ddp1bam 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Trying to decide which one to get for the kids. Anyone here with the ins and outs, ups and downs or just some general reccomendations? Its for the 3 kids and me a little bit too. Just looking to get the best one for the money. Thanks
Me_2006 14 Posted November 12, 2008 Guitar Hero doesn't touch Rock Band. Rock Band took what Guitar Hero did well, added the other instruments to it, and added better songs. Especially with more than one person, Rock Band is 100000% the way to go. They'll have a blast together with it.

My nephews and neices love rock band, I swear, they'll probably get shirts made for Xmas from Uncle Mung.
Me_2006 14 Posted November 12, 2008 Also, I'll add that you wont find a more fun group activity than Rock Band. Anyone from like 5-75 would have a good time playing it.
jerryskids 6,825 Posted November 12, 2008 I've got both. From a personal challenge standpoint, I enjoyed GH better. But as a family bonding event, RB is better because everyone can participate. My 12 yr old son plays drums IRL, and my daughters love to sing. Based on your OP I'd go with Rock Band.

So now I have Rock band, all of the guitar heros and come XMAS guitar hero world tour and Rock Band 2. (Full version with all instruments.) Shhhh dont tell the kids its a suprise
washers 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Rock Band has more well known songs and is easier for n00bs, but the instruments are kinda shaky. Guitar hero has solid hardware but some of the songs may be more obscure and more challenging, making it less fun for karaoke party style play, you end up learning a song as you sing it. You will enjoy either one, but thats just a little info on what you're getting.
Isotopes 1 Posted November 12, 2008 I have GH World Tour and IMO it is just as good or better than Rock Band. Rock Band is definitely better than the older version of GH. The new GH with the drums and mic is improved though.
surferskin 30 Posted November 12, 2008 Rock Band has WAAAAYYYYY more downloadable content which is also a huge plus.
davebg 0 Posted November 12, 2008 I'm a little biased, as I've been playing Rock Band since before it came out last year (and I work at MTV, which makes Rock Band.) I like the selection of songs better for RB than for GH. However, GH has some of the more high-profile artists (like Hendrix.) So, that's just personal preference. There are two things that makes RB stand out, IMO. The downloadable content. Every week there are new songs available for download. This week the Foo Fighters "The Colour and the Shape" is out for download. The other thing is that Harmonix, which is the dev studio that makes the game, is made up of musicians. As a result, I have found that their note charts are much better than GH. Also, GH is published by Activision, which has pretty much come right out and said that they are only interested in publishing games that they can drive into the ground by releasing yearly sequels. So, I try to avoid Activision games whenever possible, as I hate supporting greedy bastards who are unrepentant about putting crap out on the shelves in order to cash in on a franchise. ddp1bam 0 Posted November 13, 2008 thanks for all the input. Went with Rock Band. Anyone know of any good websites that sells accessories, mainly extra guitars at a reasonable price? TIA

Mungwater 597 Posted November 13, 2008 what does MTV know about music? I thought they were a reality show channel No schit, I have a friend that works for MTV out in California. She was shocked that I said I haven't watched MTV in years, maybe an episode of that true life (the one where they are crackheads or whatnot), but thats it. I just told her that the reality shows ruined it, and also that I'm 33. You want a real world, don't put the kids in a multi-million dollar house with unlimited booze. Put them in some schithole place, where they are checking the couch to find beer money, that was my real world when I graduated college. It wasn't naked in some hottub.
