Jerry Porter...DUMB pick league...Draft COMMENTARY...take 2.

Recommended Posts

Scooter - have you had your wcoff(or whatever the abbreviations are) draft yet? I would love to see what your team ended up looking like. Hope you didn't take Portis,TO,Vanderjagt,Culpepper,Brees, or Darrell Jackson!

I can't do that. Your team would be really good. Unfortunately, you are going to be tough to beat this year, and it really isn't in my best interests to give you depth in a position that is rather sparce on my team. I drafted 3 TEs for a reason. One will pan out. Miller should put up numbers. I just really like Cooley this year in that offense.

i thought i was gonna be tough to beat too until steve smiths hammy started acting up, and my 6th round pick might retire!

Way to go TE McMichaiel ;) - - one freakin' catch for 10 yards and 2 whole points for the strappers  . Culpepper looked like the big suck last night and better start throwing the rock to my boy.

Joc, those 2 images above are probably the smartest thing youve done with that brain of yours regarding FF all year.....keep practicing that move...Im sure by the end of the season you'll be good at it. ;) :D

seriously, is way early so youve still got plenty of time to trade away some of your useful players. Id make an offer, but my team really sucks.

I think I did fairly well.

I have not yet posted it anywhere, but since you asked, I'll keep it to a limited audience here.

First I'll say that it was the weirdest league ever. It was in fact the weirdest draft in the entire ballroom of 50+ leagues.

The guy at #1 went RB-WR-WR-WR-WR and the guy at 12 went RB-RB-RB-RB-RB-RB.

This had a bizarre impact. Team LT2 has MBIII and DWilliams as his RB and FL positions. He didn't even start his 4th "stud" receiver in the FL. Needless to say, he lost week #1.

Team #12 with his 6 RBs and team #1 with his 1 through 6 (he took Horn over either MBell or TBell, Addai & McAllister) sent a ripple through the league. Guys like Jacobs and MBIII who were going in rounds 9-14 in every other league there went in rounds 6th-10th in our league. By the 11th, there wan't a RB worth spit left.

I ended up going with the following:

1.10 - SJax (was ticked I missed Jordan by one pick...whew)

2.03 - Fitzgerald (as planned)

3.10 - JJones (was ticked I missed Droughns by 1 pick....whew again)

4.03 - Hines Ward (ppr monster)

5.10 - Tatum Bell (took a BIG gamble on a Rat's RB...Mike Bell went at 5.08, and I felt if he did what he did in 2005, he'd be a great flex back)

6.03 - Matt Jones (nuff said - I'm still quite high on the guy, and he will have big weeks)

7.10 - Donovan McNabb (I wanted to wait another several rounds, but there was a short run on QBs and the value was too much to pass up.

8.03 - Troy Williamson (teams in line ahead all needed WRs. I nabbed one of the last few #1s with this pick. Despite 3 drops, Brad Johnson already said he's his #1 target and deep threat. He dropped a sure TD. Kick myself because I realized after the pick that Jacobs was there and knew he wouldn't make it back. He didn't - went 4 picks later. )

9.10 - Randy McMichael

10.03 - TJ Duckett

11.10 - Marty Booker

12.03 - Shawn Bryson

13.10 - Mewelde Moore

14.03 - Ben Troupe

15.10 - Tony Fisher

16.03 - Alex Smith (QB)

17.10 - Bengals D/ST

18.03 - Chargers D/ST

19.10 - N. Kaeding

20.03 - Michael Robinson

My depth at RB sucks balls. If one of my 3 main RBs goes down, I'm sunk. Team #12 real, really screwed up a ton of teams with their insanity, and because team #1 needed backs, everyone panicked in between. Probably why I was able to get McNabb in the 7th round.

That said, I was the 2nd highest scorer in week 1, and owned my opponent. I love my chances to win the league because of the short season (11 weeks) and the PPR/FL lineup. Not one of my RBs shares a BYE nor do my top 4 WRs. And moreover, all of them can be swapped around. With the PPR format, a 9 cach 130 yd night (Fitz) is worth 22 points even without a TD. So a WR in the FL spot is a solid play.

