esoitl 0 Posted July 28, 2006 i wouldnt say any mag is actually worth buying i get more info from the interweb(here and KFFL which mostly gets posted here anyways) that a mag is just a craptastic regurgitation of facts that i have read a thousand times for free, yet still costs 7-10$
Headslap75 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I bought a mag too...It's called Swank and I get it just for the articles

49ER MAN 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I buy a few a year as I'm looking for mags which have auction values that are close to a $200 cap with 12 teams. It's amazing how few magazines have auction values.
football is life 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I decided to buy the one at www.footballdocs.com this year. So far no complaints here. Came with draft software and customer service is over the top. Best part of all, it is updated every week. Simply login, download, and printout. Done. So far they have delivered on updates and are 4/4 on updates each week for the month of July. I HATE getting dated content. HATE IT. With LeCharles Bentley going down in Cleveland today, Droughns value will take a hit. Nothing like reading an outdated mag that already went to press. Like the idea of a mag when away from cpu or about to fall asleep at night with some nightime reading, but hate filling my brain with outdated junk. Why don't more "mags" offer updated online versions like www.footballdocs.com? After all, it is the 21st century. FFtoday should come out with something similar. I would buy it. phillybear 366 Posted July 28, 2006 haha i used too get that too, but it stopped coming .............. My renewal bill came in. 10 bucks for another year and a half. They have me hooked. Check is in the mail.
Watchdog 0 Posted July 28, 2006 The magazines are valuable for entertainment purposes. As bathroom reading goes, they beat my wife's Marie Claires.A lso, if you know that any of your league opponents will be using them, it can give you some insight into how they might pick. Most of the mags have the players rated fairly close together except for a few players here and there. Except for one. I don't remember the name of it, but I think it had Payton Manning on the cover. Brett Favre was #3 on their list of QBs! And no, this wasn't a magazine from 1999...

U Dub 0 Posted July 28, 2006 thanks philly. i'll look in to it. do any of you guys take your laptop to the draft to use the compiler/DB or any online sites?
ExtremeFajita 0 Posted July 28, 2006 If I recall correctly FF Index claimed that Tatum Bell was the key to your draft last year. I remember him going in the 1st round in a couple leagues and wondering what planet these owners were from. I pick up one for bathroom reading (usually FootballGuys), but the content on this site is far more useful and the writers here back up their ideas with hard core stats and common sense. Half the posters in these forums could write better content and rank players more accurately than most of the mags out there.
akareckas 0 Posted July 28, 2006 The Fanball mag has more cowbell. Ha ha ha ha ha. That's the one I bought and found it pretty funny. Worth reading just for the jokes and the trashtalk between the Editor and the contributors. Whatsmore, it has an interesting format in that it shows the rankings of about a dozen people and then lists the consensus position rankings so you can get a feel for deviation. All in all though, too much changes too quickly for it to be really useful. I use it to start the wheels turning and make sure that I don't completely forget about one critical player or another. wicked joe 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Picked up FF Index also. I can't drag my computer into the crapper so I need something to read. Did the same thing when the very first mags hit the stands a month ago. I decided to buy the one at www.footballdocs.com this year. So far no complaints here. I love my weekly update. I bought a mag too...It's called Swank and I get it just for the articles NICE POST!
CookieG 4 Posted July 28, 2006 Ditto -- I get FF Index every season for throne room entertainment and i think they do a couple things well.. e.g. They actually have an offensive line ranking this year. Course, you gotta make notes in it and have a couple online "real time" sources. All-in-all i think its one of the better ones out there -- They're starting to include little auction tidbits every year and they seperate PPR cheat sheets from TD only. The real skill in preparing for your draft/auction is tailoring all the info. you get and generating your own, easy to use/read spreadsheet on Excel. I love my auction to death now.. so much easier with a great value sheet and notes on possible player combinations. Some guys in my league are still so pressed for time that they come in with little more than 2 geek mags -- Suprise they don't have the best drafts. The dated mags are what they are -- they can a useful source.. just upgrade and downgrade stuff as news breaks and you'll be in good shape. Of course if their info. sux completely, don't buy it.
