pimptastic69 0 Posted June 5, 2008 Gawd these things are nasty. Can't even walk out in the damn yard without being molestored by these vile creatures. Their dead carcasses are piled up 3 or 4 inches deep at the base of my trees. Smells like focking dead fish everywhere. Best of all, apparently they're attracted to noises like lawn mowers and chain saws- which is just awesome since I need to cut up a bunch of fallen tree limbs (covered in cicadas) and mow the lawn. Me_2006 14 Posted June 6, 2008 Are they the things that leave the brown shells attached to trees and junk? Like they shed their skin or something and it keeps the shape of their body except with a little hole in it? If so we had some here when I was like 4. Due West for college, ever heard of it? (It's about halfway between Greenwood and Anderson).
naomi 356 Posted June 6, 2008 Due West for college, ever heard of it? (It's about halfway between Greenwood and Anderson). Never heard of it. The closest colleges I knew about were Wofford, USCS and BJU. Anderson is familiar. Greenwood isn't though. How do you like it out there?
MisanthropicAnthropoid 0 Posted June 6, 2008 Never heard of it. The closest colleges I knew about were Wofford, USCS and BJU. Anderson is familiar. Greenwood isn't though. How do you like it out there? We do draw quite a few students from Spartanburg (but mostly from Greenville), but I'm not surprised you've never heard of it. There are people in Greenwood (20 miles away) who haven't heard of it. I love the college. It's small, academically strong, serious about being Christian, and not legalistic. As far as the area, it's not bad, but I don't think I could live there. I miss the mountains.

My parents moved out there (we have family that moved out about a decade ago) and then moved back. Didn't fit in, but then again it was the kind of place where our neighbors were actually KKK members. Not everyone was like that but aside from our family, no one could be related to. Even though we're white and of western European descent, it's weird to go from a place where there's a lot of diversity to the opposite.

BunnysBastatrds 2,435 Posted May 21, 2024 If you’re talking about locust molting on the side of your hous, they are not ciadas. The big ones that are black and yellow that look like grass hoppers are. And they do stink. Once a year they show up and they are stoopid. I was in my backyard yesterday and sawr something I’ve never seen before. Kind freaked me out. A cottonwood borer. But twice the size of this little guy. I was getting rid of a neighbors poison Ivy vine growing into my yard (I’m not allergic to oak or ivy) and see this. So I picked him up with the pooper scooper and tossed him into the neighbors yard. Live long and prosper

cmh6476 1,024 Posted May 21, 2024 Like it or not, the cicada invasion is in full force. Trillions of periodical cicadas part of Brood XIX and Brood XIII are emerging this year in multiple states, part of a rare, double-brood event. These 13- or 17-year cicadas have been waiting for the right soil conditions to come above ground, where they will eat, mate and die, with the newly-hatched nymphs burrowing underground to start the whole cycle over again.
