KSB2424 3,180 Posted June 19, 2007 From an interview back in 2004 about what he thinks will happen with Kobe and the Lakers post Shaq. It is remarkable how accurate Ray Allen turned out to be. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/195189_sonx14.html He's going to be very selfish," Allen said of Bryant, who scored 15 of his team's first 20 points and had 35 points in Tuesday's loss. "And he feels like he needs to show this league and the people in this country that he is better without Shaq. He can win championships without Shaq. So offensively, he's going to jump out and say, 'I can average 30 points. I can still carry the load on this team.' "I think the point production is not going to be so much what people are going to look at because (Tracy) McGrady did it in Orlando, Allen (Iverson) did it in Philly. Can you win a championship? I think that's the question. Carrying guys on your back and making everybody better." Can Bryant do that? "He has the talent, he can do it," Allen said. "But is his attitude going to allow him to take a back seat and let Lamar Odom shine and let Caron Butler have his nights and bring those big guys along with him?" Allen said Bryant's ability and willingness to incorporate others will be the gauge for the Lakers' success. Bryant was re-signed for seven years at more than $130 million this summer. "Kobe doesn't see he needs two and a half good players to be a legitimate playoff contender or win a championship in about a year or two he'll be calling out to Jerry Buss that 'We need some help in here,' or 'Trade me,' " Allen said. "And we'll all be saying, 'I told you so,' when he says that." "I think he talks because he feels like he has to talk," Allen said. "He's out there playing, and if he does something good I feel like he needs to pat himself on the back because to me, it seems like he's isolated out there. As much as it's five-on-five, I don't see much camaraderie going on out there with his teammates."

JT 137 Posted June 19, 2007 Anywhere in there did Ray refer to himself as the 'Paul Pierce of the Western Conference'? If so, I'll be really impressed.

KSB2424 3,180 Posted June 20, 2007 Wow! He pegged the Rapist as a selfish player..............way to go out on a limb. I think it was more that he called EXACTLY the way it played out, Kobe's reaction, as well as close to the same timeframe it would all transpire. However if you would like to dumb it down in a generalization as opposed to looking at the details just to post something, then go right ahead.

Guys scoring average keeps going up, and his team's win total keeps going down.
Vince44 208 Posted June 21, 2007 Ray Allen should play the lead role in any possible Back to the Future remake. The guy must have got in a time machine in 2004 and went to 2007 and came back and made those comments cause he is dead focking on in everything he said. We are talking about Kobe Bean Bryant here though...who is by far the worst leader/teammate among all great NBA players...but still Dr. Allen made a good diagnosis. Not that he was wrong about Kobe, but it's kind of ironic Ray Allen making these comments about someone else. Guys scoring average keeps going up, and his team's win total keeps going down. The following season after Ray Allen made those comments the Sonics went 52-30 and took the Spurs to 6 in the West Semifinals. That same year Kobe Bean Bryant in his first year as the man lead the Lakers to a 34-48 season and a spot in the lottery. I don't wanna hear anything about how Allen had more help than Bryant cause the Seattle Big 3 of Allen, Lewis, and Vlad were nowhere near as good as the Bryant, Odom, and Butler trio. The Sonics have at least done something on Allen's watch...what exactly in terms of team success has Bryant done for LA as the man?
