HTH 95 Posted July 2, 2007 Also, switching browsers won't help because other people use this machine and are too lazy to switch. Any suggestions?
lickin_starfish 1,923 Posted July 2, 2007 Use Firefox and set it to be the default browser. Also, remove the IE icons from the start menu and desktop. You're welcome.
edjr 6,580 Posted July 2, 2007 A popup blocker isn't going to stop what you have. you're going to need to remove what you got onto your PC. don't ignore it, because it could potentially be logging what you do into a database. it's called a hijacker. hth browser hijacker (sometimes called hijackware) is a type of malware program that alters your computer's browser settings so that you are redirected to Web sites that you had no intention of visiting. Most browser hijackers alter default home pages and search pages to those of their customers, who pay for that service because of the traffic it generates. More virulent versions often: add bookmarks for pornographic Web sites to the users' own bookmark collection; generate pornographic pop-up windows faster than the user can click them shut; and redirect users to pornographic sites when they inadvertently mistype a URL or enter a URL without the www. preface. Poorly coded browser hijackers -- which, unsurprisingly, are common -- may also slow your computer down and cause browser crashes
Rybo5 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Obviously you should use firefox, but IE has had a pop up blocker for a while now. If you have it enabled, and you're still getting inundated with pop ups, you most likely have malware. You might want to get that cleaned.

Either my 10 year old son or my not so bright wife has inadvertently loaded this sh!t on our home laptop. I don't use the thing, but they both do and it pops up with porn sites quite a bit. How can I make it go away??? I've downloaded spybot and something else (adaware I think?) and they "cleaned" a lot of stuff supposedly, but the popups are still there. Maybe I should just go to Firefox.
Rybo5 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Maybe I should just go to Firefox. You should definitely go with firefox, because it's simply superior to everything else out there, but it won't solve your malware problem. Your best bet for cleaning your computer is downloading hijackthis, creating a hijack this log, and posting it in this forum. Don't delete anything. Just post the log, and the experts will help you. Jeff Garcia 8 Posted July 2, 2007 Maybe you should watch what your 10 year old is doing on the internet. Or your wife. Maybe if you would give her the angry inch more often.
