WW's Help Thread

I agree. I originally drafted Hardy to be my bye week WR then dropped Titans DST to pickup Desean & dropped Bironas to pickup Slaton.

THANKS!

that was my original answer, however with the recent news regarding kevin curtis, jackson might have a little more value.

personally id still go with hardy but just something to consider regarding desean.

to me this is almost a no brainer.

ADDAI, EDWARDS and WELKER should be your keepers. being that you start 4 wide there is no reason keeping 2 WR's should hurt you. I think there are plenty of QB options out there that will be just as good as Cutler.

ADDAI is equal to a 1st round choice so might as well make sure you grab him as he wont be there by the 8th pick in round 1 most likely. And even if he is (lets say a bunch of other owners keep first round quality guys) youd still pick him right??

EDWARDS is a 2nd rounder, 3rd at worst so to get him for a 6th is golden.

WELKER is probably no worse than a 5th round choice so again to get him for a 9th is golden.

Sorry i didnt make it more clear but I can only keep one player at each position

i should have read a little more carefully. you did indeed say at different positions

id still keep ADDAI and EDWARDS.

the QB one is a bit more tricky. Cutler is good value in the 10th but Anderson is incredible value in the 9th.

Personally I am not high on Anderson but the represented value for him in the 9th is really really good. I wouldn't worry about keeping players from the same team.. Manning Wayne, Brady Moss, Anderson Edwards, Big Ben Holmes ETC.... don't let that fact make your decision for you.

Pick whichever QB you like better and feel represents a greater value.

Andersons concussion withstanding, I think for a 9th he is the best value

Hey, WhiteWonder.

I'll try to be concise...but my league is unique in its scoring and drafting.

I'm in a 12-team keeper league with the following scoring format:

PaTD - Passing TD 30 points

PaYd - Passing Yards 1+ PaYd = 1 point for every 1 PaYd

ReTD - Receiving TD 60 points

ReYd - Receiving Yards 1+ ReYd = 2 points for every 1 ReYd

Recpt - Reception 2 points

RuTD - Rushing TD 60 points

RuYd - Rushing Yards 1+ RuYd = 2 points for every 1 RuYd

Each team can keep up to 3 with no team allowed to keep more than 2 at a particular position. I kept MJD, Marshawn and Brees. I pick 11th. Keepers were just made public to all owners and many teams kept only one player and will have the opportunity to pick until all teams have 3 players. That's when the whole league starts drafting. So, for a team who kept 1 player, they pick 2 from the non-keeper pool and eventually all teams will have 3. That's when the entire league starts drafting in a serpentine format.

So, with that said, I feel I have to go WR with my first 2 picks. I also hope to snag Witten maybe a round earlier than I should because in this scoring format, I think he can put up WR #s.

Here are the players kept:

QB-Brady, Manning, Brees

WR-Wayne, Andre Johnson, R. Moss, Fitz

RB-Portis, Maroney, LJ, LT2, SJax, ADP, Addai, Lynch, Westy, Grant, R. Bush, MBIII, Gore, McGahee, Turner, MJD

So who do I covet with my first 2 picks? Should I go 2 WR? In my mind, players in the Santonio Holmes and Cotchery tiers will be available. Another thing to consider is that players who run back kicks get 1 point per return yard. So, players like Nate Burleson, Cribbs, Hester, Ginn, Ahmad Bradshaw may put up consistently good numbers and be had later.

All in all, I'm looking for a solid draft strategy considering these factors.

Thanks so much!

If i understand you need to cut some space on your team.

I don't see Indy having much value as a D or at least not enough to warrant a roster spot when you already have SD. you can grab somoene playing the bears 9ers etc during SD bye.

Hold on to Scheffler. Out of the other TE's id drop Watson if you really need the space. Many of the TE's you listed as being out their will probably be bettr. Id keep an eye on Keller and Utecht.

well you are pretty set and safe at RB and obviously QB. So i would look at WR's and TE.. I would also like Winslow in this format. He catches alot of balls and racks up yards the same or more so than Witten. id say Winslow gets more yards while Witten historically scores more TD's. With the emphasis your league seems to place on yards gained i like Winslow alot at TE.

Def try to grab Holmes. Cothery isn't bad either.. Maybe a Harrison or Holt will slip? :music_guitarred:

If a good value runningback slips however don't be afraid to deviate from the WR/TE plan and grab him. You didn't tell me your lineup requirements but even if you can only start 2 RB and no flex, it never hurts to have a solid back on your team and keep him from another team.

