Nearing 40 ... life dilema

Recommended Posts

So, next spring, my lease is up. I'm less than happy with Phoenix. Also, the area I live ... has turned into crack ho central. I have some wrong colored doors and a beat up hardtop on my Jeep so it looks bad and people don't fock with it (also so I can lock it). If next summer is anything like this last summer, I really don't know if I can take it. When I left New York, it was part of my settlement with my landlord that I move out, didn't have a GF, a job, was done with school ... was an easy decision. Go back to Arizona ... then I remembered how much I hated Tucson, came up here to Phoenix, and now I remember why I hate Phoenix even more; it's such a wannabe city .... I gotta get outta here.

So, I've been renting this little crappy APT and saving my money. I like my job a times, but there's stuff that bugs me about it. In particular the rumors that are going around that I told some chick she'd be better off as a stripper than a graphic designer ... it's NOT what I said ... but we all know how 19 year old girls like to create drama.

I'm supposed to go full time next quarter, and I was planning on leaving after that. Figured I could buy and old RV and go to Cali next summer, drive up the coast, go to Oregon, visit a buddy of mine in Seattle. Find a place where I REALLY want to live ... where I can see myself at 50, 60 years old.

The school has other locations too ... in Cali, in Oregon so there is a chance of a transfer, but there is also a chance I could land a University job or a Community College job that pays more. If I stick it out another year in Phoenix though ... it increases my chances of being able to transfer. I suppose I should just be honest with my boss about it, supposed to go full time next quarter. There's no way I'm gonna be in Phoenix when I'm 40. I'll be 38 in February.

Gotta go where you're happy dude. If there's nothing really holding you back as far as relationships, job, etc then get the hell out of Phoenix if you hate it that much. Oregon sounds like a cool place as far as climate and atmosphere and anywhere in NorCal would be a sweet place to live too. You've seen New York, you've seen the desert, try the west coast and relax in Cali as you get old. Doesn't sound too bad, really.

I think that's solid advice. Like I said, my plan is not spend another summer here. I have family and connections all across Cali. As long as I'm honest about my intent. So, this spring, I should be OFFICIALLY a full time employee by then, and if my boss says, "We need you, please stay" ... then maybe I say, you've got 1 year ... stick it out 1 more year, for a better relationship with .... well lets just say, when it comes down to it .... Goldman Sachs is my employer. They own the company that I work for. Really wanna leave on good terms.

And WTF is up with people going 10 MPH BELOW the speed limit? And a focking camera that take your picture if you go 11 miles over the speed limit and you get a ticket in the mail. Nevermind the Arizona laws regarding proper service, or reasonable and prudent situations. It's freakin B.S. Just about every day, I get around some pack of morons, the stupidest drivers ever .... are here in AZ.

ETA:

I've gotten 2 of those Photo Radar tickets, got out of both. The trick? Just ignore it. Make them send a focking process server after you. And if they do ... avoid the process server. If you get a reputation amongst the process servers, as hard to serve ... even better.

Just don't do 101 on the 101 ... and ignore the focking tickets for 46 in a 35 you get in the mail.

Easily the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you get pulled over for ANY reason (like a tail light), you are going to jail. I am surprised you haven't received the DL suspension letter yet. Maybe you did and thought if you ignore that too, it will just "go away."

Ummm .... NO ... don't forget, my Dad, brother and sister are all attorneys! If you do not respond at all, the ticket was improperly served. It's Arizona law, you can't be served a legal notice through the mail. It's called "proper service" and it's the law. There is also an Arizona law that the posted speed limit MAY BE EXCEEDED, legally, if it is reasonable and prudent. For instance if you have to change lanes, you should speed up. It's safer.

Knock on wood but ... I have only been pulled over once .... since I moved back to Arizona ... driving my Mom's Miata to her studio. I had to go around a baricade because of some focking parade, and some angry motorcycle cop saw me, driving right towards him. Flashed his lights and I pulled over and he freaks out. "Do you know what the lights mean? The lights mean stop! Do you have an extra $300 to pay that fine?" and I was all, "I thought the lights meant pull over, I pulled over ... I gotta get to work, and I rent a parking space over here ... and this is the only way to get in." and he eventually let me go .... but I woulda friggin argued with him all day, if he wanted to go there. Focking Motorcycle cops are the worst.

