Kids kicked off a bus for speaking English

Imagine sending your kids off to school, but when they get to the bus they are told they can't get on because they speak English.

That's right, English.

It happened to a few children in St. Paul and now the school district is apologizing.

Rachel Armstrong sent her kids to pick up the bus as usual Monday, but after the driver let the kids on, he told them he would not pick them up again. He even said he wouldn't take them home that afternoon.

Armstrong left work early Tuesday, forced to pick up her kids from Phalen Lake Elementary School.

Her twin girls, 10, and her son, 8, were kicked off their regular school bus. They were told by the bus driver the route is for non-English speaking students only.

"I was furious. I was at work and I was just mad." Armstrong said. "I felt like we were being discriminated because we speak English. Just because they speak English, they can't ride the school bus. I mean, this is America, right?"

Administrators at St. Paul Public Schools admit the district made a mistake when it stranded the kids at school Monday.

However, the district points out, that particular bus route serves one of three language academies. The one at Phalen Lake is for Hmong students learning English.

The academies all have separate bus routes to keep its students together.

The district decided to enforce the separate routes beginning Monday, but it did not tell the Armstrong family.

"It is our responsibility to ensure the safety of these kids and we made a mistake. The kids should have gotten home that day," Dayna Kennedy, public relations representative.

The district also discovered the Armstrongs no longer live in the Phalen Lake School boundary because they moved last year.

So even thought the district apologized, if they want to still go to Phalen, they are going to have to get their own ride.

My take on all of this...

The school was definitely at fault for not alerting the parents to the changes to the bus routes.

The bus driver is a jackass. If there was a problem, alert the school officals so they can contact the parents. Don't sit there and take it up w/10 and 8 yr old children. Then again, he's a focking bus driver, not a founding member of MENSA.

The parents are at fault for trying to pull a fast one on the school, as the family had moved outside of the school's territory, so they shouldn't have been riding the bus anyway.

As for the assertion that diveristy is killing this country...

As I've pointed out in other threads, it's not diversity that's the problem, it's the attitude of multiculturalism that accompanies it.

Why the fock do they have specific language speaking routes in the first place? The idea that we need to or should do that is at the heart of what is fundamentally wrong with these overblown attempts to make sure everyone feels all rosey inside. Ive ridden the bus with various ethnicities and as far as i know we are all still alive and better for it.

Bo/Boz, I think you just need to give up on this one.

I read the same headline on Drudge that you did and was all pissed and ready to post a thread about it.

Then I read the article.

Obviously English is your second language.

And actually, I'm pretty happy right now, thank you very much.

Is that the first step in exterminating white people? I still can't get over that guys comments. I wish i could believe in my own lil fantasy world and be compeletly out of touch with reality like that guy. I'm sure life would be much more entertaining.

But as for this topic, i don't care if people want to hold on to their culture or not but the American society shouldn't cater to them so much. I can't really comment on this situation because i don't know the whole story behind having different language schools but i do think we go overboard on equality things. Like that judge that ordered the xmas tree be removed from the gov't building. Thats stupid. That doesn't provide real equality.

Just another story re-affirming that some of the dumbest focking people in the world work in education. What is this? Like the 1,000 story in a year showing school employees employing absolutely no common sense.