As far as those return guys i hav never been in a league with points for return yards but i assume this has to make Ted Ginn pretty valuable as he will be the #1 WR as well as kick and punt returner. Target him. And to a lesser extent, Hester.

13. (127) Josh Brown

after starting the draft in the fashion you chose you actually fielded yourself some stomachable options at RB. Everyone is high as a kite on Chris Johnson. I like Lendale. He hasn't shown any reasons yet why he should not be the starter. And I like Edge to give one last good year.

Personally I don't like not grabbing a RB in the first 2 rds. And I would have chosen Thomas Jones over Jacobs where you did but really either is OK.

I might have even snagged Colston there and went full throttle WR and grabbed Willie Parker in the 4th. but really thats all speculation. no way to know who would be left etc at your next pick.

All in all i think you did just fine except the Heap pick in the 11th. you already had winslow i would have grabbed another RB flier. But just get thru the Smith and Marshall suspensions and you should be powerful.

I am seeking a general opinion on my league's draft- we place some hefty side bets on each other so I am trying to gauge which team to buy and who to sell:

http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=319419

looks like a very solid draft by all and easier for me to say who i would not bet money on.

team 1,5,6,8,9,10 i would not put money on.

2,3,4,7 all look either very deep or have at least a handful of studs with servicable guys around them (i.e. team 2).

my early favorite is team 3

Thanks much...that was about what I figured, but always conflicting info out there. And yes,

I'm weak on WR and might take add a RB so I am looking at freeing up 1 or 2 roster spots.

Not to ask to many questions, and I realize this one is a good bit open ended but if you can,

check out:

As said, my emphasis is on WR - I might pick up T. Ginn, S. Rice, E. Royal or D. Jackson and keep an eye

out as preseason comes to a close/regular season starts.

Again thanks!

Took a look at that thread. I have to agree, Fred Taylor is a must have. No way he should be a free agent in a 10 team league. I understand your concern over already having MJD but both produced last year and Taylor produced enough to make it to the pro bowl. In a pinch these two can even be started on the same week. Its not something you should really look to do often but if its needed it won't hurt you too terribly bad.

The best WR's left are Ginn and the two rookies Hardy and Jackson. Id heep an eye on how the rest of the preseason plays out and see how Jackson does with the injuries to Brown and Curtis in Philly. Hardy would be my pick otherwise.

Really the best free agents out there are RB's which is really weird. If you can stand to stay with the 4 WR's you have, Fargas Mendenhall and Ray Rice are all decent pickups even though none is in an ideal situation. But all it takes is injury or some bust out games for these guys to take over and be very very good.

if your dead set on picking up a RB and WR make it Taylor and Hardy.

Auction draft this Saturday. It is a partial keeper league, so not everyone is available. I am looking for some guys that I can get cheap, but yet get pretty good value out of.

For instance, last year someone suggested on here I get Matt Schaub, I got him for a buck and he was certainly worth that!

One guy I hope to get cheap this year is Robert Meachem - WR for the Saints - I like the offence he plays in and I like his upside.

Help me out and give me (and others) some names!

Thanks!

ill give a few guys per position who i think you can get pretty cheap and might work out for your team. I would not advise putitng too much stock into any of these guys especially as starters. You probably wouldn't have wanted to rely on Schaub as your starting QB last year.

QB- J.Campbell, Leinart, Edwards

WR- Meachem (as you already mentioned), Isaac Bruce, Justin Gage, Steve Smith NYG, Chris Henry

TE- Dustin Keller (keep an eye on him with Favre at QB now. he has looked good in camp and preseason), Zach Miller

RB- my big one was Ray Rice but now i don't know how cheap you will be able to get him. Lamont Jordan might be someone to snag for a dollar. Maroney hasnt impressed at all and is injury prone. Only other guys really would be backups most people will ignore but you will still have to hope an injury happens... for example Deshaun Foster

k- ha just kidding

I hope you're right though- after my betting today I will be up a grand if team 3 wins the championship.

This RBBC stuff is getting out of control. It seems as though there are very few actual "starting" RBs anymore. Is anybody else feeling handcuffed by RB handcuffs?

I am pretty solid at WR/TE but may have to drop 2 to keep my growing stable of RBs & add a PK & DST.

MY TEAM

Delhomme, Favre

MBIII, Rudi / Perry, Ronnie / Ricky, Selvin

R Moss, Colston. Chad, Hardy & DeSean Jackson

Gates

K - ?

DST - ?

I have tried to trade Favre, Selvin, Chad, & DeSean but there are no takers and no one willing to part even with a backup DST.

