fixedrate 0 Posted August 13, 2009 Just wondering if people playing in more than one league if you are targeting the same players in each draft or are you looking at building differant teams with differant players....whats the argument for both?
mrgymrat 0 Posted August 13, 2009 I think a lot of it has to do with what slot you're drafting from. Depending on your spot, there are just certain who want fall to you. Do I have preferences of who I draft. Most definitely. But it mostly falls on your slot, IMO.
TexansWinSB 0 Posted August 13, 2009 usually, ill try to draft players that are on my main money, keeper league so i have less to keep track of and usually makes all my leagues more fun
49ers_suck 0 Posted August 13, 2009 doin 3 money league this yr and thats it! i'll let the draft come to me. and i'll prolly end up with some of the same guys. 3 leagues is my max though. when you start getting contradicting crap going it takes some of the fun away, imo. shredhead 21 Posted August 13, 2009 Yes and No. I am in 3 different leagues, and they are all unique as far as scoring rules and other owner tendencies. I obviously have certain players that I like and think they will out perform their draft spots, so some of those guys may end up on multiple teams, but I won't go out of my way to make that happen. I mostly go best player available, and I have 3 different ranking sheets made up for the 3 different scoring systems. For example, my oldest league is still extremely old school, 12 teams, basically it is a TD only league. We do get bonus points for milestones, (100 yds passing/300 yds passing) This league is still one where you want to get RB's early and often. I'd guess at least 1 or 2 owners will draft RB/RB/RB to start. With only 4 point passing TD's, it's not as crucial to get a Brees or Brady, you can definitely do just as well with a Shaub or Palmer later. WR's are way wishy washy in this league, although depending on my draft position, I may go for one of the big 4 in the late first/early 2nd. Goal Line backs are huge in this league. Guys like Brandon Jacobs before he got the starting gig were money. I will be looking to grab guys like LeRon McLain and Peyton Hillis late in this draft. My second league is more standard scoring, so I will try to get a more balanced team, although it still favors RBs over WRs a little, and with only 2 starting WR's and no PPR, starting a draft WR/WR is not wise. QB's still score 4 in this league, so you don't need a top one, but you don't want QB12 as your starter either because you do get 1 point for every 50 passing. The defensive scoring seems to be out of proportion with the rest of the players, so getting a top one early can pay huge dividends. The problem is the top defenses change a lot year to year, so you have to pick the right ones. Third league is 6 points for all TD's, and only 1 RB and 1 WR with 2 flex. Getting a top QB is much more important, so I will get one early. with so much flexibility (1-3, 2-2, 3-1) with RB/WR starting requirements, you can truly go best player available and not worry if you miss on a WR2, I usually only have 2 WR's on my roster in this league, and tend to be a runningback ######. The year I went WR heavy didn't work out so well even though my top 3 were really good. I know that is way more than you asked, but that's what I think. I'm not against having the same guys on multiple teams, but I don't go out of my way to make it that way either. Also, as someone said above, draft position would also have a lot to do with getting the same players, especially in the early rounds.
skittles 0 Posted August 13, 2009 This is the reason I try to usually play in just 1 league. I get a sense of attachment with my players, and its that attachment and loyalty is one of the things I really enjoy about fantasy football. You play in 8 or 10 leagues and you've got players all over the place, on your team, on your opponent's team, and it just starts to lose its lustre a bit to me. jdon 28 Posted August 13, 2009 I never plan to grab the same guys but I find that I end up with a lot of the same guys... especially late round picks... this is great when you take stokely and he comes out with 1000 yds (2005 or whatever), not so great the three years since when I took devery henderson, meachem, and other bums consistently... the year gore came out of nowhere I had him in every league... I imagine I will have burleson in a lot of leagues this year... jdon
Ray_T 766 Posted August 13, 2009 I try not to have the same players. but if I am drafting, I also want the best possible player. so if the player I think is the best is at the top of the list I am not going to take someone else just because I have him in another league. (that's what trades are for)
madd futher mucker 36 Posted August 14, 2009 I don't TRY to draft the same players, but in following my board in picking players both for my re-draft and my auction leagues, there tends to be amazing similarity in some years just because I have certain players rated higher than their ADP and others rated significantly lower, while my leaguemates tend to let ADP influence their selections more than I do. During the season is where I really tend to more duplication, as I tend to get "high" on certain players and try to trade for or pick them off waivers in both leagues and even in my two deep keeper leagues. My dynasty league is the "different" one because I took over an existing team and don't really have players I'm very comfortable with. It will likely be harder than hell to make similar in-season trades because I'm not going to be able to trade from a position of overall strength.
RLLD 4,275 Posted August 15, 2009 In the mid 90's I figured out that if I used a different strategy across leagues I woull enhance my chances of winning one or two. If used the same approach in each, and got it wrong, or got slammed by injuries I was cooked across the board. So, I started using varying strategies across the leagues. The down side is that in some of those leagues my teams will clearly be out manned and there is no point, in others I will own, and in the end I will come out ahead in the money. The leagues that I recognize as being "lost" tend to get pissed when I dont put as much time into them to better my team, but its a matter of economics and I am trying to score some coin to make sure I am in the black. So I will often turn my attention toward the leagues where the strategy is working, and mostly ignore the ones were it isnt.
Dice_Dominator 0 Posted August 15, 2009 Take the best player available, but try to take different players so you are not stuck with 5 teams that lose a stud RB or Qb for the season if he goes down and you own him in all teams.
