why would anyone want a smaller stadium? I guess there is a "maintenance fee" associated with size.
Guest TheCheat Posted August 19, 2005 So why would anyone want a smaller stadium? I guess there is a "maintenance fee" associated with size. Dunno, maybe a disturbing preoccupation w/ arena football? Don't think it matters. Maintenance fee? Haven't bumped into anything like that yet myself. Re: two franchises in the same area -- there's nothing preventing it. Part of the reason I started this thread was to see where folks wanted to be and see if there were cases like that. Imho, it s/b wherever you want, so I think ppl. should do the smaller "markets" they want. I'll edit my post at the top of this thread and add a list of tentative locations.