I doubt I'll win the whole thing with this team, but drafting 10th and with the bizarre draft, I think I did well. I was so pissed off that I ended up in the freak league. People were literally walking over to gawk at what teams 1 & 12 did. Idiots.

Could you post team 12's roster too? (wondering how that strategy worked out)

I think it sucked for him.

Here's his roster:

QB

Favre, Brett GBP NOS 6 7

RB

Dillon, Corey NEP NYJ 6 12

McGahee, Willis BUF MIA 8 11

Williams, Carnell TBB ATL 4 10

WR

Muhammad, Muhsin CHI DET 7 16

Bruce, Isaac STL SFO 7 11

Brown, Reggie PHI NYG 9 10

TE

Winslow, Kellen CLE CIN 6 20

K

Brown, Josh SEA ARI 5 12

DT

Eagles - DT PHI NYG 9 6

Bench Players - 10

QB

Carr, David HOU IND 5 17

Culpepper, Daunte MIA BUF 8 12

RB

Lewis, Jamal BAL OAK 7 14

McAllister, Deuce NOS GBP 7 9

Addai, Joseph IND HOU 6 8

WR

Jurevicius, Joe CLE CIN 6 0

Brown, Troy NEP NYJ 6 10

Parker, Eric SDC TEN 3 7

TE

Klopfenstein, Joe STL SFO 7 0

K

Reed, Jeff PIT JAX 4 4

So of his RBs, the only ones who are full time backs are McGahee, Caddy & JLewis. And Caddy is a BUST this year with that mess of a team missing 2 O-Linemen and Simms sucking balls...JLewis has Anderson/MSmith, and then a hodge podge of McAllister, Addai, Dillon...

His WRs suck, he has BYE week conflicts, and IMO he'll play the wrong RBs every week.

Man - this league was on fire during the draft and predraft. Had an incredible live 12 hr rule draft limit. Trash talking excellent - knowledge at the time second to none - most enjoyable off season I have endured. We all had different angles and it was awesome. This 12 better committ to next may or june for the exact same format. Until then, you guys lay low, "don't come 'round here nomore" - tom petty - and watch as THEBIGJOCSTRAP quitely wins the first place in many years to come :first:

btw

deshaun foster is OFFPACE

Norwood is not ahead of Bush after week one - - yet

MISSISSIPPI HAS NOT SCORED A POINT IN TWO GAME 0-15 south car. 0-thirty something to Aub - I might be wrong on this one

Not that the rest of the leagues I'm in are crap, but this league's draft was most competitive.. :bench:

If it is around next year, which I hope it is, the draft should be begin June 11, like it did this season.

Jerry Porter is a dumb pick.

Totally agree.

And the nice thing is that it was a very good draft in terms of education. Everyone in the league is capable of holding thier own, right or wrong...because of that we all get tips on guys and get to see them in another light. Because of this league, Donald Driver because my steal of the draft in my main league.

For sure it needs to start in early July - perfect warm up before the late August drafts. :first:

Sheesh, I thought you were having me on when you said getting Westy + Fitz from the 10 hole might be a good start after all the "???" stuff posted after my first two picks.

Getting McNafro in the 7th had to make you feel like doing the dancing banana.

Good luck!

Well you know what? I love this league and the draft. Of course all you fockers had me at the bottom of your list....now what? I'm going to take it all BAAWWAAHHAHAHAHA.

But here's some I told ya so's.

Lamont Jordan was a bad pick...tada!!

DJax isn't quit washed up yet.

Yes, Eli can be as good as his brother.

Rudy is still lighting it up, even though it's a PPR league

JJ doesn't split as many carries as other combo's. (as long as he keeps this pace)

Now...here's where you guys can beat me with a bat.

Any TN player sucks and I can't waiver them fast enough

Kennison was pretty bad, but with Hoard(sp), I'm screwed!