I'm an excellent driver. In my blood. My Dad was a race car driver at one time. My brother has a 9 second Mustang. It's really just being aware of what's around you at all times ... and assuming everyone is a moron. Try and make as much space between you and the morons as possible. It sometimes requires, driving faster than the moron.

What you said was a dancer and even you pretty much admitted what you meant. I don't care if you were joking or not. Why you still refuse to accept responsibilty for your stupid comments is beyond me. You're almost 40 and apparently you were never taught responsibility.

I meant it as a joke about another school that has a bad reputation. Regardless of how it was interpreted ... I was only trying to be funny. Yes, I used the word "dancer" but I didn't say "pole dancer" and I didn't say "stripper".

Keep in mind this student has an unhealthy ASU vs. U of A hatred ... the only student that ever booed me while I talked about my education, first day of class.

Honestly .... I'd like to scream at her at this point, "What the fock are you doing! You wanna fock with my career over a little joke? Yeah well guess what? They need me more than they need you!"

Let's just say .... lesson learned.

I could just as easily say that she used the term "tramp stamp" in front of a class to refer to another students tatoo ... but it was a general statement, and I have no interest in misconstruing the situation to make it a specific ... because it was just a joke.

You made the joke. Don't blame her because your lack of common sense and not knowing when that type of joke is and isn't appropriate. Again, your ignorance on the subject is limitless. Instead of saying "Yep, I focked up." you decided to place blame on her.

I said I learned my lesson. It was inappropriate. I agree. Not sure I want to apologize ... not sure she wants to hear from me at all ... so .... whatever. Yer gonna have students that don't like you .... no matter what.

You said you learned your lesson. I have a feeling what you think the lesson is and what everyone else thinks the lesson is are two separate issues. Regardless, learning the lesson and taking responsibility for your actions are two separate things. Surely you're old enough and have some common sense to realize that. Maybe I'm setting the bar too high for you though.

First, Attorney's in the family is just as ignorant an excuse for violating the law as playing the race card. Second, it will not stop you from getting arrested and jailed until bail is processed. Last, there is a big difference between speeding up to pass someone and generally reckless speeding because you think you are a better driver than most so the laws don't apply to you. That is just pathetic and immature. I routinely go 5-10 over (as do many) but I don't go 20+ over because I think I can just "get away" with it or because I am such a much better driver that I deserve to.

Guess the fock what ... it's college ... I can pretty much kick you out of my class for anything I want. And WITHIN THE CONTEXT of me trying to inspire you to make your deadlines, if I say, "You could make more money as a dancer than as a junior graphic designer. Don't know how to dance? It doesn't matter anymore." THAT'S WHAT I SAID! WORD FOR FOCKING WORD! OUT OF CONTEXT!

It's clearly a joke about another schools advertising .... I'm bustin' balls ... thought she was cool ... FOCKING ARIZONA! Nobody can take a friggin joke!

I think there are several male and female students, that have heard a rumor like I said, "She'd be better off as a hooker." ... that's pretty much what some students think I said. I'd hate me too!

Not my intent at all. IT WAS A JOKE!

Big deal... he said dancer, she better get used to it because I've seen much worse in the corporate world.

When I was in high school, I didn't care about anything. I came to class one day (high as usual) and the teacher pulled me aside, looked at me in the eyes and told me very calmy that I was never going to amount to anything. I was going to be a nobody for the rest of my life. Now I know he didn't say something so evil like I was going to be a male "dancer", but it woke me up a bit. If he said that today, a student would probably sue the school. And that wasn't even ten years ago.

B. Its a tip that you are the moron...not the other drivers. HTH

I agree, GF should have known better to say somehing like that nowadays. But my point was everyone is too sensitive. He was wrong to say it because he should have known he could get in trouble. He was not wrong to say it because it was the wrong thing to say.

If he said it in a concerned, parental way, the way your teach told you, that would have been fine. GF said it a "who the heck are you to question me, you are a worthless female POS who shouldn't even be in this field" kinda way.

Oh, and I meant that your teacher was right about you, when I posted that.

Oh he ws definately right. All I did was party in high school and I was on the fast track to nowhere. Honestly that simple comment he made made me realize that after high school I'm on my own, and I better start doing something besides partying. I needed a little kick in the butt, and I'm glad he had the guts to put me in my place.

Not sure if you are trying to take a shot at me here and say he was right, and that I didn't amount to anything. But since you don't know me or know how I ended up, I'm going to assume you meant he was right to say that and set me straight.
