prediction: Vick will never go to trial

Recommended Posts

When co-defendent Taylor pled guitly yesterday, he signed a "Summary of Facts" document. It said Vick provided almost all the money for the operation. He will so testify at trial. Game Set MATCH.

Look for Vick's lawyer to ask for a deal soon. The Feds might bite on a lone felony conviction. But if Vick digs in and trys the OJ gambit of swaying a gullible jury regardless of the evidence, the Feds will bury him with every crime in the book as they relate to dog fighting, illegal gambling and rackettering.

an attorney was on KNBR yesterday discussing this. Vick has missed any opportunity he once had to cop a plea.

The gov't rewards the 1st one to come forward. Vick had his chance to do so and his buddy beat him to it. Besides the fact that Vick is the "kingpin" who funded the whole thing and was involved longer than any of his co-defendants.

The reputation of the judge hearing the case indicates a few things going against Vick:

1. history of being "the rocket docket" - cases get to trial in a very speedy fashion

2. harsh penalties - he's a "hangin' judge" reportedly.

3. no "special treatment" of celebrities.

The attorney/legal analyst said that Vick will almost certainly do time. No way for "Ookie" to avoid it now.

Yep, it all comes back to the money. Vick's co-defendents are heartless scum to have the capacity to torture animals like that but Vick made the problem much, much worse by putting it on this grand scale with his money.

No one is going to believe that these other unemployed losers had the funds to run a major breeding and kennel operation. It was all Vick's money so he is the most responsible. Add in the mountain of evidence including multiple witnesses putting him in the town, at actual dog fights and even handling the purses and Vick should fry.

Hopefully, Ron Mexico will be taking it up the arse and/or getting shanked in prison very soon. Still, there's no way he or any of the other scum involved will ever be able to "pay" for the suffering that they put those dogs thru.

I think Killer Elite is right... we all know that Vick is screwed, even if he doesn't go to jail, there is not a team in a liberal enough area to really accept him. No value for ff... geek board topic

liberal? You seem to have your political affiliations confused...liberals want to burn him at the stake.

Vick funded the operation - Vick is going to burn for this.

As for the subject being on FFT or any fantasy website, it is football-related, fantasy relevant as there's still an outside chance he suits up, and frankly more interesting than 90% of the topics on here these days - unless you like seeing the same 3 members call each other names and tell each other they're "ignoring them" 200 times.

Give me Vick updates over that crap any day.

I watched Homeward Bound on Animal Planet last night. You know where the 2 dogs and a cat traverse about a thousand miles through the wilderness just to reunite wirth their children owners.

I swear, I nearly cried twice in that movie and I'm a 30 year old man.

Vick should be made to watch that and then talk to a psychiatrist. IF he shows repentance or emotion of any kind then just give him a year suspension from the NFL and make him give $ 250,000 to some kind of animal welfare organization.

If no emotion nor repentance, then fry his arse cause he'll never get it.

And Clinton Portis needs to keep his mouth shut if he doesn't get it.

That's all I got.

Awe man, that part where the kid is looking out and saying that Shadow was "too old, just too old", man I'm welling up right now. I think they should give him the all PETA sentence, 5 yrs in solitary watching Old Yeller, Homeward Bound, Eight Below, and Joey Harrington highlights...nothing but feel good animal flicks and "what might have been" shots of Joey ballgame.

Yeah, that's when my 7 year old boy was telling my 4 year old boy that Shadow was just too old to get out of that mudhole.

But when Shadow came limping out of the woods, later saying how he had been so worried about the boy who he belonged to. Just like a dog. To be hurt and worried about the human.

Well, that's when I had to get up and go blow my nose in the bathroom.

Btw, I didn't see Old Yeller but my family has a funny story about that movie. When my uncle was little he cried when they had to shoot Old Yeller. And he asked why they had to shoot him. They told him it was because he had been killing chickens.

Then some time later after a big family get together dinner, my grandpa got out his shotgun to clean it. My uncle who was not yet 5 asked my grandpa if he was going to have to shoot grandma.

My grandpa said no, of course not. Why do you ask that?

And my uncle's reply was because grandma had to kill 3 chickens to have enough to feed all the relatives.

LOL

They'll ask for a deal, but I doubt the Feds will give it. They want Vick's name in order to send a message to other dog fighting operations. And from what I hear, there are a zillion of them. Sadly.

Exactly. Kingpins don't get plea deals. They're the ones the feds are out to nail. It's the small time guys who were directly involved and can give the most damning evidence against the kingpin who get the deals.

I don't think Vick will ever play in the NFL again. When the court hears all of the cruel stuff about hanging and drowning dogs, they're going to throw the book at him.