Well boys I lost - I know it's hard for some of you to believe :headbanger: . Had a very nice point total so no complaints here. Deshuan Foster sucks so whichever dumbass in your league that took a gamble on him and traded Chester TAylor - well he's a fool. Why haven't you started Stallworth either? Well I might just do it this week. :pointstosky:

How y'all like Chester Taylor?

I accept all thanks for "I toldja so". I believe that was the biggest ration of sh!t I've ever taken for recommending a player on this site. In the initial "how's my draft" topic I was all over him for skipping on CT, and lo and behold: that was the pick.

So my post that inspired all that infighting, and thus, this whole league and no one's yet said, "wow, were we wrong about CTaylor Scooter"

Whatever.

lol

Got Chester Taylor @ 3.12 in another league. Thanks for the tip.

I can't wait to get Portis back this week to team up with Chesterfield. Stings like a SOB now (1-1), but Portis is going to romp soon enough.

there are couple of reasons for this.....1, we're TWO friggin' weeks in, and at this time last year, Larry Johnson was still wearing his diapers. and 2, you loved Lamont stinkin' Jordan more than just about any other RB. so 50/50 after 2 weeks is nothing really worth praising. But so far, youre clearly looking on point with Taylor and any of the Niners players youve been pimping, Scoot, so Im not gonna leave you totally hangin'. I hope all your squads continue to roll.........

SCOOTER - OH SCOOTER - how about that trade now? I gave Chester and Warner and received Brady and Tatum.

updated three games later,

Warner - possibly getting yanked and the golden boy could start wk 4? Analysis - - bench warner week 4

Chester Taylor - gosh damn is he getting the touches though. He is hands down getting every chance to be the #1 rb in the league. Touches, touches and more touches but I don't understand why he doesn't have a 125 yard game and more than 1 td under his belt?

Brady - I have started every week and he has done an average job - Carr is much better!

Tatum - looks to be the main man and several 100 yard games I foresee in his future!

Seriously though, how do you think it has turned out?

Great! This league's turning out to be pretty competitive. Although I did just win a week with a TE and D/ST on the BYE. My 1-2 blew up. How'd you all like Portis/Parker now?

I have Tatum Bell in the WCOFF. It was a PAINFUL 5th rounder, but it seems to have worked out for the better.

Post current records on your other teams...and your thoughts

Jocstraps $400.00 12 team redraft - - the big suck 1-2 (I tied this weekend with my best total of the year and lost b/c of bench points :wall:

What I've noticed - - Is there a top 9 WR drafted that has 3 td's yet? D-Jax wasn't a top 10er this year leading the pack I do believe with 3 - ? Oh where have the great ones gone (i know its still early in the year)

RB - not many rushing td's at all from any given person - Willis leading the pack with most rushing yards but 0 td's was not predicted. LT looks the best of the big three but too bad he's out of the game by the 4th. Westbrook and FWP do look good. Tatum will win the championship for whoever has him.

QB - how about that David CArr <_< - welcome back brett favre, Palmer are you kidding me - how good is this guy - and that focker hasselbeck with his 5 td's should have started that next week not against me. Roth doesn't look good, and drew Brees gets my double  .

Jerry Porter update - hahahahah - - -seriously is he even dressing up or playing or suspended - does he even have a catch? JERRY PORTER WAS A DUMB PICK!

Cheser Taylor - wow you could only be pleased by the amount of touches - things could click for the o-line and off too the races

Deshaun Foster - WTF? I Jocstrap would've bet the farm he would've scored by now :wall:

I usually play in three leagues every year. Two $100 to 150 leagues plus a freebie (PORTER)

Off to a good start. Led all three leagues in scoring week 3.

(3-0) Main 10 team $130 league and leading the leage in points.

Starting lineup:

Peyton

Westy (man love doesn't begin to describe our relationship)

Thomas Jones

Reserves: Rhodes/Addai/Lamont Jordan

Driver

Ward

Reggie Brown

Reserves: Colston & Cotchery

Heap Reserve: Cooley

Gould

Jax / Pitt D

(2-1) Newbie in a long standing 12 team $100 league.

Starting lineup and I don't like my team at all. Only guys I really wanted here were Portis, Mason, Addai & Jax D.

