MBIII

Recommended Posts

I've seen some stuff written (not so much on this site but elsewhere) saying Marion Barber III will be a bust this year. At the same time, I see that he's falling to either the early or mid second round. At what point is he considered a value?

My second pick will be #16 overall in a PPR. If he's there, I think I have to grab him.

Felix Jones hasn't proved much. Sure he's fast and talented but, he also may be brittle. Don't forget he was out most of last year injured. I don't know if I buy the fact that he'll be able to handle as much of the load as people think.

Also consider that even if Jones steals some carries, Barber is a beast at the goal line.

I think MBIII could end up being the steal of the fantasy football year as a mid 2nd rounder.

What the opinions of the minds on this site?

I think a smart starting point when looking at Barber is to use his '06 and '07 statistics (when he was sharing carries with Julius Jones) as his baseline. Double digit tds, all of the goaline looks, plenty of fourth quarter carries as a closer, and some catches. If you can live with his numbers from those two seasons this year as his worst case scenario, than he is a no-brainer and likely represents great value at the end of the second round---especially since there is a good chance that his time share this season (if there ends up being one with Jones and/or Choice) should be much more skewed in his favor than it was when he shared with Jones.

The only problem with looking at the 2006 and 2007 stats is that they also had TO, which in 06 and the beginning of 07 was putting the fear into the opposing defenses. I think defenses will be more focused on stopping the run in Dallas this season... something to consider.

I still think he has good value, but I agree that there will be more of a focus to stop the Cowboy running game. There is no reason to double ROY, he SUCKS!

Good point.

I agree, though I'm wary that Felix is much more talented then Julius. Not saying he'll command more touches than JJ got, but Felix is gonna take more of those touches to the house, meaning less TDs for Barber. If I remember correctly Jones put up somethin like 2 and 5 TDs with Barber around, I expect Felix to finish somewhere between 7 and 10.

MBIII is a proven quantity. dont forget he was on fire before he got hurt last year. unless the Cowboys offense is completely stagnant, i see MB getting 10-15 TD's. he'll be the redzone/GL back.

now, as a Cowboys fan, Felix makes me giddy. i cant wait to see what he can do with more opportunity. this team loses a weapon in TO but has a very talented backfield. i see a lot of opps. for both MB and the Cat. anyway, it sure looks like the Cowboys are poised to be run first.

i'd like to see sets with both guys on the field.

If Felix Jones remains healthy, he will get the bulk of the touches...

Felix Jones = Chris Johnson

MBIII = Lendale White

Thats how I look at it

i dont think thats a good comparison. MBIII is much more talented and versatile than Lendale. and what makes you think that Felix will all the sudden get the "bulk" of the carries?

I meant it in the role they will be playing with their respective teams. did you see Felix play last year prior to getting hurt? he was a amazing, he averaged 9 yds a carry. although it was only 30 carries  but still 9 friggen yards a carry!! WOW

MBIII will know his role, and its not as a 20/25+ carry back. ... plus dallas wont be able to pound the ball if those WRs dont set it up. I just envision Felix wow'ing everyone and Jason Garrett trying to get him as many touches as he possibly can.

Plus, they missed the playoff last year when MBIII was the lead back (Choice only played when Barber was hurt), at least when they had JJ and MBIII the tandum worked well. and the league is moving towards RBBC, and with Choice and Jones there, I cant see them leaning on MBIII when you have playmakers with fresher legs waiting.

just my thoughts, I would MUCH rather wait on Felix Jones then spend a 2nd round pick on MBIII

I would be happy with any two of the Cowboys three RB. If injuries occur, Choice could fill in for either of the two ahead of him. He ran very well for a rookie against some quality defenses at the end of last year.

Easy, they didn't miss the playoffs because MBIII was the lead back. They missed the playoffs due to the injury of their starting QB.

I thought they missed the playoffs because the Eagles b*tch slapped them in the season finale?! :music_guitarred:
