I have been the commish of a leage for about 5 years now. Started off using Sandbox back when it was free and have been using the free version of Yahoo for sometime noe. Looking to expand on the league by maybe doing a 1 or 2 player keeper league. Any thoughts on what the best site to use would be helpful!

last year i was in three leagues. We used cbs sports, espn, and the free yahoo. cbs was by far the best of the three.

Besides the cost, you can't go wrong with CBS. ESPN was a joke last year and I won't go back. I created a new league on MFL. Like what I see so far, but let's see how the year goes.

Cdub - how are MFL's live drafts? We are doing our on the Sat. of Pre-seaon week 3 so there shouldn't be much traffic. I see a 90 sec. delay in scoring updates, but I will take that if it is legit.

I have used Yahoo, CBS, MFL and RTS. By far RTSports ranks higher than any other. Customer service is excellent and is priced right. Plus they listen to you when it comes time to upgrade the site each year. We use a forum which they read and reply to tell them what we want. Some suggestions were completed with a few days of our request.

Having used both, RTS is by far the better value. First year is $90. Returning leagues get a discount. I now pay $72 for one year.

 

CBS even with a discount is over $120. Without discount even more. Take the difference and give it to the winner.

 

Plus CBS customer service is notoriously slow if non-existent. RTS will sometimes reply within 24 hours or less.

so what is the benefit of rtsports? aside from customer service? i dont want a site that crashes on sunday to where the live updates wont work etc...i want to have access to the latest news and updates etc...does rtsports have all that?

I like Yahoo myself. Fanball is OK. MyFantasyLeague isn't that great IMO. I don't care too much for their layout.

RTSports is the way to go. Very user friendly, cheaper than most, not a lot of frills, but has it where it counts. Updates every 30 secs. depth chart info, up to date info on players, links to local beat writers and pretty customizable. We just got ours for our money league $72. You can't beat it.

I have rarely ever had to use customer support for CBS in the last 6 or so years that I have been using it.

 

It costs each owner about 10 bucks a piece but it is worth it.

 

Live scoring is immediate, sometimes as quick as it take you to turn from the TV to the computer.

 

It has never been down for me either.

 

You put the scoring system and rules in, then sit back and never have to touch it again until next year.

The live draft worked pretty good last year. From the commish's standpoint, they give lots of options. There's even audio that announces the pick made which is pretty convenient for a league that has some drafting online and some offline like mine does.

 

Scoring updates are pretty good. I seem to recall a couple of minor hiccups week 1 last year, but that got taken care of quickly.

 

MyFantasyLeague isn't that great IMO. I don't care too much for their layout.

 

What don't you like about it? Pretty much everything is customizeable, so I find it hard to believe that you couldn't get it set up to your liking.

Once in 5 years did I ever have a problem. Site is very stable on Sunday for live scoring. Live draft works well for me. You can set up a league now at no cost and check out the latest new and updates. It has always been good for me.

Not that I hate FanBall since I have never used it but I was looking at their site recently and noticed that on their forum the league owners had a list of over 120 items they would like to see FanBall upgrade.

 

Of those 120+ items, RTS already had (some for a while) about 40 or 50 of them. Another 15 or 20 were recently upgraded at RTS. Some of the others were supposedly in the works at RTS. Some were very minor changes that would be nice for very few people.

 

So what does that mean? As far as I can see RTS is ahead of FanBall in their site development. That isn't to say FanBall is a bad site but I am glad I use RTS.

Fanball's forums were littered with complaints last year. I would be surprised if anbody suggested them. I don't think they ever got their live scoring to work last year.

We've used Fanball for 3 years now. Maybe 3 times last year (early in the year) Live Scoring went down but all one had to do is F6 it and it was right back. We have no complaints. I really like the fact that it saves all historical info back to league inception. For $60/yr, the price is definately right.

Can only vouch for CBS as its what Ive used now for 5 years.

 

Pros:

Live Updates are pretty much up to the minute.

Fairly flexible in scoring and league setup.

Free Draft Kit helps on draft day if you host an IRL draft.

Customizable stats downloads

Makes league communications easy with league emails, commissioner messages and message board.

Tracks finances for free agency if you use it.

 

Cons:

Expensive

Specific Stats reports can be difficult to generate

Stat downloads to excel need formatting

Lacks a few scoring features that I'd like.

 

I run a 14 team league so the cost is under $10 per player, that helps. The guys love the up to date scoring and I've never had a problem with the site being down. I have an occassional problem (twice in 5 years) with the site not recoginizing an owners computer but that has always been resolved within a matter of a day or two.