Favre/Alex Smith (Spurn you to Hades Aaron Brooks!!!)

Portis

Chester Taylor

Reserves: Caddy & Addai

Ward

Mason

Reserves: Matt Jones/Troy Williamson

LJ Smith

Gould

Jax & San Diego D (Only McNabb has scored more pts 93 than the Baltimore Defense 86 after 3 weeks).

Last but not least...

3-0 in Porter was an extremely dumb pick league! :ninja:

So Joc who do you play this weekend?

We'll Joc, I'll have to get to the site right after this to see Who's Ass I'll kick next.

Tell Me Joc, Do you like your team?

Well as a matter of fact Joc, It's looking pretty solid right now!

Good Luck joc

Joc, sorry for the silence, but I'm not feeling great about my record thus far in this league. I don't think I ever started 1-3, except in my rookie year.

In my other leagues, I am currently 2-2, 2-2, 3-1 & 4-0. I'll at least give weekly updates on my other league's records.

I've played this game for 5 years and this year I tried to compile my teams with a more diversified approach, selecting players based more on ADP in the early rounds more than I have in the past. In this league the only reason I didn't select Donovan McNabb (my favorite player) is because i already had him in a couple keeper leagues......Anyway, next year, I think I'm gonna ditch this diversification theory or at least tone it down a notch...

The Steel teams took a hit in all leagues. Would have won in my main league if I started Lamont Jordan or Addai instead of Westy. Motto: Win by the Westy...Die by the Westy.

Been working on the house all week. I was out shopping Monday night & didn't hear about Westy being OUT until the game had started. Good news is, I have a completely new dining room right down to the pictures on the walls. I have also fallen in love with the Samsung flat screen TVs. Put a 27" in there (same one you see in the Dan Marino commercial). Have one in my living room too.

My baby girl also has a "Princess Room" bed, paint, boarder. Out with the nursery rhymes, in with Snow White & Tatem..er Tinker Bell.

Managed to trade away Caddy, my 2nd round pick for ex free agent Colston. The Colston owner came to me for a deal. I didn't bother checking the injury report before accepting. Great drafting me. <_< Will see how Colston works out as a TE for me here. OK, OK, don't get your panties in a bunch. He's a WR only.

Most of the work is done, so I'm back and ready to continue with the beatings.

Pretty good considering Caddy's crappy start.

The Bucs upcoming schedule is brutal, so I'm glad I got a wet paper sack in return. That's why I didn't hesitate with the offer. My plan was actually to trade away Caddy from day 1. I was just planning on seeing a couple good games before trading him & an average player for a stud. He just started sucking early and often.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I checked daily for a while, but nobody was posting, so I figured if anybody had something to say, it would be on the Yahoo league board. You can see from my Yahoo with you guys, I'm 3-2. I'm acheiving my goal. I didn't know how I would fair being up against you pros, but I hoped to be competetive. I was a little discouraged because of the low rankings from you guys after the draft, even though I thought I had a pretty nice team.

As far as my money league. I'm 3-2 as well. One of the losses I really screwed up on my decisions. Just to point out a rule in that league. We have fixed rosters, meaning set numbers for any position. We are only allowed 4 running backs. I have Westbrook, SA, Dillon, Maroney. We are allowed to put a playing in IR when he is listed as "OUT" on the official injury report. Of course with SA being out, and Westbrook being week to week, it's been hell trying to set lineups. Back to my losses. I started Westbrook after he practiced all week, just to get pulled right before the game, results=goose egg. The next loss, Westbrook and Santana Moss didn't practice all week, started some other lesser players, and both freaking blew up sitting on my bench. I'm leading my division and as soon as I get Westy and SA together, I should be back in the running.

WTG GP!

That SA + Westy combo looks pretty fearsome. Many owners including myself did the same thing with Westbrook the last two weeks. No big.

As far as the suspended bum JP league, 3-2 is rock solid. Keep it up and prove all the non experts like myself wrong.

Speaking of other leagues, you've gotta keep us updated with your team Scoot. How is your record? We are all pulling for you ya stinkin bum.
