She's hot with big boobs and willing to do crazy stuff to be with me but she doesn't have an investment background. So how 'bout your retirement funds? LOD01 198 Posted February 29, 2008 State retirement. I know approximately how much I receive every month until dead. Dow 7000 who cares. Dow 14000 who cares. S&P in April 1999: 1345. S&P in March 2008: looks like around 1330.....a net LOSER over the last 9 years. Good job George Bush. All that voted for him...you got what you deserved. Good move getting out of US stocks because they have sucked. If you had a 401K starting 1999 or before and tried to mirror the markets (the vast majority of 401k holders) you've made nothing even remotely close to enough to retire on. If you started in January 2003, you are lucky to have ridden the market upeard but now you get to watch your account drain too.

Oh good..more brilliant investment insight from LOD....take the S&P at the top of the dotcom bubble and compare it to later dates...and assume people put all of their money in at the exact worst time Here is a 60 year S&P chart in case you missed it last time I posted it for ya. redtodd 7 Posted March 1, 2008 Care to share the #'s??? Not the balance, but I am currently putting 10% into my 401k and then some into two IRA's. Overall, I am putting between 15 and 20% of my income into retirement.

If you can "afford it", I don't think it's too much. Depends on what your retirement plans are.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted March 1, 2008 Retirement numbers are stictly subjective to where you are in your age, your overall compensation structure, additional savings vehicles, and taxes. I am happy with my retirement numbers as I have been maxing out my 401k since I graduated college, have made solid investments with diversification, and I have other investments that are not specifically designated as "retirement" that will carry me for a while. The big concern that I have this year is that I need to start adjusting for estate planning in which I have to start splitting things up so that the gubment can't take everything and my family can't just start going nuts without my wishes being considered. That is a different story
