Westbrook questionable

Recommended Posts

CBS SPORTSLINE News:

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook missed practice Wednesday because of a sore knee and is questionable for the Week 3 game at the 49ers. Westbrook missed practice last week because of swelling in his knee, but did play in Philadelphia's loss to the New York Giants in overtime.

Guess it's gonna be weekly thing

Yeah, it suck$, but when drafting BWB, I assume he'll only play 12 games....he's still worth it, IMO. I already have CBuck as handcuff, but given his injury history, I'm thinking of dropping David Givens & getting Moats too...figure I might as well lock up the RB position in that potent offense, and Givens won't be getting of my bench anytime soon...

After week 1, I offered Frank Gore to the owners of Westbrook and Cadillac. Both turned me down flat.

I'm beginning to think they'll regret that decision by mid-season.

any actual chance westbrook doesn't play this week?!?

I NEED that bad!!! I have LJ; bledsoe and whitten on a bye this week and could desperately use my super-sleepper backup buckhalter to get the start to plug him into my flex spot.

I have Buckhalter as the handcuff but I'm not quite sure that if Westbrook doesn't play that Moats doesn't come in and take over his role. Granted Buckhalter's role would be increased but Moats would take Westbrooks place. I live outside Philly and am an Eagles fan so I pay pretty close attention and I'm pretty sure that's the way it would go down. I just can't bring myself to use 2 roster spots on handcuffs for one guy that may end up in a RBBC.

I drafted Westbrook and expected this...so I traded him this week (I traded him and D. Mason for Tatum Bell and Steve Smith)...Now I'm just hoping Steve Smith comes back sooner rather than later... :dunno:

It'll be the same as last week and probably most of the season. I'm assuming it is just swelling due to some contact he got and not because there is something wrong with the knee that will need to be repaired. He didn't get hit too hard in the Giants game so he should be better this week than last. I fully expect him to start and rip up the 49ers. They will have him miss practice time so that he stays fresh and doesn't suffer any setbacks. Let's face it - if he plays like he did against the Giants I wouldn't have him practice until the two days before the game even when healthy.

My thoughts exactly. Unless he is listed as doubtful or out, I'm going to assume he's playing. He'll probably miss some time, so watch for it, but this is likely how it will be all season.

He's a solid FF starter when playing, no doubt about that.

last week when westbrook sat out: did he sit out EVERY practice or at least practice the last one?

that would at least give us SOME indication if he will play sun.

While I don't know about them owning the Eagles this game is certainly not the gimme it appeared to be before the season began. Especially considering the emotional loss to giants.

Westy is going to crush it this week. 200 all purpose yards and 2 TD's.

Niner LB's and safetys cannot begin to handle his speed.

Don't worry about this injury yet, Westy does not need to practice as he is a vet in this offense.

Swelling and inflammation are not that unusual and Philly is being very cautious with their meal ticket.

Now is not the time to trade Westbrook either.

His value will be higher in a few weeks. He plays the 49ers, GB in the next 2. I might trade him there or after the next 2 games DAL, and NO. After that he has a tougher run schedule with the only "easy" matchup being Tennessee. He will still get points but I think if he is going to get injured it will be in the last half of the year. I plan on moving him while his stock is high and I've received the points from his easiest rushing games.

Doubt it. They are gonna take out their frustration big time on the Niners. If they don't then this team is 6-10.

Westrook was on Sirius NFL radio today, sounded like nothing more than a precautionary move so that he's ready to go on Sunday. He also said the Eagles would be flying out on Friday to have a day to get used to the time change etc.

Well you knew it would be this way after the last 2 weeks. Dont even give it a thought untill he is doubtfull or out. He is playing great so who cares if he is at practice..what are we talking about? Practice? See My sig..

"It's not getting worse. It is sore, though," Reid said. "We need to rest him and rehab him right now."

Sounds like a weekly precautionary thing. At least it's not getting worse.

As the second most dangerous and important offensive threat on the Eagles after McNabb - and he's not that far behind - I think Westbrook is at a point in his career where he doaesn't need to practice to play on Sunday. Better to let him rest during the week.

I also agree with others that Moats would play a big role if Westbrook were out, regardless of the fact that Buckhalter is listed as the #2. He's a Westbrook type back and the Eagles offense depends on having that type of back on the field for at least 2/3 of their offensive plays.

Last year, Greg Jones was listed as the starting FB for the Jaguars and (insert rotating scrub name here) was listed as the #2...but when Fred Taylor went down, Jones became the #1. Those depth charts don't always mean all that much.

I've owned Westbrook in the past - three seasons, in fact. For two of those seasons I often found myself having to keep two other Philly backs on my roster because I really didn't know who would get the most carries if Westbrook went down. Westy is a great back when healthy, especially in ppr leagues, and I would have drafted him this year had he fallen to me, but in addition to the frustration knowing he'll likely miss at least 2 games a season (or more), you also have to deal with uncertainty regarding his backup and the likelihood that if he does go down, you'll be looking at an RBBC situation.

Probally plays , as a Westbrook owner no matter what if he plays you put him in. I said it last week, the guy is Marshal Faulk in Fred Taylors body. In a PPR league he is the #4 fantasy back after the big three if he does not get hurt so often but because of that he was there in the 4th round of our draft where I got him .

Still I will stick with Westbrook becasue when he is in there he is fantasy gold. I think he is the #3 back in our league right now. cant beat that in the 4th round.

So what gives here what is really causing that knee to swell.... Is he really injured or is this a ploy no tto practice...... If indeed his knee is swelling than there must be soemthign wrong with that knee that can eventually shut him down like it did to dom davis..

From Stats Inc via Yahoo:

Sep 20 Westbrook sat out Philadelphia's practice on Wednesday with a sore knee and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against San Francisco. The running back missed practice all last week because of swelling in his knee, but still played against the New York Giants, posting 124 total yards and a touchdown. He also fumbled once.

Advice: This sounds like it could be a nagging problem all season. Westbrook might skip practice each week to rest the knee, but will probably try to play against the 49ers. He was effective against the Giants and could post similar numbers against the 49ers.

Focking great...looks like he'll be perpetually questionable. I screwed myself last week sitting Edge in favor of Westbrook...now I have the same agonizing decision to make week in and week out!
