jets24 6 Posted November 25, 2008 I just couldn't keep watching it each week. It was interesting and all but it's just too big a commitment each week. Lost already takes up too much room in my brain. I just couldn't do it again. Just curious to see if you still watch it.
phillybear 366 Posted November 25, 2008 Absolutely. Fringe is a show that gets better and better with each episode. It's one of the very few shows that I watch every week, rather than wait for the DVD to come out. John Noble, the guy who plays the mentally deranged scientist, is a brilliant actor playing a complex role with incredible believability. Sure, there isn't much chemistry otherwise on the show, yet. But the Walter Bishop character makes the show. I look forward to the show every week. It will be around a few years, at the least. It was the same thing with Alias and Lost. It took a few episodes for each of two series to hit their stride and become the great series that each was.
kutulu 1,676 Posted November 25, 2008 I still have last weeks to watch. Double feature tonight.

phillybear 366 Posted November 25, 2008 Now I gotta watch it. Curse you. Sure, it is a commitment, but I think it's worth it. Nowadays, people give up on shows too quickly. Hell, I pity those that abandoned Lost during the filler episodes of Season 2 and horrible Season 3 early episodes. Since then, it's been a joy to watch every single minute of Lost. The pace has been incredible with reveals, plot advancement, and subplots. Dammit. January needs to get here sooner.

I actually also like the son, but I think they could have done a better job with the woman who plays the lead. She isn't really bad but she is not good either. I guess they were trying to recreate Dana Scully with her. Gilliam Anderson started out a bit stiff, but got much better over the years.

As for the lead character, yeah Anna Torv is painful at times, but hopefully she can get better... As for John Noble, he does make the show and it is always enjoyable to see what name he calls Astrid...
phillybear 366 Posted November 26, 2008 I swear, this show reminds me a lot of the X-Files, which is overstating the obvious. But you have the so-called Monster of the Week episode like last week, a stand alone episode. Then you have tonight, that is absolutely pushing the main story arc, which ia not the alien invasion and conspiracy, but the Massive Dynamic plot. Not as strong as last week, mostly because John Noble acted his ass off especially revisiting the mental hospital scenes, but still this is such a quality show, considering the crap out there. I'm ready to say this show is almost in the same class as LOST and Dexter. Charles Widmore = Nina Sharp. Obviously, not everybody is going to share my enthusiasm for Fringe, but this is the way I see it. The show is winning it's time slot for the key ad demographics with 18-49, but not doing as well in overall ratings. It's gotten some legs following House, and should get some push from faggitty American Idol, as long as this show doesn't get preempted.

phillybear 366 Posted December 4, 2008 My big problem with this last episode is the kidnapping scene. You are talking to an agent, you get road blocked by about a dozen cards, so what do you do? A. Tell the other agent: Help!!! B. Pull out your gun and defend yourself in a shootout. C. Get out of your card and run into an open space with your back to the evil guys. Duh. Even giving yourself up would have been smarter than running.

phillybear 366 Posted January 20, 2009 Nice to have Fringe and Lost on back to back nights. I'm still finding myself trying to spot The Observer in every episode in background shots. It's quite a challenge.

It's enough to melt somebody's brain. Amazing. How stuff like Fringe and LOST share airwaves with American Idol and a reality show starring Gene Simmons. TheBlade 3 Posted February 4, 2009 Tonight, when that guy first headed to the bathroom with his nosebleed, he passed a bald headed guy. I think that was The Observer. I've just gotten snared by the Fringe trap, and I've only caught the last two episodes, so I'm going to ask an obviously stupid question. Wtf is The Observer, aside from the painfully obvious answer of somebody watching everything???
