Rattlesnake 0 Posted June 20, 2007 This makes me sick to my stomach. http://sports.espn.go.com/MLB/news/story?id=2910079 670 out of Chicago is saying it's Barrett for Bowen and Linebrink. ESPN is saying it's Bowen, a minor leaguer, and cash. Either way, it's fucking ignorant and it's a virtual white flag........but it had sure as hell better at least include Linebrink. Edited - San Diego media is saying it's Bowen and some minor league outfielder. Unbelievable. Apparently the minor league OF in the deal is hitting .211 and this Bowen is approximately a career .250 hitter with marginal power and is slightly better defensively than Barrett. Hey, who wants a catcher who's on pace to hit 30 HR and hitting .290 for his career in Chicago? Oh, apparently the Cubs are the ones giving cash.
NewbieJr 541 Posted June 20, 2007 Catchers are supposed to be tough guys. I bet Barrett wanted out of Chicago. It's pretty embarrassing being the team's catcher and walking into the local dry-cleaners and having everyone whisper that a pitcher whooped your ass. He needs to find a team with a tiny pitching staff.

I like Barrett, too and don't see how this makes any sense for the Cubs either. He must have really been a clubhouse jackass for them to pay to ship him out for pratically nothing in return. He just took a swing at Derrick Lee a few days ago but I guess Barrett is excited to wait for the next bench clearing brawl against the cubs so he can really have at it with the Cubs pitchers

Gave him two black eyes and split his lip open.,
football_scooter 0 Posted June 20, 2007 The funniest thing is that Zamboni might not even be a cub next season. So let me get this straight....pitcher sucks ass the 1st 2 months of the season, takes out his frustrations after getting shelled on his catcher, who he sends to the hospital for stitches, and the catcher is the one who gets dealt? wow. And people wonder why the Cubbies can't build a team that wins anything.
Rattlesnake 0 Posted June 20, 2007 This is an endorsement for Z. He'll be with the Cubs long-term. I like Barrett. It's true that he struggles running the bases and has some mental lapses defensively......and they weren't going to pay him FA money next year, apparently.........but how can you only get this in return? A backup catcher and a young OF? I thought this team was supposed to win now. Still conflicting reports on who gets the money, BTW...... They'd better be working another deal for another catcher, and soon.
GettnHuge 2 Posted June 20, 2007 ya they're just trying to please Zamborine. after the fight they all came out and said everything was cool in the clubhouse. which of course means everything ain't cool.

football_scooter 0 Posted June 20, 2007 I thought Josh Bard was supposed to be an up & coming young offensive catcher.
NJJoe20 0 Posted June 20, 2007 Good bat, bad glove. If the pitchers in SD can stand him, this will be a fine pick-up...
Sparkling Wiggles 0 Posted June 20, 2007 I thought Josh Bard was supposed to be an up & coming young offensive catcher. Listened to some SD baseball dude on ESPN this morning that said Bard is better as a lefty and pointed out that he hasn't played a full season yet. Makes sense for SD, though. Best catcher platoon in a long time and the other guy can pinch hit. Not a SD fan, but obviously they saw their chance and went for it. From the Cubs perspective, one of the guys had to go. I may have said restaurant or grocery store but you went directly to dry cleaner. Plus, how many people are actually in a dry cleaners at once, specifically that would whisper? Just sayin... YoMan 0 Posted June 20, 2007 Anyone who is upset by this trade does not understand the dynamics in the locker room. From everything I read not only did Zambrano not like pitching to him but Rich Hill got into it with him too. Barrett was a defensive liability and did not call a great game. His offense will definitely be missed but I say good riddance! He is definitely not the main cause for the Cubs being bad again but he was definitely a contributor. DBZFan2K 0 Posted June 21, 2007 If the Cubs got Linebrink in the deal then it would've been a good move. As it turns out, they got fleeced. Which is too bad because Towers is a jerk.
Vince44 208 Posted June 21, 2007 I would bet by the end of the month all the San Diego starting pitchers will be asking for their own personal catcher when they see how crappy Barrett is behind the plate. I seem to remember Blanco and Bako being the only guys who caught Prior, Zambrano, and Maddux in the past few years...wonder why? Michael Barrett is nothing if he is not hitting and he hasn't been all year. The guy belongs in the AL where he can be a DH cause I have never seen a guy screw over his pitching staff with more lazy and boneheaded plays than him.
