Commentary Rounds 16-20

Recommended Posts

Hey Zap, you have me as taking Barton twice... I was a bit :shocking: when I saw you take Barton over my #1 player in round 17, then a bit :wall: when I saw you take Barton again in the 18th...

Edit: And... -40-

Grigs he gave you Brunell in the previous round, not sure why he put Barton on the list though.

Also Zap, I am off for the night, when my pick comes up, take the WR that was on my list.

Yeah, I saw that. I initially looked only at the lists though.

I wanted Barton. He would have completed my LBs. So, I was a little, :wall: , myself.

I don't see much happening tonight. I proxied for Butcher because, as you see, I had a whole round of picks ready to come back to him. They were almost all right off the top of lists, which is much better than being on the bottom of a list, using it for the third time. I'm approaching that scenario on a couple lists, and I'd rather just wait. We've got this thing wrapped up by Tuesday. Way under schedule.

Thanks for the lists. I'll give Butcher time to get home from church, then we'll roll through a few picks. I cannot cover FFKing at the bottom of the round, so maybe I'll wait for him to show.

I was sweating Drew Bennett when I picked up Terry Glenn. These are the kind of picks that I think are worth waiting for, and why I can go 10-12 rounds without even thinking about a 3rd receiver. It's just wise to be first to free agency when "whoever" goes Boldin. And it's really easy to toss Terry Glenn on waivers, too. :pointstosky:

Some of you with 6-7 receivers and 6 backs befuddle me. What are you going to do with all of them? :)

Note: We start 8, that's eight, IDPs. I understand that in July you may feel the need to hoard some offensive potential and vulture D from free agency later, but um... in a mock, there is no free agency later. Show me what you got, at least draft a starter for each slot. No? Whatever. Have fun. I plan on drafting starters and covering their byes, fyi, fwiw, hth.

Anyway, I really like the Bennett pick. I would have taken him without hesitation next. I probably should have taken him before Glenn, but I'm a Cowboy fan, and a Keyshawn doubter. Glenn was instrumental for me every other week last season for about 6 weeks, then McCareins took over the 3 spot. It went well.

Trade em, keep em away from other teams, hope for breakouts/sleepers...

You can never have too much depth at RB, and WRs can break out of nowhere. They are much more valuable than backup IDPs and more valuable than a lot of starting IDPs. I guarentee there would be a lot of FA IDPs better than a lot of IDPs drafted once the season starts.

Yes, Nick Barnett last year I think I got off FA when somebody dumped him. Turned out to be pretty good for me.

There's tone of examples like that from year to year. Guys go undrafted and finish in the top 10 quite often.

True enough and fair enough. We started 5 IDPs here last year, and the most I ever carried was 7 to cover immediate byes and let Claiborne/Holdman heal. But, when you move that up to 8 starters, the dynamics change a little. See MacGregor's Read and React series on the hompage. And I'll bet a half dozen receivers go undrafted who outpoint a half dozen being drafted... or more. Who knows? I still have 23 receivers on my list. LOL

When all is said and done, I'll probably have 6/7 wrs, and 5/6 backs, it just seems odd looking at Blue's (counter-intel) draft and a couple others. I've had my defense carry me several times too. That's why we mock though, huh? Gives us a good idea of what to "possibly" expect later. Bennett was sort of "counter-intel" for me. I could have used him, but I was more interested in seeing when he would go if I didn't take him.

Bingo.

You've got to remember in a mock situation, guys are trying different things, combinations, taking chances, ect. I do 3 or 4 mocks an offseason. More than that just losses the usefulness for me. But the few I do participate in, I like to try very different approaches. That's why I jumped at the chance to be in this mock, because there are so few IDP mocks that I've found good mockers in, and I knew this would be filled with some of the best.

And sometimes, it's just foolish NOT to take a 5th back. When Eddie George was sitting there for me a few rounds ago, I could have drafted some defensive help, but if Eddie is starting and being productive, I've got a great fill-in on Alexanders bye-week when TEN faces a horrible Chargers run defense.

There is always method to the madness... :)

I think the list of receivers that came out free agency was more productive from a value standpoint than the list of IDPs (Boldin excluded). Sure you can field a competitive defense, but deals like Boldin, McCareins late season, Glenn's early-mid season, put up some serious points that separate the values quite a bit. Of course Grigs and others are trying to take them out of FA. Interesting opposed thinking here.

I'll be gone for most of tomorrow afternoon. About noon PST to 3:30/4:30. Just a heads up.

Picking for MacGregor now. He's got a player on his list that sticks out like a sore thumb, so I can safely assume, he'd be happy with the pick. I am bottoming out these lists though.

I must say, my team is focking sick

Team SeaWorld?

Edit: I'll be here until 4pm pst. Then gone to dinner for a couple hours. Butcher has about 4 hours or more, so that little run is probably over for a little while. I'll have it updated before I go. Mmmm... John's Peanut Butter Pizza.

It aint important but people are always looking for a good mock and there is not many good IDP mocks around (believe me, I have looked).

I believe when we're done and MacGregor has it posted on the homepage, it will get stickied on the main board for a day or two. And I agree. IDP mocks are hard to find, and the cheatsheets I've looked at are "all over the place." There's very little agreement after about 5 IDPs at each position.

alot of it depends on scoring. I have seen league with .5 points per tackle nothing for assist or even as high as 2 points per tackle and 1 per assist. 1 league I was in last year, the LB's scored almost as much as some top WR's.

I'll be around all night if you guys can get this back to me. BTW, not to be overconfident but the reason I have not taken too many DP's so far Zap is that imo I am more experienced with IDP leagues than most of the guys here. There are plenty of guys around to still build a top D even if you just start now. Also, this has been the best mock yet, we should keep this group together for an IDP league(Dynasty?). Anybody interested? Good job guys!

League number 12? 13? 14?

I was in 3 last year. I know. I'm a lightweight. One of those was replacing a slot in Geek Squidfinger's league. I have no obligation to return. Then I have a local league and Goid. I won't do more than 3. If you guys want to put one together from this mock, I'd consider it, and most likely be in. Twist my arm and I might fuhner it also. I'll play for small time money, or for free.

Goidpankal is free and has one spot available, btw. If you're interested send me an email. It's not set up identical to this mock, but pretty derned close. IDP redraft, fairly standard rules, no kickers, I'm the defending champ, designed to boot out the bottom five and replace them annually. I screen potential members vigorously.

Doh, leaving for dinner without updating. I'm about a round behind, so check out 18 and 19 before picking. Thanks, you've been great.

I am in 5 neighborhood $ leagues, Goid, Reckless Bacon, Cover Two Dynasty, Transatlantic Dynasty, a couple of CBS Sportsline, and countless Yahoo leagues. I might even be in another FFToday league(Hardballers 2?). My Cover Two Dynasty is the most involved with 32 teams and each player being used twice. This is a deep league but I have one of the top 3 teams imo. Check it out...

Oz is defending champ...I'm gonna beat him this year http://198.65.101.82/2004/options?L=44695&F=0012&O=07

Beating that oz fellow could be rough, how in the hell did he assemble a team like that in a league that deep?

He made some good trades. We can start 4 wrs also.

Hey, I'm back from the weekend. Thanks for following the list Zap. I've been checking in when I could and I think it has gone pretty good. I will re-visit my team needs and take over the picks again, so you can throw out that list.

As much as I'd like to be in a league with you guys, I'm already over my capacity on leagues for this year.
