Look at Jones' stats over the last few games compared to the rest of the season. Favre isn't the only Jet who ended the season with a whimper.
p.man 7 Posted January 3, 2009 B.Favre really wasn't the problem. I know he threw a lot of picks, but I feel that a few of those picks could have been avoided if the Jets had a much better rec core. Favre had to throw into tight coverage a lot of the time because the Jets wr's don't create any seperation. The Jets wr's put no fear in the other team. The only player who could create seperation was our Te. (Keller) The Jets scored a total of 405 points. That was good for 2nd in the division and 3rd best in the AFC. An upgrade at the wr position is what the Jets really need on offense. I say they could have been 12-4 or 11-5 if they had a stud wr on the team. They need further help on defense. Giving up 356 points is not going to cut it. I know some of those points were from Favre, but they still need help on defense. I can't wait to see how the Jets handle this off season. I wish that Brett wouldve pulled a Rickey Henderson and said that he didnt even know Thomas Jones name.... keep your trap shut, Terry Jones
rolltyde1 0 Posted January 4, 2009 Guess Pennington should be benched now too. 4 INT's?? And still plenty of game to go.
wiffleball 4,790 Posted January 5, 2009 I still can't believe Mangini took the bullet for this season. Two winning records in three years and he gets the axe? How many teams in the NFL would LOVE to have those kinds of results right now? It wasn't Mangini's fault that Favre killed them down the stretch. Absolutely agree. But, with the owner already committing to Favre coming back, someone apparently had to take the bullet. Good comments in here. Definitely the post about the $20M deal with the Pack is interesting. I think Favre mishandled this thing from the git-go. And, as much as I really like the guy, the last few years have definitely changed my mind about him - and I think with most people. Not about his talent, his on field joy, none of that. But he has pushed the last button when it comes to the prima donna / attention whoare thing. As much as I love seeing the guy on the field, I was a little bummed to hear the docs give him an easy, repairable excuse for why he sucked down the stretch. Now it's potentially another 6 more months of "Will he or won't he?" - THAT part, I hate. Last year, the Jets owner had to have asked him to at least committ for 2-3 years. His comments seem to support that. But, if he comes back, I hope he does kick ass. He's undeniably fun to watch on the field. ...And apparently insufferable off of it. wiffleball 4,790 Posted January 5, 2009 I think in terms of his fans seeing a side of Brett Favre's personality that's quite a bit less than positive. There were hints of it before now of course, but as a fan you can overlook quite a bit. Fans of other teams have called him a drama queen and a primadonna, but you could chalk that up to jealousy or player hating. Had he retired after last season, I could have looked back with a much more favorable opinion of the man than I do now. I'm very jealous of those fans who's ability to ignore his shortcomings is infinite. I reached my threshold last summer. I don't know if I'm going to be able to look back on this era with quite as much fondness as I otherwise would have. Maybe a few years into retirement I'll be able to see Favre again as the lovable gunslinger who loved the game so much he'd play it for free. I think that's where he really spoiled a lot of his legacy with his fans.
