Sounds like your TV is displaying a 1080 feed at a lower resolution. Instead of checking the settings on the HD box, check the display settings on the TV itself. I know that w/my PS3 that sometimes has to be done when switching TVs/cables/etc. I guess it lets the equipment re-initialize or makes the TV re-confirm the resolution.
