There are clearly a few at the Washington Post willing to risk all to speak the truth by putting this strong and plainly justified Pelosi rebuke in print. Watch closely now and see if these brave souls are fired, demoted or killed.

How the hell did this ditzy ###### become a representitive of the people?

The same day the women took over that one western state. Or, maybe they were doods...at least they somewhat resembled women, but also men at the same time. That state confuses me.

Glad to see the Washinton Post calling a duck a duck. While I don't mind the Speaker of the House making foreign visits, I have to agree that she screwed up her trip. She doesn't make US foreign policy let alone Israeli policy. And she has no authority to offer olive branches to known thugs.

Engaging Syria is a good idea, having the SotH thinking she should do it is beyond her scope.

Well said. What in the world did she think she was accomplishing?

Looks like these Congress persons claim they had the interests of their country in mind: :dunno:

Republican delegate says Pelosi visit successful, despite critics

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. David Hobson on Wednesday rebuffed Bush administration criticism of his trip to Syria with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying she has reinforced Bush administration policies in the region and possibly made progress toward peace in the Middle East.

Hobson of Springfield, the lone Republican on a seven-member tour of the Middle East led by Pelosi, D-San Francisco, said the speaker strongly reinforced Bush policy on Syria, urging Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to work to lessen the influence of terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah in the region, to stop the influx of suicide bombers into Iraq from Syria and to "not fall into the trap of being dominated by Iran." Though the administration does not currently talk to Syria, Hobson said the delegation was adamant in urging Assad to support administration policy in the Middle East.

"I think we played a useful role," Hobson said in a phone call from Saudi Arabia. "We reinforced the administration's positions and at the same time we were trying to understand and maybe getting some voice to some things people wanted to say that maybe they were not comfortable saying to the administration. The jury's out ... but this was not an anti-administration trip at all."

Hobson, who has been generally supportive of the war in Iraq, said the war was not the subject of discussions in countries that also included Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Israel.

from the AP:

Three Republican congressmen who parted with President Bush by meeting with Syrian leaders said Wednesday it is important to maintain a dialogue with a country the White House says sponsors terrorism. "I don't care what the administration says on this. You've got to do what you think is in the best interest of your country," said Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va. "I want us to be successful in Iraq. I want us to clamp down on Hezbollah."

..."This is an area where we would disagree with the administration," (Rep. Robert) Aderholt (of Alabama) said. "None of us in the Congress work for the president. We have to cast our own votes and ultimately answer to our own constituents. ... I think there's room that we can try to work with them as long as they know where we draw the line
