Angry White Male 0 Posted July 9, 2007 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle2042072.ece THE former American secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2½ hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today’s conflict cannot be resolved by US forces. “I tried to avoid this war,” Powell said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. “I took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.” JAFN

No he is not. Regardless of what he says, the enemy is going to fight you to the death. Apparently, 2,000 years of history has taught you nothing 2. Again, doing his job. Behind closed doors, he advised GWB to not go in. To the UN, he is showing a unified front. Once he does his business, he figures how he can distance himself from the Administration. Seems like he played it correctly.
famousb 11 Posted July 9, 2007 1. he's emboldening the enemy by claiming we can't win 2. i seem to remember him sitting before the UN making the case FOR war. it takes some real guts to come out NOW against the war. 1. he's right, it IS a war we cannot win because there is no clearly defined enemy... 2. Yes, he did make the case for war against the UN because that was the decision of his President and government, and it was his JOB to make that case. It's called being loyal to your President and country even though you may not agree... So how exactly again is that being a traitor?? He gave the President his opinion and advice from a military standpoint about the difficulty trying to occupy a foreign country, as was his job. The President listened and still decided to go to war, so it was still Powell's job to appear before the UN and argue the points of why war was what the US President wanted. Plus, Powell never said he was against the reason for going to war, he just said he didn't think it was a good idea because of the military difficulties involved in actually winning it. There's a vast difference between the two concepts.
