Sirius Satallite Radio

Recommended Posts

$12.00 per month x 12 months = $144.00

Connection Fee = $25.00

Florida Tax = $16.00

Sirius Car Reciever = $119.00* (after rebate)

Sirius Boombox = $99.99*

* Sales tax not included

..................................................................................................

Total = $403.99 for one year of radio. Additional $144 for each year after.

If you don't want to hear any static from Sirius in your car, you need to buy an adaptor to hard wire Sirius to your radio and then figure out how to do it or pay someone else to do it. Also, you need to do something with the Sirius antena and power wires in your car. The music is commercial free, but ALL other channels have non-stop commercials. Approximately 75% of the stations are not used by most subscribers, including spanish stations, crappy music genres, kid stations, traffic stations in cities you've never been to, etc...

Merry Christmas!!!

I think that you paid a little too much (connection fee, receiver). I just signed up for my second year and I was happy to do it. I listen to it a lot. I feel that I have received my money's worth.

BTW - every one of your complaints is valid, but it is the exact same as cable TV. Do you have cable TV as well?

I got it for Christmas with a 1 year subscirption, so I haven't payed anything myself ... yet. If it wasn't a gift, I never would have gotten it. That's just way too expensive for one year's worth of radio. Funny how they advertise "$12 per month" to make it sound a lot cheaper than it really is.

So far I like the sports stations, classic radio, comedy, and few others, but I couldn't recomend Sirius to anyone. Personally, I don't think it's worth it.

(yes i have cable tv, but I spend a lot more time watching tv than I do listening to radio - plus the reception quality of cable is much better than standard tv. It's the oppisite with Sirius)

Check your connections. I get good reception unless I am using the boom box in certain areas. You just have to determine where to place the antenna to get good reception. It took me a week or two to figure it out in various rooms in the house. Once you have that figured out, your reception issues will be gone.

It may not be worth it to you, but I like satellite radio in the morning as I am getting ready for work, driving to work, and coming home from work. That is a good 2-3 hours a day that I get use out of it.

I don't know about sirius but the reception with XM is much better than regular radio. Also $220 for a receiver and boombox is a lot. I got my receiver and boombox together for $100. I say it's totally worth it.

Uh, oh. I agree with Gutterboy. Cats are going to be sleeping with dogs in no time.

The boombox reception is fine. It's the reception in the car that has a little static. It doesn't bother me too much because I'm only listening to talk radio, but it probably bothers people who listen to the music stations.

I don't really know what my g/f paid for the boombox and reciever. I looked them up on-line and those were the prices shown by RadioShack.

She probably did not pay those prices. If she did, then it is like paying sticker on a new car.

As far as your reception goes, I am assuming that you are using the FM transmitter. If so, use a different frequency since that "static" is the radio station using that frequency interfering with your transmitter. Find a frequency/station with nothing but static coming from it. Bear in mind that the bottom of the dial can be housing stations like NPR and other local stations that will interfere.

Yeah, I've tinkered with FM transmitter a bit looking for statsion that aren't interfered with. The static isn't that bad, I was just pointing out that it isn't perfect. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I've got Sirius and so far I've enjoyed it. But I wouldn't recomend anyone go out and buy Sirius for themselves.

Since it's new, I keep finding new stations that I like... like "classic radio" which I found yesterday that plays old radio shows. The Playboy station is interesting (made my g/f listen to the porn star talk about her wet putty). Obviously, the sports and comedy stations are good too. And it was nice to hear Stern's voice after 2 years off the air. Lots of good stuff - just kinda expensive.

Give it a month and then decide whether it is worth it.

He got a year subscription with it, so I suggest he gives it 12 months. But that's just me.

:D :P

Anyone have HD radio? :D

Mine is just the opposite, the car sounds great but I can't get a good signal for the boombox even with the focking antenna in the window.

I just purchased a new Starmate Sirius radio for my car. Total cost after rebate: $49.00. I pay $9.99 per month because I pay for the full year subscription up-front. What is greta about the starmate receiver is that one can pause, rewind and fast forward the radio. I leave my car to visit a customer but I leave the receiver on, when I return I can rewind and listen to anything that was missed.

I had some trouble with static until I realized I had my antenna wire touching metal. Once I moved it away from the metal I have had perfect reception.
