New Nickname for Calvin Johnson

Recommended Posts

Roy Williams has changed his nickname for Calvin Johnson from Megatron to "Bolt," after Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt.

Bolt is a Jamaican who took gold in the 100- and 200-meters, earning the title of World's Fastest Human. "I know I can't run with that guy," Willliams said of Calvin. "I'm fast, but he's...he's the Randy Moss of the 2000 era. He's a Bolt. He's 6-5 and he's a 9.69 guy," referring to Bolt's time in the 100.

Look who Moss had throwing to him in Minny... Last I checked Culpepper isn't even in the league anymore and Ferotte is a perennial backup... HTH

Chicago should be flipping a coin to see which one of them starts for the Bears. ;)

That's nice. I hope every Lions player get a nickname this season to keep their spirits up during another losing season.

Wow, the hype train has left the station. Top 10? That's nuts. I don't care how awesome his potential is, you don't take him over proven guys. He's got a below-average QB, their O-line is terrible so Kitna won't have allot of time to find the WR's, judging from the pre-season (and its all we have to work with right now) they won't have an effective running game to open things up, and he's got Roy Williams lined up across from him. While I think he can be a solid WR2, top 10 is crazy. They want to be a run first team, so allot of the passing won't happen until the second half when they're way behind in games.

Even in a dynasty league I wouldn't rank him that high, because I don't see any potential for this to be a great offence. Kitna's getting older, and I don't have any confidence in Stanton to become a good NFL QB.

I have Megatron now in my top ten. Here are my reasons why.

1- An offense that is going to be more conventional that will focus on his unique talents.

2- He is healthy

3- Guys in the 10-14 range got ?'s (Steve "Bonecrusher" Smith suspension, Ocho Cinco injury, Marshall suspension, Burress health, Welker hit ceiling already, )

4- Coming on this PS

5- 2nd year breakout theory

The guy was banged up last year and still managed over 700 yds. I can see that doubling. :wall:

I believe you're reffering to the 3RD year breakout theory. As a lions homer I truly hope you're right, I just see this hype every pre-season on a different player every year. I need to see it before I'm a believer

So you are saying he can't play nicked up*? This is the problem I have with AJ. It is something to consider when drafting.

* see P. Burress for the opposite of this.

kitna hasn't been sacked once in the preseason and has a near-perfect rating. not disagreeing there are questions, but i don't see how you can say there are questions based on kitna's time and performance this preseason. that's data that doesn't support your claim.

Note the ",". Those are two different thoughts you've combined into one. Performance in the pre-season was referring to the bad running game. Terrible O-line is just a fact of life, and Kitna doing well against base pass defences with no blitz packages doesn't change that.

They want to be a run first team

Maybe, but I really think they'd just rather be a more balanced team. They want to open up the pass by running, and having Roy on the other side might ensure single coverage for CJ.

They can say they want to run first all they want, but there is no denying the fact that those two WRs are the stregth of their offense.

Link :dunno:

Nomad, just a matter of opinion on that. He is likely not to go past the 145 or so targets from a year ago. If he gets to that mark, is he going to be averaging 13 YPC? Hard to think he will go over the 8 TDs I believe he had last yr (off the top of my head).

Sorry if I came off as having inside information or something. Welker is not septic as of now :bandana:
