Shula is mad, Saban is a douche

Recommended Posts

Don felt like Bama gave Mike Shula a raw deal, which in all fairness, he didn't get a fair shake. Now they go and "steal" the coach of Don's Dolphins. I think Don Shula is so pizzed at the entire Saban situation that he may come out of retirement and coach the team himself.

I'm telling you.....Mike Shula is gonna get the job.

Quote on Sportcenter by Don Shula . . .

"In two years here he was 15-17. I don't think that will be any great loss."

and Mike Shula will not be the next coach for the Dolphins IMO.

I don't really think Mike Shula will be the next coach either.

I think they'll go with Mike Sherman. I think it will be a guy who has been an NFL coach before.

Agreed.

Cameron is coming in for an interview on Saturday and they are also looking at Rivera.

Did you hear Shula this morning just tear into Satan. .....

I loved it!

He is right Dolphins are better off. No reflection on what he may or may not do in Alabama.

I think Rivera is going to be an excellent head coach. I see him being a coach that will have exciting teams. Opportunistic defenses and explosive offenses. The Cards would be a decent fit, but I think if Norm Chow wants that job....he'll get i.

There are plenty of good coachiung candidates for the Miami job, and Saban's smirk and overall assholishness won't play well for long in Alabama. It's not often I wish a guy failure, especially a guy leaving and going to teams that I couldn't care less about. But I hope he falls flat on his face.

Why is everyone ripping on Saban. Yeah, he lied...but what was he supposed to say. Yes he could have said that he will wait until the end of the season to discuss...then everyone would say he shouldn't be talking about it during the season.

How could you turn down 32 million guaranteed. With chances to make in excess of $500k from bowl games yearly. He probably would have been fired in 2 years in Miami. Sure, I don't like the guy...and wish he could have handled it a little better. But, this isn't the first time a coach has left!!!

Money isn't the issue. He could/would have made more if he would have stayed with the Phins.

He was a failure as an NFL coach and rather than try and make it work, he bailed. Like I said before. He should have manned up and been at the press conference with Wayne. Stand in front of the media, the same media that you lied to, and explain yourself. Instead, all we see is him getting into a plane and leaving for the safety of the "Saban is our savior" media in Alabama, where he won't get the hard questions.

I don't blame him for leaving.....it's his perogative to do what he wants to do, but be a man about it. He lied and then tucked his tail between his legs and got out of town before the news even became official. In his two years he made the organization worse than it was when he arrived. The entire Saban experience was a complete failure and now the next coach must clean up his mess and rebuild at the same time.

Fock off Saban.

I just want to say that Nick Saban is a ###### and I wish him nothing but misery and failure in Alabama. He turned his back on the dolphins and instead of trying to make things better, he bailed.

He is a coward. Period

This press conference is a joke!

He feels as though he left Miami in a much better state than when he arrived.

He left them with a lower salary cap and all there draft picks?! HUH, I think he forgot he gave up a third for CPepp and a sixth for Harrington?!

He's full of excuses. He's a d!ck and I hope Auburn beats them by 50!

Coaches leave all the time, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone the right to a better job. But you can't handle it much worse than Saban did. "I won't even address talk of any job during the season", "It's flattering to be considered, but I owe it to my team and employer to focus all my energies on the Fins"...these are just paraphrasing the hundreds of options he had. Instead, he chose "No. I won't be the caoch at Alabama." Even after that, he had a chance to save face in my eyes. "I didn't plan on making this move, but I love football...college or pro...and that's the kind of offer that comes around once in a lifetime." Instead, he had the nads to say "It's not about the money." IT IS. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, AND IT'S OK. Just admit it. Don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining

Do you really expect him to be truthful in the media? He has to play the game.

i'm not sure what's so surprising. it's like fans acting shocked and mad when larry brown annually signs a 5-year contract somewhere and then bolts after a year.

saban is who he is. you knew that going in: he stiffed michigan state for lsu, and then stiffed lsu for miami, and now he's stiffed miami for alabama. next up to get stiffed: alabama for______________. he's sure as rain, folks.

and this is surprising...how? you should only get mad if you were foolish enough to not see it coming. and there was no way you shouldn't have seen it coming, so there's no reason to be upset.

The anti-Shula bails out as a greasy, dishonorable coward

BY DAN LE BATARD

dlebatard@MiamiHerald.com

Angry and embarrassed, Don Shula descended from the high ground where he almost always resides, the king shamed by the slick court jester who had soiled his throne.

''He has run away from the challenge,'' Shula said of Nick Saban.

A liar?

''It's unbelievable,'' Shula said. ``There were four or five direct statements that were blatant lies. That tells you a little bit about the guy.''

Quitter?

''That's obvious,'' Shula said. ``He quit. He left.''

A raging fraud?

''What other conclusion can you draw?'' Shula said. ``The guy likes to hear himself talk and then doesn't follow up on what he says.''

If someone came into your workplace and offered you 8 years of guaranteed employment AND AN ENORMOUS SALARY, GUARANTEED, what would people do in that instance?

He played the Dolphins to ultimately get what he wanted. It's business. I don't get why people are so up in arms over this.

What if Saban stayed, Huzienga sells the team, and new ownership takes over and decides to fire the HC? What if the Dolphins sh!t the bed again next season, and the team decides to fire Saban?

He lied in the media. BFD. You mean to tell me that GMs, coaches, and owners don't do it? Hell, media types do it all the time.