So my question is:

Am I deep enough at WR/TE to play Moss on his bye week (Week 4) and just drop Hardy & DeSean for a K & DST?

Any and all ideas welcome.

It is becomming more prevalent but often times the second guy gets just enough carries to keep the real stud fresh. i.e. Julius Jones last year with Marion Barber... Other times 2 backs produce well enough to play for fantasy teams like MJD and Freddy T.

but i do hear you. theres alot of times where we just can't tell what the hell is going on and it effects, as in your case, who to keep on our fantasy team.

the main reason your facing this problem is obviously that you have whoever starts in cincy and whoever starts in miami. I am putitng my money on Perry and Williams as the guys who end up seeing a bulk of the load this year but obviously you can't cut rudi or ronnie until it is proven and being that one of these guys has to be your number 2, you dont have the luxury to cut Selvin either.

quite a dilemma.

14 total players on a roster seems low to me. I assume you start 1qb 2rb 3wr 1te 1k 1d thats 9 with only 5 bench?

well, i would wait until the last possible days to drop anyone.. let the rest of preseason play out and see if we can get a handle on the miami and cincy RB situations. Also see just how much Desean is comming along. I know curtis is hurt but i just see McNabb spreading the ball around so much that Desean is the guy I would currently drop on your roster.

but that still leaves 1 spot.

if you drop BOTH WR's your really not in trouble until week 4 and by then we should definately know which of your RB's is ok to trash. the only problem i see is having to part with Hardy who i think could put up decent numbers as the Bills redzone target opposite Evans.

so in short, wait it out. If the RB situation still isnt clear drop both WR's as youve said. Then you'll have to drop a RB for a WR come week 4.

how would you re-rank the top 12 players based on the scoring settings below:

12 player league

ALL - TD - 6pt

QB - 50yds / pt

WR - 15yds / pt

RB - 15yds / pt

WR - 15yds / pt

RB - 15yds / pt

i wouldn't really re rank the players much at all.

First off, when i look at stats i try to keep it relative to position. How will QB A perform vs QB B in this scoring system for example. Not so much how will QB's as a whole perform against RB's... because each team still has to start X number of each position

6 pt td's make it tempting to grab a QB early like Brady because he threw so many more last year than the competition at QB but 50 yards for a passing point bring that right back down to earth. compare that to 4 pt TD's and a point per 25 yards.

a 400 yard 4 td game would be 32 points in both systems.

WR and RB yards per point being 15 rather than 10 should make that much of a difference.

I would keep player rankings similar to what your probably seeing everywhere

LT, ADP, Westy, Jackson, Addai, Brady, Barber, Moss, Portis, Gore, Lynch, TO, Manning and so on.

Just curious. Do you work third? If not what the hell are you doing up right now?

It's fun trying to help people out. I usually learn quite a bit looking up stats and news and stuff trying to give answers. I like to think we are doing a good service and helping ourselves out at the same time!

Keep it up!!

do i work? yea just happen to be off today... "third" idk what that means

i agree helping people out teaches yourself quite a bit and you find some interesting questions along the way.

it also tends to keep posts and responses as help oriented instead of breaking down into an argument like alot of threads normally do :Mr-T:

wait a minute, you were up the same time as me! :bandana:

"Working third" Do you work during the night time, that's what I meant. I do work third, that's why I'm always on here at different times.

Here's a question for you:

14th pick tomarrow. I have pick fourtee.

It's a high performance league. I'm the commish so I've talked to about everyone and I know how the draft is going to unfold for the first seven picks for sure and prolly the rest:

1. Tomlinson

2. Brady

3. Westbrook

4. Peterson

5. Portis

6. Jackson

7. Addai

8. Manning

9. Romo

10. Jamal Lewis...as commish I thought it was duty to talk him off the cliff, but he won't budge!

11. Randy Moss

12. ?? Only guy that I simply don't know (I'm thinking Barber though)

13. Ryan Grant

14. I think I'll take Gore for sure.

15. Me again.......My second pick is between Larry Johnson and Drew Brees.

If I don't take Brees, I'll end up with Cutler, Rodgers, Delhomme, Eli....someone like that.

If I don't take LJ I'll prolly end up with Michael Turner, Selvin Young....someone like them?

Anyone else don't interest me....Lynch, Owens...whoever.

What do you suggest. Thanks!!

never herd the term. I do work random times but never really late at night.

anyway would help to know your scoring system, lineup requirements but if you don't like lynch id say go ahead and grab LJ. Id be fine with a Cutler/delhomme combo at QB more so than possibly selvin young as your number 2 RB.

