dcOne 2 Posted June 1, 2006 We all have 7 "pickups" to use throughout the season. When they are gone, they are gone. You can trade for them, of course, and we have no roster limit. Scott traded Robert a couple picks for a bunch of picks...you can see that took place in latter rounds. My team, is "Tim"...and I am fairly happy with it---1 pt per reception, IMO justifies taking Westbrook so high, and with Ricky out of the picture, I think Ronnie Brown was a good valued pick...although when I took him, it was all still up in the air. dcOne 2 Posted June 1, 2006 Ronnie Brown 3-11 We drafted prior to knowing what was up with RW. Where is Brown going in most mock drafts, or drafts that have taken place AFTER the NFL draft? And the dude that made the team rosters...did it in a goofy way...sort of hard to read. And he obviously wasn't sure whether Santonio Holmes was a RB or WR. I just copied and pasted this from our emails.
markblaz 0 Posted June 1, 2006 ive never understood why people hold drafts so early. makes absolutely no sense. your basically drafting by guessing instead of by knowing what your doing. it really puts the person that actually knows what he's doing at a disadvantage. BUCKEYES 0 Posted June 1, 2006 You mentioned you guys have always drafted at this time of the year? WHY??? I know it can be difficult to get everybody together for a live draft, but more than 4 months before the season starts. That's unbelievable! So many teams still have players fighting for starting positions. Not to mention the injuries that WILL happen in training camp. I would leave that league or find another one to join as well. Are the magazines even out yet?

So many teams still have players fighting for starting positions. Not to mention the injuries that WILL happen in training camp. I would leave that league or find another one to join as well. Are the magazines even out yet? We have done it this way for 6 years now. We look at it as "just another way to draft", kinda like, different scoring systems, etc. Many of us are in a "normal" league also. We do the entire draft by email--as all of us are across the USA---all friends, that grew up in the same area...but went our separate ways. We have a 24 hour time limit to pick. So when the first person picks, he just puts 1-1 Larry Johnson.... then sends the email to everyone. The second guy adds his pick, then sends it to everyone. What I really like, is the way we draft the first round. We first "draw for positions". So if I have position #1, I can either pick or pass. #2 then has the same option. If he passes, #3 can pick or pass. If #3 picks Larry Johnson, he picked 1-1, (got first pick of draft, won't draft again til #24 & 25). Now it goes back to #1--and he again can decide "pick or pass". If you get #12, and the guy before you passes, you can't pass. You have to pick-obviously. It adds strategy, as to decide whether to pass or pick.

We get 24 hours to pick. If #1 picks at 2:00, and #2 picks at 2:01, #3 gets till 2:01 the following day. Not everyone uses the 24 hours. Very few do. If they do...the rest of the league (jokingly) makes stupid jokes about milking the clock, wasting time, etc.... even if u didnt know what was going on with ricky, i would still take a chance on ronnie. Which is what I did, and why he went so late. Ricky hadn't been even busted yet. Once he was busted, everyone was like...."Oh...you lucked out...yada yada". Then there were the ones "Yah....Ricky will get off, and end up starting anyway, or worst case, go to Denver." I actually thought he'd beat the charges, and get traded to someone. I almost took him also. Someone beat me to it.

After the top 3 RB's I would have a hard time passing on S Smith for the ronnie browns and caddys and those type of rb's. I think smith outscores all of them in a ppr league. ratbastard1 0 Posted June 3, 2006 Everyone is at the same disadvantage when drafting this early. For one thing everyone basically has to make their own cheat sheets. Theres really no disadvantage for serious researchers. In fact, it may be the opposite. There is just as much chance for a guy to be injured, etc as their is to take the starting position. Its like you have to treat it as a keeper league with emphasis on "this" year's staff. Ex. It wasnt a disadvantage to me. After the probowl we have to name our 5 keepers (12 team). I traded big for Wayne, Droughns, DDavis and Ronnie to go along with my stud QB. As you can see I actually made some decisions but I looked at the equations hard. I knew Rubby would be starting, where the uneducated eye might just ignore his light TD stats. I knew Ronnie would be good for my team even if Ricky was fine. I also knew DD and his contract would mean the young RB would get some playing time no matter what might be traded. Wayne I was actually pretty confident would stay in Indy but didnt mind if he became a #1 in say Philly? As you can see, because I was already researching this year, in part because of you fine people, i had educated views on 4 young players that had guessable questions. Then again I would guess that all of most of you, like myself, research/list/debate more than most leagues. Trading before the season must be cool for this "redraft". As you can see I am riding a roller coaster with Rubby right now. But man the offseason is great! All kinds of e-mail smack-talk etc. I like the early draft.