Shula has a right to be upset, but c'mon, get real already.

true....

there is hardly any loyalty in professional football. non-guaranteed contracts. losing your starting job due to injury....yes it does happen....see what warner did to trent green or brady did to bledsoe, etc.... and team ownership that does not let coaches coach until their contracts expire if the team should continue to lose games.

if saban came back next season and they went 3 and something there would have been people in miami fans and media alike calling for his head. the owner would have probably stuck it out with him. but as the years go on, even that relationship could develop frays.

he did what was best for him and his family. it was not too honorable to those outside of the saban household due to the chronological order of the events that took place over the past several days.....but it is something that 90% of anyone else in his shoes more than likely would have done.

how many people can turn down that much guaranteed money if they have never been in that tax bracket before?

Saban is who we thought he was.

Sure, he's running from the Dolphins job and did a *fantastic* job turning them into a contender there, but I'm not gonna hate on the guy for chasing that kind of scratch. But yeah, he's a douche for trying to spin it into something other than being about money. Just nut up and admit it.

Saban is a douche regardless. The man is just an ######, in front of, AND off camera. Dude treats his own employees like ######, to the point that some Fins players hated him. I for one am glad he walked, but he is still a douche for handling it the way he did.

Someone here gets it. :ninja: I just don't get the constant :D from some of my fellow Fish fans over this.

As a Dolphins fan, I'm sorry to see him go, and I think he probably handled the situation about as badly as it could have been handled. That said, there is NO loyalty in the NFL, and like the previous poster stated, he'd have been out on his ass if the team sucked next year and, let's be honest, there is every indication that it will (C-pep, Joey, Miss Cleo Lemon, choose yer bum). Not only that, the guy clearly did not want to be there, you could tell by his reactions during the press conferences each week. I don't want him in Miami if he doesn't want to be there. The team will be fine without him.

As an Alabama fan, I'm obviously THRILLED to have him. I fully expect him to return the team to national prominence, even if he DOES leave in 4 years. He's coming into a great situation (9 returning starters on offense) and he's a proven winner on the collegiate level, where he truly wants to be.

As for Don Shula, I'll always respect the man but he's definitely lost a bit of that respect with his recent comments. He of all people should know how the coaching profession works...one of the reasons he was forced out at Miami was his refusal to get rid of Tom Olividotti; his son was canned, in part, for his refusal to rid his staff of clueless neophytes. I can understand him wanting to protect his son, but his son was a huge disappointment and simply did not get the job done (26-23 over 4 years doesn't cut it at Bama, Don. Sorry...you HAD to expect it...Miami just fired Larry Coker and he went 60-15 there over 6 years right down the street from you FFS). He's a coaching legend and should be above such pettiness.

I seem to remember when Fins Fans chanted "Jimmy Jimmy" (as in Johnson) as Shula walked off the field.

You can't have it both ways Fins Fans. You get angry and want to run legends out of town - than you get angry when coaches leave on their own.

I can't remember ever seeing a more smug, condescending asspipe. I'm shocked that we haven't heard of any PJ Carlisimo-type attacks on him yet. If he deals with his players the way it appears he treats everyone when he's on tv, I'd be hard-pressed not to smack the little b!tch if I played for him.

As far as the job change itself, I don't see how it's any different than the dozens of other guys who do the same thing every year.

It's pretty simple. Watch how Bill Cowher steps down today and you will see how to step down from a coaching job with class and integrity.

<_<

Maybe he'll even have the balls to face his team and his coaches and tell them that's he's quitting.

Lets look at it from a different perspective:

Lets say you owned a business and you hired a guy to come in and run your business. When you hired him you gave him complete control! You even let him have access to your private plane. Well, he does a pretty good job the first year and the second year some bad things happen, but none the less, you still have a shot to have a profitable year (playoffs).

Well all of a sudden you start hearing rumors that another business is trying to get this guy. He totally denies that it is true yet your business goes in the toilet (Saban lost his last three games, and missed playoffs) in the final weeks of him running it.....about the same time the rumors started.

Now after he failed to improve your business he says, well, I'm gonna take that other job. All those people that I hired at a pretty good price tag....deal with it. Oh, and those stocks (draft picks) I traded that are so valuable....deal with it. In fact, I'm not even going to address our employees or the media.....deal with it.

I'm going to go to this other business and tell them how important character and integrity is.

Wayne invested alot in Saban and I don't think Saban gave him an honest effort. He didn't let the team know he was leaving. He didn't have a press conference to clarify why he was leaving. If he would have had a press conference in Miami he could have saved some integrity. But, to leave Wayne deal with it by himself was very unprofessional.

At his press conference in Bama, Saban blamed Wayne "I never wanted to coach the Dolphins in the first place". Wayne twisted his arm? Threatened to kick his azz if he didn't come to Miami? That was a bullchit statement by Saban.

He totally mishandled the entire situation. He talks a good talk.....but don't walk the walk!

I'm a Fins fan and I live in Miami. I could care less about Saban leaving -- he wasn't well-liked. However, since November all of us living in South Florida have been subjected to countless video clips of Saban not just denying he was considering the Alabama job, but also nastily telling off reporters with smarmy comments like, "That's a dumb question" or "I've already answered that" or "How many times I am going to have to tell you that's not true! Are you stupid?" (disclaimer - not literal quotes, I am paraphrasing).

The problem wasn't that Saban left, or even issued denials about his interest in Alabama. Saban spent two months calling people retards for asking the question; then all of a sudden he quits and accepts the Alabama job.

That's why the South Florida press is up in arms about Saban's duplicity. In a week's time, all of this will be forgotten nationwide... but as long as Saban lives he'll be considered a weasel in Miami.