Hey White Wonder-

Thanks for creating the thread btw, a big help to lots it seems.

I have a question about a strange league setup and how it will affect my draft.

Generally my strategy is to load up on RB/WR early, have probably more depth than necessary at RB, and then play matchups with QBs and generally punt TE, K, and DEF. This has worked exceptionally well in the past and I think its worth the sacrifice generally for the depth, which seems to always come in handy. If all else fails you can always trade away RB depth right before the playoffs for top talent elsewhere.

So, heres the settings for this new league - redraft, almost standard scoring, except 5pts per passing TD and there are bonuses of a couple points for "big games". meaning at 300 and 400 passing yards, and 100 and 200 rush/rec yards. No PPR. I think this favors QBs right off the bat.

12 Team league, here are positions:

QB. QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, FLEX, TE, K, K, DEF, DEF. 5 Bench.

Looks like QBs are going to be the most shallow position, given 24 start every week (if you include byes this really starts to look crazy). There is also a cap on 3 QBs per team - ouch. Other caps are more reasonable. Seems like my method of waiting until round 6 at least to grab a QB has to go out the window. What do you think, given this new league setup.

It seems to me that the way to go would be to load up on RB and QB in the early rounds and sacrificing some value at WR, because the RB and QB are much more scarce.

As a hypothetical, if Im in the swing position (12th and 13th overall) how do you feel about grabbing Romo and Manning right there if available. Generally, this would seem outrageously awful, but in this league it actually might be optimal. Not sure.

Thanks in advance for all of the help.

Thanks for your answers ahead of time. What are your thoughts on the following RBs:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Slaton (Hou) - I think he will be the starter ahead of Green who will be hurt

Ray Rice (Bal) - Is McGahee possible done w/ Ravens?

Rashard Mendenhall (Pit) - More than a 3rd down back?

Ricky Williams (Mia) - reborn starter or just keeping Ronnie's seat warm until his return?

Chris Perry (Cin) - finally has arrived?

you seem to have a pretty good handle on this situation. Normall the first thing i preach is not to value certain positions over another simply because of a scoring system, unless ofcourse you start multiple flex spots, but in the case of lineup requirements it is often needed.

in this case there will be a premium on QB's because each team starts 2. Also, there is always a premium on RB's so youve nailed it pretty much. I would go after those 2 spots and let WR alone for a while unless something incredible falls to you that you can't pass up.

One caution: don't get hung up on QB's. target who you want but if they just always go before your pick, don't reach too badly. Don't overpay for a Brett Favre if you can grab something else of value and get a Jay Cutler a round later.

I think Williams and Perry will be the starters for their respective teams and play quite well this season. I am targeting both later in my draft as all 3 of my keepers were RB's

I love Ray Rice. i got to watch a lot of him during college and he has a great work ethic and is just a tough kid. Ive never been a McGahee fan and it would not surprise me if Rice takes that job sooner rather than later.

Slaton and Mendenhall i am keeping my expectations low. I think the steelers invision mendenhall in a jerome bettis role. He could become that but id give it some time. All im hearing is good things about slaton but Green and Brown are still there. If one gets cut then I will be a bit higher on slaton but until then ill pass until very late.

Perry, Williams, Rice, Slaton, Mendenhall in that order. most would prolly have mendenhall 3rd but i really just don't like his situation. i prefer guys with the chance to be the man.

I have Addai, Reggie Bush, T Jones, Selvin, & Rice (Start 2). I am set at WR w/ Housh, TO, Roy & Hardy.

Am I giving up too much if I trade Bush, T Jones + DeSean Jackson for Ricky Williams & Bears DST?

(I think Bush will be in a 3 way RBBC & like the Hester factor of the Bears DST.) I could then pickup Perry.

You dont need White Wonder for this. My sister could tell you thats way too much. Wait until later in the season and trade the depth if you dont need it then. Save the depth on your team - Bush is an injury risk and Selvin could easily lose the job in Denver.

i really wouldn't consider any of those trades.

i think you are fine at all positions.

i assume this is a continuation of one of your previous posts. I would not try to make a trade just to clear roster space or add a defense. a trade like the one you listed aboveis not in your favor and your better off just dropping jackson for a defense.

Man I feel pretty disappointed about my team I just drafted... It is an 8 team league with my cousins and other family members. We did an auction league and play the following positions...

