GAME 7 STANLEY CUP FINALS

Recommended Posts

course it was easy being from Long Island and the Islanders ruled the sport there for a few years.

Where from Kutulu ? Grew up in Elmont (and despised Vinny Testicleverde).

anyone catch during the 2 min celebrtion that NBC covered Hedican (I think) held the cup over his head and screamed FOCK YEAH FOCK YEAH before they cut away ? Thats what you get when you mic the ice.

From the Smithtown/Huntington area, but we moved upstate (just North of Albany) before I started  grade so I really don't remember a whole lot of L.I.

The ratings weren't that bad, for hockey. It averaged a 3.5/6 and had a peak of 4.1/7. Beat out ABC's programming. Could have been worse.

Actually watched the game & it was a good one. I've been to college basketball in that arena & I don't think I've ever seen it that crazy, no way the wolfies have gotten it that loud :P

It was interesting to watch the local news last night out of Gboro/Winston-Salem. They had live reporters there, but they were like "oh, Stanley Cup, wow...(pause  ) In other news..." One anchor was like "is this really the first professional championship won in North Carolina?" I'm sure the RDU stations were a little more psyched, but I don't get those stations. The Hurricanes played their first season in Greensboro, I would've expected more from them.

I would've rather seen the Panthers win the first N.C. pro championship, but I'm glad to see the 'canes win this one, I didn't realize Brindamour & a couple of other guys hadn't won it. Good for them

Played hockey with Cullen back in high school, can't wait to see that cup when he brings it back to town. Way to go Carolina!

Damn shame really. All the great teams in the league, and a team with 12 fans wins. Area barely deserves a minor league team.

Oh well.

Bitter, part of one?

Let's Go Flye... oh, forget it.

Should have been the Sabres.

We took the "wanna be canes hockey fans" to 7 games)

without our 4 top d and timmy connolly

We kicked the Sabres butts! That was easy! Go CANES!!!!

Guess you missed the hootin' and hollerin' in the packed RBC Center last night! If there are only 12 of us, does that mean I get the Cup for a whole month?

 :first: :wall:

Only a Sabres fan would think this year's playoffs had anything to do with luck. Markkonen played great, way beyond what anyone knew he could do before this. Everybody likes to rave about our boy Cam Ward but honestly Jussi was just as good in the finals.

I'm still flying high off of what is easily the best month of hockey in recorded history. I learned so much about the game and saw so many top quality performances and hard fought contests. They owed us big time after the strike and these playoffs go a long way to heal that damage.

I'd still be :first: even if we hadn't won the Cup, but now I'm  ;) .

Cinderella season for Carolina, well done! USA vs Canada, the U.S.A wins and only :( that many cares.

1 reason people dont care about the us/canada angle is..it isnt a good one..

sure..carolina is in the usa..but most of their guys are from Canada..

as far as who was the mvp? ward or brindamour? both are Canadian..

it isnt a usa vs canada deal...

im ok with the canes winning it..no longer do i have to hear that Roy was the last rookie to win a Cup..

shouldnt have been the Sabres..they werent meant to win the Cup..Im not sure why they think they are the only team to have suffered any injuries..

Who else lost their top playmaker and 4 of their top 5 defensemen? That's unheard of. Don't get me wrong, Carolina was a deserving winner and good for them. But out of those 5 players, if Buffalo would have had just 2 of those 4 defensemen back, they would have won that series. But I'm aware injuries occur and that's just how it works. But you can't deny Buffalo was better with a full lineup. They had the lead through 2 periods in game 7 with only 3 legitimate NHL defensemen out of 6. That says something.

sorry...I agree on the injuries, and was just looking for a reaction...

i was pulling for the sabres once the devils were ousted..

i dont knock the canes for the musical goalies though..they had the depth..people swear to the "ride the hot goalie' theme and its obvious why..

but while ward DID get pulled and struggle at times..he was resting..while other goalies being ridden, were playing night in and night out..

i still thought the sharks were the team to beat in the west..toskala hit a wall and they never went to a proven backup in nabokov..they worried more about his confidence than they did resting him..for me, it showed a lack of confidence in evgeni....

i thought laviolette used his luxury well..

not only was buffalo a better lineup than carolna..they were young and loved to go go go..no left wing lock.. had they made the finals, it wouldve been our first with no red line..with edm-car, you had to keep reminding yourself that there WAS no line..it was a bit too trap happy...