I predict he'll get a 5 year sentence and serve 2 1/2 years of it. After that, the NFL will suspend him. I don't think he's coming back after 4 or 5 years.

Irony is that Vick tried so hard to keep his street cred and live that "thug life" that he had to position himself as that Kingpin gangsta figure.

130 million in contract & endorsements, but so afraid of being called an uncle tom & losing that gangsta street image that he threw it all away on this.

Truly pathetic. On this one I agree 100% with Jason Whitlock.

Last night on the news I saw an NAACP spokesperson asking that Vick be given an opportunity to defend himself being as he's innocent until proven guilty. But I don't remember them saying that during the beginning of the Duke Lacrosse case. As a matter of fact, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were screaming for their heads.

How soon they forget.

so by now most people agree that VICK will go to jail....i think the public should not have to pay for him to be in prison.....tax payers pay enough USE his millions to pay for his sentence............my choice but a 50 cent bullet in his skull...............and after jail will he be a better or worse person...........we all know the answer to that as well

WTF are you talking about. It is not a slam dunk that Vick goes to jail. There is still a trial to go through, not to mention the fact that he could plead out. And he killed some dogs, he didn't kill a bunch of people, why would you consitute the death penalty for dog fighting. That is ridiculous. Keep on filling up on all that media hype.

He better get a plea deal. I heard the conviction rate when the Feds are prosecuting is around 95%. Rich or poor, they all go down.

I do agree with you that people should keep "dog fighting" in perspective, though.

I just read that it's more typically 99% when they have a compelling indictment with cooperating witnesses.

Prior to this plea the Feds used a very typical tactic to help coax the plea deal from one of the defendants...they stated that they would issue a 2nd indictment.

Which means that they have even more to charge them with that they're using as their "ace in the hole" as leverage.

The charges on the table are likely to be about 60% of what they are likely to charge them with when all's said & done. This will get uglier before it goes away. My stance remains constant: Vick is toast and will never take another snap in the NFL.

felony convictions in federal court MUST SERVE 85% OF THE SENTENCE....this ain't no state BS where ya get 20 and serve 5

the lone charge he faces now is 6 yr max...but when the feds add new charges, they add years. Rackettering charges + running an illegal gambling game could push Vick's sentence into the high teens, maybe low 20's.

plus cruelty to animals which is a max 2 year sentence - and while they'll likely say he's serving the sentence for all 50+ animals consecutively, it is unlikely that he'd get any time off of this. Tack that on to the gambling & racketeering charges, PLUS the "pit bull" specific crimes, and it is quite conceivable that Vick could be in prison for 20 years. Especially with a judge known for his speedy trials and harsh sentencing.

Will be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

The dog stuff is minor, that was the scare tactic to get his hommies to turn. The additional charges, if they include racketeering and gambling across interstate lines, those will carry major sentences, probably minimum 10 yrs. I don't think we see Mr. Mexico for a minimum of 8 yrs. His career is over, not to mention what happens when the Falcons go after him for prorated guaranteed money. He'll probably still have his endorsement money, but he's still going to the pokey.

I am for one, sick of all the dog huggers, the liberals, the conservatives and the know-it-alls I keep seeing popping up on these threads. While I appreciate those who identify the general workings of the legal system and the specifics of the court and charges in question, until you have had personally experienced or witnessed a Federal witch hunt ram its microscope up your collective arses and seen the difference between reality and the fiction of a federal complaint, "the principle that there is a presumption of innocence in favor of the accused is the undoubted law, axiomatic and elementary, and its enforcement lies at the foundation of the administration of our criminal law..." Coffin v. United States, 156 U.S. 432 (1895).

I for one have never liked Michael Vick as a person.

But....I put it to you....isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

Well I guess I will not post anymore because you are sick of it

The indictment has nothing to do with the American society and everything to do with a having a little compassion for life of all living things. A class that Mr Vick must have missed in school.

the funniest part about this whole thing is that Vick tried to keep his gangsta image going, he had his hair all braded, and what does he do when he goes to court?

get's a real focking haircut so he doesn't look like just another thug :pointstosky:

it's little things like that, that entertain me.

I suppose I could post 400 times, but if I had to spit the closed minded dribble out of my mouth that I read in your posts, I would probably take the "50 cent bullet" you proposed for Vick and put it in my own head. Try attacking the message next time (like Devilsden did). The kissing offer, while it sounds enticing, concerns me. Maybe it sheds light on how you really treat your two dogs.

if it was prostitution, if it was just gambling, if it was only thug behavior at 2am at a titty bar...America would shrug it off as boys being boys

but the gratuitious killing of dogs...that hits a nerve with US.

Vick is not even charged/accused with killing even one dog per the entire 18 page indictment.