QB

QB

RB

RB

WR

WR

RB/WR

WR/TE

Def/ST

K

We then have only 4 bench spots available. It was standard scoring except passing TD's also count as 6 pts, so QB's are really huge. But the commish added some new rules in:

Passing:

.25 pts for every attempt

.5 pts for completions

1 pt for passing first down

Rushing:

1 pt for russing first down

.5 for every attempt

Receiving:

1 pts for receiving first down

.5 for every completion

Whew, now on to my team and what I paid... We had $100 to draft

QB: Romo $20

QB: Anderson $12

RB: McGahee $10

RB: Willie Parker $3

WR: Andre Johnson $10 love this pick

WR: Santonio Holmes $9

RB/WR: Brandon Jacobs $10

WR/TE: Calvin Johnson $6

Def/ST: Seattle $1

K: Dawson $1

Bench:

QB: Kitna $1

RB: Edge James $1

RB: Graham $5

WR: Brandon Marshall $4 wow at this, like it alot

Now I am pretty mad I didnt get a big RB, but I went quick with Romo, Jacobs (was trying to bump up value, but got caught) and Anderson, and they were spending like crazy. So how do you think this team looks? Should I make some trade for a big RB or wait a few weeks to see how my team does? Sorry this is so long but I just want to know. It was very frustrating watching my players I was eyeing to draft getting bid up over my max to spend on them, but I feel I made some good value picks. Also we can keep up to 3 players after this year, and the only rule is is whoever you keep you must add $5 to the cost he was at the draft and subtract that from your starting $100 at the beginning of the year. So I got some good young WR's I could keep next year.

ex. If I kept only Marshall it would cost me $11 next year to keep him and I would start the draft next year with $89.

Sorry this is so long, hope you can wander through this jumbo

I absolutely love your WR's including Marshall on your bench.

Im not high on Anderson but as a second QB when you have to start 2 its hard to argue. I would have rather spent less on a McNabb or a Cutler.

Your RB's worry me in an 8 team league but i like seeing Graham and Edge on your bench. I think Edge has 1 good year left. I really don't like the McGahee pick but im sure he was the most attractive option for you at the time.

without seeing the other 7 teams I would think your in position to compete.

On a side note whoever is running your league is  . half a point per rush attempt and .25 per pass attempt?? so players now get points simply for the play called? I don't like this at all.

receptions at least take effort on the part of the WR and maybe completions take skill by the QB but to simply attempt a pass or have a running play called by the OC? insane.

not a fan of derek anderson. i think you will end up startin schuab over him sooner rather than later.

I like the Portis LJ combo.. a steady guy with a risk/reward player.

I also like Harrison at WR. Not a fan of Bowe but seeing Harrison there would make me comfortable with your depth.

you should be in the hunt. will probably come down to a few things. How LJ performs this year and how your team does in the absence of Marshall

Hey all,

Rate my team, and if you want to throw in a link to yours and I'll rate you

12 teams, non PPR, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 OP (RB/WR/QB/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST

It was an 8 team league last year, and we expanded by 4. Each team from last year got to pick 1 keeper for a pick in the round he was drafted last year, costing a minimum of a 5th round pick. For example, a player drafted in the 3rd round last year would cost a third round pick this year. A player drafted from the 5th round on, though, would all cost a 5th round pick.

The 8 Players kept: LT, AP, Brady, Moss, Romo, Wayne, sJax, & I kept Braylon in the 5th.

I drew # 1

My Team

QB:

Big Ben

McNabb

RB:

Westbrook

McGahee (cuffed w/ Rice)

Jonathan Stewart

Maurice Morris

WR:

Braylon Edwards

Santana Moss

Reggie Brown

Derick Mason

D.J. Hackett

TE:

Tony Scheffler

Greg Olsen

D/ST:

Seattle

K:

Shane Graham

Starting (for now)

Q:Big Ben

RB: Westbrook, McGahee

WR: Braylon, S. Moss

TE: Scheffler

OP: McNabb

D/ST: Seattle

K: Shayne Graham

Thanks!!

Ehhh... Westbrook in the first was a good pick and keeping Braylon for a 5th was good. Beyond that im trying to figure out how your draft went for rounds 2-4 . McGahee Big Ben and McNabb? Im not a fan of 2 QB's that high. I realize you can start one as a flex and i guess depending on your league scoring starting a QB there could be just fine but I don't see a huge difference between a McNabb and a Delhomme or Cutler or Warner who i assume went a bit later.

Not really high on your receivers beyond Edwards.

I think you will need a bit of luck or maybe a trade here and there along with some smart waiver wire management to contend this season.