Just wait until next season. They'll be even better than ever. They may lose McKee, but they'll get someone via free agency.

Y'know, I used to respect the Sabres. Their series with the Canes was I think the best of all in this year's playoffs. You should be damn proud of your team.

But after this thread, well, we already knew your coach is an ass and now it appears all your fans are whiners. Even the Flyers and Red Wings fans are showing more class. :P

In your face Buffalo!

 :wall:

The :first: lives in North Cackilacky. Redneck hockey 4eva!

How are we whiners? I said very nice things about the Canes. But if you are going to sit there and deny that Buffalo was better with a full lineup, well then you're just on another planet.

Howboot the draft on Saturday?

phil kessel shouldve went to wisc and not minny..that wouldve helped his stock..

seriously though..hes a top 2 pick...

eric gryba-d-green bay..to the devils, ducks or kings..

those were the 3 teams that seemed to be scouting him nonstop..someone else could get him..hes a known commodity..but these 3 teams seem serious..

though on the ducks scouting page, it said..sometimes plays with the flow of the game and can disappear at times..when things are moving, he can be the best guy out there..not a 100% all the time guy...

but solid and tough...

kyle okposo is a top 3 pick as well..the ushl is NOT the chl, thats for sure..but the talent level is close..he always seemed to be in his own class when hes out there..strong with the puck..

trevor lewis is a nice player as well..teammate of kyle..but he has work to do..

Nigel Williams is a good sleeper on D..played with the us dev't team..going to wisconsin..mark osiecki has fired off good D men everywhere..(Preissing..matt greene..tom gilbert..)

itll be interesting to see if the 2 lovebird/buddies..havlat and elias get their wish and hook up..ottawa would take gionta or gomez for havlat..i dont think Lou would go for it..but elias has proven how valuable he is..i just dont think havlat is worth the big asking price...

i would try to get chara though..

Thats what you get when you mic the ice.

i liked it..if HBO would run a show on unedited mic comments by (hockey, football, baseball guys)..id love to see it..

is he still married to kristi yamiguchi? i think hes the 1 married to her...

The ratings weren't that bad, for hockey. It averaged a 3.5/6 and had a peak of 4.1/7. Beat out ABC's programming. Could have been worse.

considering that a season was lost.the economics were f'ed and the ice product wasnt too good..the last thing anyone thought about was ratings...

baseball lost ratings as well when they gave up on the world series and they needed the steroid era to get fans back..

the nhl is taking the clean route..the game is a lot better..the cap has proven to work..revenue is well up above expectations(what the nhl cares more about than ratings)..

it had to be difficult to market the hook and hold nhl..but now its better..go to a game once and see crosby or ovechkin and youll be hooked..i like the direction of the nhl...

no one expected great ratings..1 step at a time..

I think the Sabres will take a defenseman at #24. Either Chris Summers, Dave Fischer or Yuri Alexandrov. Maybe Ty Wishart will drop, but probably not.

St. Louis will prolly take Erik Johnson. I wonder if Pittsburgh would move up try and get him. If not, I think they take Kessel. I think Chicago will go with Jonathan Toews. Washington will prolly take Jordan Staal and Boston will prolly go with Nicklas Backstrom.

Don't be surprised if it's a goalie. Sabres no longer have the rights to Micheal Valent and only have Adam Dennis in the system. I expect them to pick 2 goalies in this draft.

I don't think McKee will stay

Rumor has it that we may be interested in trading an extra forward or two for some D on Calgary because they have a surplus of them.

Another thing I heard was Peca is an UFA and Buffalo may be interested in bringing him back because family in the area?

Mckee I believe goes to Ottawa or Toronto.

I'll be at the draft party saturday.

I am not buying into that Helenius stuff. :D

I'd like to see them take Neuwirth or another with their own 2nd round pick.
