JT 137 Posted April 30, 2006 I don't think the Texans pick was that bad - they have a decent starting RB and Williams is going to be a really special player. Far as trading down I'm sure they explored it but it's so hard to find teams willing to dish out a handful off picks to move up in a deep draft. The stupidest pick IMO was Reggie Bush to NO - running back is maybe the one position that's not broken on that team. Leinart slipped pretty far but at least he'll have some good skill position players to work with, throwing to Boldin and Fitzgerald and handing off to Edge. Kurt Warner is near the end; he's the perfect guy to throw to the wolves for a few games while Leinert gets his feet wet. I'm delighted with the Eagles pick of Bunkley. As a Philly phan, I agree on Buckner, and I think Leinart landed in a great situation. Yeah, he'll lose $$$ compared to where he would have gone last year. But does anyone really believe Alex Smith is in a better position to succeed long term than Leinart is? As for Houston & NO picks, I'm not with you. Casserly (sp?), the Houston GM, says "defense wins championships". I agree...if you're a playoff team, or close to it, a big defensive playmaker can make a huge difference. But when your opponent doesn't have to take any chances because your team can't score enough points to win, a pass rusher is the least of your needs. I have to believe that if you looked at last season, Houston would have 15 opportunities per game to get the ball in Bush's hands (run, catch, kick/punt returns). I truly believe that with his skills, 15 touches per game will result in 15-20 TD per season. How many games would that change for a team with as many flaws as the Texans? As for the Saints, McAllister has played 19 of the teams last 32 games. During that two year stretch he has 6 runs over 20 yds and 12 TD in 365 carries. He's also coming off major knee surgery. One of the questions about Bush is his limited carries in college. If durability is a question, you want a quality back to pair him with. It also makes sense to take a guy to supplement Deuce if healthy and give you the breakaway threat that he hasn't provided of late. I wouldn't have minded them picking up Mike Williams at TE, but with Brown, Ahzuma, and Green gone we needed to bolster our secondary. I think we're gonna be ok. The D-linemen was a bit suprising but ok as well. We've got a bit more depth in our D now and I think it's going to be even harder to score on Chicago now. The returner we picked up is going to really help us as the Bear's D forces a lot of punts. Our feild advantage just got a bit better! I'd still like to see a TE get picked up manana. If I were a NO fan I'd be really disappointed that Williams was drafted #1. Didn't know how beat up McAllister has been though so you've got a point. BTW, I absolutely LOVE the Eagles 2nd round pick of Winston Justice - I thought they'd end up with him at 14 overall! They've really bolstered both lines in this draft.
