They're into like the 3rd wave of plasma tech apparently... I remember reading up on it for several weeks before I bought... but now of course my brain hath dumped all that stuff. Big_Pete 0 Posted November 24, 2006 Plasma TV's have the longest life expectancy out of all the TV Technolgies. Roughly 60,000 hours (or 8 hours a day for 20 years). I believe tube tv's have like 45,000 hours, and DLP/LCD have roughly 50,000-60,000. Naturally makers of the tv's do weigh heavily into this. Think about it for a second. Sony/Panasonic/Pioneer didn't wake up one day and say "hey, lets charge 5x more for our stuff than sanyo"... I've worked in high end electronic shops, and was poised to be the sony rep for the midwest (damn, I chose to open my own lingerie store istead ). So I can tell you with 100% confidence that top of the line manufacturers use better parts. Alot of these walmart specials and other store's $1000 plasma tv's are made with rejected.. yes, REJECTED parts from bigger companies such as Sony/Samsung/Pioneer etc... so basically you are buying rejected TV's. And before wannabe know-it-alls chime in, there are more than 1-2 manufacurers of plasma screens. Almost all big companies make their own screens these days. Yes, 8 years ago they were made by mostly NEC etc... but these days, pretty much all major brands make their own! so yes, brand does matter! good luck with your $1000 paper weight in about 2 years! (if it makes it that long)

Well so " might " any other TV you buy as well. I actually didn't buy the sayno it was somehting else -- it was like 980 dollars. I got a 52 in in my family room this was just for the bedroom so greatest name brand wasn't really essential. and actually there wasn't a line at least at the store in Portage ( NW IN ) I justb walked right up got that and a few mobile DVD players for the kiddies -- spent about 20 minutes on the way to office. I think if you buy a Sony , Pioneer etc you can expect a 15 - 20 year TV If you buy a POS shiat Like i did I think maybe a 3 - 5 year span of solid qaulity then maybe a year or two after that if lucky. Unless you are one of the lucky 40% Wow... that's a pretty bold statement. You would think with a 60% failure rate there would be some sort of report?? That sounds like utter bullsh!t. Link? If 60% of these 1k screens failed with-in 1 year it would be focking ALL over the internet. Lets see some documentation to back up that silly focking statement. Big_Pete 0 Posted November 25, 2006 I'd copy/paste the email(s), but you guys would probably spam the fock out of him... so out of respect, I wont! He doesn't work there anymore (again, was moving on and recommended me to replace him) but not sure if he's still required to check emails for a bit or not! And I own my store, not a manager somewhere. Oh, and not internship, I was gonna be the sony rep for stores such as BB/CC/Ultimate
