Was watching local Fox news this morning and they said 84% of Americans have cut their spending in other areas because of the high price of gas.

Have you?

Always have watched the spending. We buy items on sale, price shop/compare is a must!

Done.

But I think the Republicans are not allowing it to count.

Because of gas prices, or in general? I mean I don't waste money and I look for deals and such too, but I haven't changed my spending habits, I'm not changing my thermostat or consolidating trips, or cancelling vacations, etc.

The wife is a sale mongrel. The woman scours the newspaper, internet, and other resources for the best possible deals on everything. We are for the most part, ahead of the game because of her attention to these types of things, especially living in Hawaii where the prices for everything are inflated. So I guess in short, no we have not changed our spending habits.

I've been more changing my driving habits rather then changing my spending habits. I've been far more conscious about keeping my tires inflated, keeping my speed lower, carpooling with my wife, and when going shopping going all at once rather then making three seperate trips in a week.

That's good for the environment too

Yes. Slightly. Instead of putting $20 worth of gas in the car every couple weeks, I'm now putting in $40. That's $40 extra a month. Unless I'm willing to save less, which I'm not, I have to make cuts somewhere.

The biggest difference is in impulse buying. Thinks like spontaneously running to Culvers to get an ice cream are all but gone. Not only do I have to factor in the price of the ice cream, but now I have to figure it's going to be a buck for the fuel as well. So I do a lot less of that kind of thing. So at least I'm a little healthier for it.
